Tranquil setting in NC mountains

Guest: Shay (Fort Mill, SC)
Date of Stay: 10/21/11 Review Submitted: 11/11/11

Putting around the small lake in the canoe at dusk was a great ending to the day! This is the place to do as much, or as little as you like! A peaceful & serene location, with great hikes & waterfalls all around the area. Simple but comfortable home. Great get-away with our family! Loved Hobnob Restaurant (in Brevard), if you like hand-thrown pottery, you'll love Mud-Dauber's Potteryl! (on the right, going into town) t

Didn't want to leave!!!!

Date of Stay: 10/12/11 Review Submitted: 10/18/11

Our family of 5 adults and an (almost) 2 yr old stayed here 10/12 - 10/16. This is the 8th vacation house that I've stayed in (Tn, NC, Ca, Fl). This house is without a doubt the most comfortable, clean, well furnished house of all. The location was beautiful and convenient - easy to get to Brevard, to the Appalachian Trail, to Sliding Rock...... The property was just as described - except that words nor picures do the beauty of the fall colors around the lake justice. There were deer that grazed through the yard everyday. We looked and looked for a white squirrel, but only saw regular ole squirrels......maybe next time. The gas fireplace was a wonderful way to knock the chill off in the glass sunroom - it was very comfortable sitting and enjoying the surroundings. The gates on the porch helped to make us comfortable with the 2 yr old - oh - and we had fresh fish for dinner our first night there - it was delicious!!!! I absolutely would love to stay at Paula's Mountain Retreat again and would recommend for anyone/any ages - unless you can't climb stairs at all. We all had a great time - our only complaint was that we just didn't stay long enough!!!! Thank you for providing such a nice rental - one that has character and comfort!!!!

Owner response:Thanks so much for your kind words! I'm so glad you had a great time. Please come back soon.

Lovely home!

We stayed at Paula's house over the Columbus Day weekend and had a great time! The house is lovely and it was so relaxing to wake up to the view of the lake. We had fun fishing in the lake (we did catch and release), and met some of the neighbors who were very nice! The home was well appointed and had everything we needed to cook our meals. My only negative feedback is that the pillows were a bit flat, not a big deal, but we will bring our own pillows next time.

Wonderful and Relaxing Respite

What a lovely house in the woods! It is welcoming and comfortable, with a great view of the lake which is only steps away. The drive through Sherwood Forest (where we saw white squirrels) leads to a very private get-away; and a short scenic drive into the charming town of Brevard leads to many good restaurants and craft and antique shops which are delightful. Brevard College and The Music Center are also most interesting to explore. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit there.

Owner response:Thank you, Faye. I'm so glad you had such a great time there.

Absolutely Beautiful Home nestled in Sherwood Forest

Guest: Martha (Raleigh, NC)
Date of Stay: 09/12/11 Review Submitted: 09/15/11

Our stay at this property was absolutely wonderful. It is a very quiet and peaceful place to visit. The home is very clean and well maintained. The description listed on the internet is very accurate regarding the location. The photos accurately reflected the appearance and beauty of the property. The owner was extremely helpful with all questions regarding the rental property. We would recommend this property to friends and relatives and also hope to be able to visit again in the future. There are many beautiful sights nearby. The restaurants in Brevard were wonderful. Recommend Marco Trattoria (Italian Restuarant), the meals were wonderful. Also enjoyed shopping at Ingles Grocery Store.

Owner response:Thank you, Martha! I'm so glad you could enjoy it as much as we do! Paula

Great location...

Date of Stay: 07/23/11 Review Submitted: 09/14/11

My husband and two kids twelve and thirteen enjoyed the many activities on and off the grounds. My son truly enjoys fishing that is part of the reason we selected a lake house. There are 5 lakes in the development and we hit each one catching fish at almost every cast. Needless to say, the kids every morning were out before we journeyed out for our zip lining, looking for waterfalls, and the fish hatchery in Pigsah to experience fly fishing for trout. As I said my kids love to fish. Everything was conveniently located by which all took less than an hour to reach. Zip lining being the furthest at Earthshine in Toxaway, NC. What a fun family memory and the guides have great personallities making it exciting. White squirles at Brevard College were fun to find and an afternoon of shopping the downtown shops. We were exhausted when we made it back to the house and it was nice to have a house with all the amenities such as the comforts of home. The pictures were just as it looked - beautiful! The beds were comfy. We made many memories. The downstair basement and one bedroom, less a bathroom, was cold in the summer when we were there July 24-30, 2011. There was a furnace but we weren't using that bedroom but it was nice doing laundry in a cool area. We let the kids pick what bedroom they wanted and since they both were suites with bathrooms they were equally nice. The only real difference is the size of the vanity in one bathroom was a little smaller, the one not pictured, and one had a walk in closet. We stood a week and we really only used the drawers and our suitcases. We were super casual and my doing a small load every other day. we didn't even have a real need for all the clothes we brought. I tend to always over pack. The canoe for our use left on the dock was sweet as my son and I would journey out to fish just after dinner. We had about ten bats flying over us just as it was approaching dark and lightning bugs as we headed back up to the house. Our dog enjoyed the walks, I however did not want to be outside when it did get dark as you couldn't see your hand in front of your face. And you could hear all kinds of night creatures. So at night we would curl up and watch a movie and have some hot cocoa. We truly were exhausted from our daily adventure. Thank you for sharing your home with us city folks from Florida. We love North Carolina and plan to return as my kids go to camp in Tennessee every summer. Sights we don't see in FL.

Owner response:Denise, thank you for taking the time to write such a nice review! Paula

Good Times at the Lake

Guest: Yvette (Maryland)
Date of Stay: 07/31/10 Review Submitted: 09/07/10

My family and I had a great time at Paul's lake front house. There was a lot to do for everyone. Finding and playing in the waterfalls was the best. No wonder the area is called "land of the waterfalls" because there were so many to find. We went fishing, hiking, white water rafting( in TN) and swimming. It was very adventurous especially at night... The house has a great view of the best lake in Sherwood Forest and was equipped with all that was needed to make a great vacation. The shopping was awesome also. We will definitely return soon. Yvette

This is the most beautiful, relaxing place to enjoy a vacation with your family!! The lake is beautiful, canoeing is fun, we saw deer in the yard every day. We saw waterfalls in Pisgah Nat'l Forest and DuPont Forest and visited the Biltmore Estates which was decorated for Christmas. For native South Floridians, it was cold in the mornings but then we had cloudless, bright blue skies and it felt nice and warm. Brevard is a nice little town and so is Hendersonville nearby. Hope to come back in a summer or two to enjoy swimming and cooking out in the screened patio(too cold this time of year to enjoy). This is a must for being in the mountains and relaxing and enjoying the scenery. Everyone in Brevard is so nice. This is the place you want to be!!

Enjoyed staying at the house and watching the lake activity from the screened in porch. Teenagers liked the variety of activities in the area including fly fishing and kayaking. Everyone we met was very friendly and Brevard had everything we needed to have a wonderful family vacation.

Listing description was spot on. Property was very clean and well maintained. Owner made arrangements easy and straight forward. Would recomend property. House is in development with large, secluded, wooded lots. Secluded but not isolated. House is on one of three small lakes with small private dock perfect for swimming, canoeing, reading or having drink. Small golf course two minutes away in development. We no longer play, but looks like nice little 9 hole par three. Tons of hiking in and outside development. My wife jogged every morning with our dog. Dupont state forest is literally 10 minutes away with great moderate to difficult hiking. Exceptionallly beautiful waterfalls. "Last of the Mohegans" waterfall scenes filmed here. Town of Brevard is seven miles away down scenic mountain road. Lots of restaurants, shops and friendly people. We liked Jordon Street Cafe and Hob Nob. Steve Martin is suppose to have a place in town and supposedly can be seen out and about.

We wanted to thank you for sharing your wonderful moutain home with us for a week. We had such a great time. Your home suited us perfectly with the open floor plan and screened-in porch. The view of the lake from your house is so beautiful and peaceful. We watched for the longest time a young buck frolic back & forth in the water along the lake's edge. This was the quietest place we have ever stayed! Brevard has so much to offer and nearby DuPont State Forest and its waterfalls was so beautiful. We hiked every day in DuPont and in Sherwood Forest which has so many trails. Our two "girls" were in dog heaven! We hope to return again and truly relax.

We had never before rented a property using the Internet, but we wanted to try something other than hotels during our stay in North Carolina. We were so happy with this experience. Everything went so smoothly. Not only were the owners helpful and informative, but the house itself is spectacular - spacious, tastefully decorated, well-maintained, very clean, beautiful views. There is so much to do in and around Brevard, but it was hard to make ourselves leave our "nest" every day! There are about a dozen stairs to navigate to get into the main part of the house; my 75-year-old mother was a little slow on them, but everything is sturdy, there are lots of rails, and she did fine. She wouldn't have missed her morning commune with the deer for anything! We can't wait to get back.

Beautifully appointed cabin on a lake with a spectacular view every day. Great hiking all around Sherwood Forest and we almost never saw another car so it was also very private. Our dogs loved the hiking and the weather was so wonderfully cool but the fireplace really warmed us up in the chilly mornings as we had our breakfast. Not to miss if you go is the town of Brevard with wonderful restaurants and shopping and do go to the Dupont Forest and hike to the falls, they were gorgous as our pictures we took can attest to. Can't wait to return!

Owner response:Luci and Ron, I'm so glad you enjoyed the house and the area. Please come back when you can! Paula

We rented your beautiful home Labor Day for 2 weeks. It was magical...I cannot tell you how happy we were looking out at the lake and seeing deer each morning and evening. Our pet yorkie..loved sitting out on the deck and watched all the birds, deer with amazement. What I loved most about the cabin was that it was the only house on the road. Letting Beemer walk without a chain and sitting on the dock with him was great. We would recommend this house to everyone that wanted truly to be in Sherwood Forrest. Being just the two of us we each took a bathroom and the masterbath, sink was a lovely touch. We loved it so much that we ate in most of the nights, and just loved the view from both front rooms. Each of the leather couches were perfect for napping and watching tv. We used the canoe and fished from the dock..caught alot of beautiful fish..which we threw back in of course...but the "catching is the fun part". I would not hesitate to return to paradise...Thank you for having such a lovely house to rent. Ronni & Barry. 8/29/08 = 9/13/08.

We just returned from a wonderful week with our family at the Lakeside Mountain Retreat - what a great place for a family vacation. The house sits right in the middle of the forest on a beautiful mountain lake where we enjoyed canoeing or just sitting on the dock taking in the sunsets and mountain view. The dining room is all glass and faces the lake and my favorite time of the day was to sit there early in the morning and watch the wildlife who came through the yard especially the deer. There was so much to do - from hiking the waterfalls in Dupont Forest, horseback riding, white water rafting, shopping in Brevard and the nearby pottery shops to everyone’s favorite, the hot air balloon ride - the view over the mountains at dawn was spectacular! The golf course on the property was great and never crowded - some days it was like we were the only ones on the course and everyone was so friendly. Biltmore Estates is a must if you are in the area! It made the vacation even better that we were able to bring our dog. He thoroughly enjoyed the mountain weather and hiking the trails. We had a wonderful time and would highly recommend this rental to everyone.

Peaceful, serene, cozy, and spacious. This lakefront cottage was a great retreat. We utilized the community hiking on the well marked and well cared for trails. We played golf on the well maintained par 3 course -- and it was nice to be able to walk the course! We sat on the dock to enjoy a glass of wine and watch the sunset. We woke to deer in the front yard, beautiful birds chirping, and squirrels running around. Being at the cottage made us at peace with nature. It was great to be able to enjoy all of this and have our four legged friend there with us too! The town of Brevard was great too...cute shops and nice restaurants. Not too far from the airport either. We had a wonderful time!

We stayed for one week in this cottage with our daughter (12) and my parents who were visiting from England. The climate in June was perfect for outdoor activity, just when Raleigh was getting far too hot. The cottage was clean, with good accommodation - lovely screened porch overlooking the lake! The canoe was fun, and the lake very peaceful and quiet - and the fish will come to the shore to be fed ;-) The location is great - very quiet neighbourhood with a pool and par 3 golf course that we made good use of - both were lightly used when we were there. Brevard, about 15 mins drive, is a fabulous little town with wonderful restaurants & pavement cafes. We wanted to spend the whole summer there!

My family, dogs and I really enjoyed our time at your cottage. We loved the neighborhood because there as so much to do right there and we still felt like we were in the middle of a forest all at the same time. My family all walked trails right there in the neighborhood, fished and canoed on the lake right in front of the house, golfed, and enjoyed swimming in the pool. We did venture out to DuPont and Pisgah Forests which were beautiful and only a few minutes drive away. The waterfalls are amazing. We’ll be back next summer – save our spot!

I stayed at the Lakefront Mountain Retreat in July. WOW is all I can say! The pictures looked nice from the website but I could not believe how beautiful it was as I came around the bend and saw the huge lake view right in front of the house. The house has to be 200 feet on the water. The front windows are all glass and face the lake and there is a large deck outside with seating. I never wanted to leave! It was my favorite time of the summer. Thanks for sharing!!!
