Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2005
I enjoy spending time outdoors with my family, especially at our cabin (Crescent Lake Cabin!) For example, in the summer we hike, float in the creek, mountain bike, and fish. In the winter, we ski and sled in the driveway. Professionally, I'm a chemist and a software designer and tester.
Why the Owner Chose Crescent Lake
As a kid, my family had a cabin. As a parent, I wanted to give the same to my children. They have grown up visiting the cabin. Crescent Lake Cabin is convenient to us; it is about 1 hour and 15 minutes from where we live in Bend (and the same distance from Eugene!). Also, We enjoy the seclusion of 3.5 acres, as well as being on Crescent Creek. The natural setting is also gorgeous, with the creek, meadows with butterflies, and pine trees.
The Unique Benefits of this Cabin
In the summer, we enjoy spending time at the dock on the creek, and playing with the kids in the creek. We usually don't go to the lake because the creek is so fun and convenient! In the winter, we enjoy walking out the door and cross-country skiing.

We stayed at the cabin for a week with the goal of snowmobiling in the Crescent Lake area, the snow conditions were marginal but we had a great week. The cabin is located on a beautiful and private piece of property. There is plenty of parking for pickups, trailers, etc. and room for the dogs to run and have fun. The cabin is exactly how the owner described it - rustic, cozy and very comfortable. I appreciate the owner having a pre-rental phone call. We found the cabin comfortable, well stocked, cozy and the views out to the creek were great. The area is very accessible and there are plenty of roads and forest service roads to go on long walks with the dogs. Thank you for sharing your home.

Family from north and south meet in the middle at this Crescent Lake Cabin. We had a wonderful time! We x-country skied, built an igloo, walked the neighborhood, played games. The kitchen was quite efficient and we pulled off a Thanksgiving feast without a hitch. The wood stove put out some serious heat; we were quite toasty! Thanks for all the kindling. The new carpeting looked and felt great as we spent some time laying in front of the fire, playing with the baby. It should be mentioned that the stairs to the loft are not for everyone. The risers are higher than most. All in all we appreciated how it felt like a cabin with the wood interior and the simple furnishings; not all modernized like a second house. And we love the fact that dogs are welcome. They had a great time on the walks and fetching sticks and dipping in the cold creek. Thank you, looking forward to a summer visit!

What a great place to get away to so that I could recharge my batteries! The cabin is clean and has all the basic necessities such as dishes, microwave, stove/oven, warm water, and kitchen utensils. It has its own eclectic charm, and still lets you feel like you are roughing it a bit but while being warm and comfy. The owner is easy to work with, provides detailed instructions and lots of information about the surrounding area. The creek is beautiful, and the little dock is great to fish off of or just to sit on and enjoy some morning coffee. The back patio table is also a great place to sit and relax, and there is a nice umbrella and a good grill. The loft king bed was a nice firm bed, and the wood stove kept the cabin warm all night. I will definitely be staying here again!

Just completed a 5 day family vacation at this cabin. What an incredible place for our family and dogs. The property is beautiful and the home fit all of our needs. We did not go without anything! The fishing dock, fire-pit, and hiking trails were a big hit! We moored our boats at Crescent Lake and the drive was only 5 minutes, tops! We hope this property is available next year when we start planning our Summer Vacations. Mark, the owner, was a pleasure to work with and was always available for any questions at any time.

Spent a weekend with friends and their kids. Terrific experience, lots of room in the cabin as well as the surrounding areas. Did not manage to get into the water... it was a bit cold but that did not prevent the children from having a ball. Conveniently located near Bend (where we live) I would say this is a place we would return time and again. Thank you.

The A-frame was very comfortable. We enjoyed the acreage so our dog could run safely. The creek was wonderful, even caught a few fish. The location was great as we fished 6 days in a row, 5 days at Cresent and 1 day at Diamond. A great place to relax!!

We rent vacation homes very frequently via VRBO and have always been satisfied. This is the first time we have written a negative comment as this property was a major disappointment. First, the good things: Nice private creek with a nice new deck, comfortable king size bed, nice hot shower, good heating system and a nice new deck at the cabin. Unfortunately, there were many things we didn't like: Over all it is quite apparent the owner shows a lack of interest in keeping his cabin clean and clear of clutter for his guests and a lack of interest maintaining his cabin (with the exception of the decks). The welcome binder is not organized. It's just a bunch of loose hand written pieces of paper with scratch outs and is very difficult to read. It just makes a bad first impression. The carpet is disgusting. The "shag" carpet must be 40 years old. How gross is that!!? It's filthy. This carpet has to go, it's not even funny! The front door screen needs repair. There is a hole in the wall in the entry hallway. There are broken tiles on the bathroom floor. The carpet in the downstairs bedroom and the tiles in the hallway do not connect and the concrete floor is showing. Kitchenware is ancient and gross. There are kitchen drawers full of past dated canned food (as old as 2004) and they should be thrown away. The bathroom towels are basically old frayed rags with holes and stains (the kind you would use for cleaning when you are done using them as towels). Although the king size bed was comfortable, the top sheet was for a double bed (it doesn't quite cover a king size...). ALL closets and drawers where you would normally unpack during your stay were full of junk so you have to live out of your suitcase. The advertised 'Gas/Electric BBQ grill" was not working as the gas tank was empty. The grill is super gross so even if there were gas you couldn't use it anyway. The surface of the table on the deck is completely rusted. Instructions for the DVD/stereo system are written on a piece of painter's blue tape and are completely faded so you can't read them at all. The living room had junk just laying around (ex: an old single flip flop just laying there near the board games). Overall, the place is dirty and this owner has the audacity to charge a non refundable cleaning deposit!! It was very expensive for what is offered. The whole cabin needs updating. It seems this owner is relying on his creek to justify his high daily rate. We were extremely disappointed.
Owner response:Nathalie- I'm sorry you were disappointed with my home and that it wasn't a good fit for your needs. For me (and other guests) it is welcoming, clean, and relaxing. I realize that I never spoke with you about the cabin before you booked it to make sure it was a good fit, as I have done with other guests. This was my fault. I would have explained that it is a rustic getaway, meaning some things are outdated. Although they are clean, the dishes and silverware don’t all match. (I went to a "cabin" once in California that had marble tiles in the shower and a modern, stainless-steel kitchen; my vintage avocado-green counter-tops could never complete!) Thanks too for pointing out some areas of improvement. There is now a new table on the deck, new towels, a clean grill, an extra propane tank, another dresser, cleared kitchen drawers, and a revised welcome book. The linens have been moved so there is now plenty of room in the dresser. Although some people like the retro shag carpet, it will be replaced this fall. (It is vacuumed for each guest and shampooed annually, but I can see how it could appear dirty.) Other repairs will also be done in the fall. [Update Oct 30, 2011: The carpet has been replaced, and the tile repaired] I hope that you were still able to enjoy most of your stay at my home, and relax and enjoy the deck, the creek, and the seclusion.

This cabin is a great place to get away from it all and recharge the batteries. It's quiet and the creek is gorgeous. It exceeded our expectations. It was very clean. The owner was great to deal with and answered emails promptly and was very helpful and answered any questions we had. I would highly recommend this to anyone. Was a little slice of paradise. Owner response:Mary - I am glad you had such great time at the cabin and in the creek. It is "a little slice of paradise" to me too!

My husband and I stayed here for almost a month and we couldn't have been happier. The cabin was comfortable and had everything we needed. The property that this cabin sits on is incredible. Our dogs enjoyed daily swims in the creek and we had fun launching our Kayak from the dock. The weather was in the low 70s every day and the nights were crisp and cool (perfect for bonfires in the fire pit). Mark was very accommodating and friendly. Our long trek from Kansas was definitely worth is and we will never forget our summer spent at this cabin!

After meeting up with a long-time friend who resides on the Oregon coast, we headed inland in search of peace and quiet and some warmer weather. We were not disappointed. The very private cabin is situated in a beautiful conifer forest with direct access and views of a swiftly moving creek. The cabin is comfortable and cozy and the perfect place to get away from it all. We spent mornings and evenings enojying meals on the deck, and explored several of the nearby attractions during the days. Most memorable were an afternoon at Symax Beach on Crescent Lake, a lovely hike ending with spectacular views of Salt Creek Falls, and a day of canoeing on Hosmer Lake (wow!!!). While the daytime temperatures were in the Mid-70's throughout our stay, we enjoyed some dramatic weather, including a brief thunder storm during out visit to Odell Lake. It was truly a memorable vacation.
