"FALCON'S NEST" IS A CUSTOM BUILT LOG CABIN Sitting at 3400' elevation in beautiful Heartwood Mountaintop Community. Panoramic views of Watauga Lake and the Iron Mountain Range can be viewed from the covered porch or beside the massive stone fireplace in the living room. Heartwood is centrally located between Boone, NC and Elizabethton, TN (just a 40 minute drive either direction) so all of your vacation needs can be met during all 4 seasons.
Skiing, Tubing, and Ice Skating available in Blowing Rock and Banner Elk (just 45 minutes away) or visit Watauga Lake (only 20 minutes away) for Jet Skiing, Pontoon Boat Rentals, Swimming or Fishing. Many trout streams abound in this area for the avid fly fisherman. Abingdon, VA is well known for the Barter Theater and the Virginia Creeper Bike Trail is a "must do" via Damascus or Abingdon.
Of course, don't forget that Tweetsie Railroad Amusement Park is in Blowing Rock for a day of wild west family fun and a ride on an authentic steam locomotive passenger train. Antique shops are readily available for many pleasant hours of browsing for that perfect gift or your home decor.
This cabin is ideal for 1 or 2 families with 2 Master suites upstairs and a large bedroom with full bath downstairs. A loft above the great room provides additional sleeping quarters. Beautifully decorated with all linens provided.

Year Purchased: 2005
My wife Mary and I decided to move up to the mountains of western NC/TN from The eastern coastal area of Wilmington NC in the summer of 2004. Our two children were just starting school and we wanted to be in a smaller town where we could enjoy excellent schools, outdoor activities, college town atomshpere, fine restaurants and 4 true seasons. Consequently, we packed up our bags and moved our family to Boone and now live just off the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway.
Why the Owner Chose Watauga Lake
Although we love the mountains and our new home in Boone it wasn't long before we began to miss the water and boating activities we took for granted for so many years. We decided to build a vacational rental that not only we could enjoy but one we could share with others. We found the perfect place in the peaceful and beautiful Heartwood Community overlooking Watauga Lake. Even tough it is only a 45 minute drive from our house in Boone it is truly a destination for a lifetime of vacations just out our doorsteps. People love coming to the "mountaintop".
The Unique Benefits of this Cabin
The Falcons Nest, as it is affectionately referred to is a very comfortable cabin that can accomodate the honeymoon couple as well as a large family reunion. The log cabin was constructed from the trees off the property and borders The Cherokee National Forest. The large wrap around covered porch provides shelter from the weather regardless of the wind direction and is lined with rocking chairs to take in the views and waste away the day. The outdoor hotub and ping pong table are a hit with the kids and adults alike. Please come, sit awhile and enjoy the peaceful beauty of Heartwood.
