Located at 3000 feet above sea level, on the southernmost extension of the Blue Ridge Mountains within one half mile of the intersection of Gilmer, Pickens and Dawson county, the design, construction and furnishing of both Sassafras Place and Monument Place was inspired by our first vacation rental, Paramount Place.
Perched on the top of Sassafras Mountain, Sassafras Place provides 4300 square feet of finished space, 1800 square feet of covered deck and 800 square feet of covered terrace level patio. Sassafras Place is an absolutely gorgeous, custom, executive home on five acres. From this ridgeline, you can see over 70 miles to the Northeast, looking over the top of Amicalola Falls and into the Chattahoochee National Forest beyond it.
Completed in September of 2007, Sassafras Place is ideal for three to five families, extended families, large reunion gatherings, or a couple that likes a lot of space. Perfect for a small wedding, wedding reception, honeymoon, or all three! With five sleeping areas on the perimeter of three large, common areas on three different levels, Sassafras Place has been designed to accommodate a large group, while still providing privacy to couples and individuals. Literally 600 yards away and around the corner from Monument Place, this home allows us to serve up to 35 overnight guests at once when combined with Monument Place. Use both homes for a corporate outing or a mountain wedding!
Sassafras Place is very secluded and private, yet only five miles from Amicalola Falls State Park, 12 miles from Jasper, and 14 miles from Ellijay. The Ellijay town square has antique shops, art galleries, specialty shops, and a variety of interesting eateries. Ellijay is also the apple capital of the North Georgia Mountains and has an Apple Festival every fall. Our home also convenient for day trips to the the popular mountain communities of Blue Ridge, Helen and Dahlonega,the site of the first North American gold rush and wine vineyards.
Sassafras Place is conveniently close to prime mountain bike trails, hiking trails, trout fishing on the Amicalola River, Burt's Pumpkin Farm, whitewater rafting and canoeing on the Cartecay and Toccoa rivers, Amicalola Falls, and the Appalachian Trail. Sassafras Place is a great mountain getaway with over 7300 square feet under roof on three levels. It has five bedrooms, five and a half baths, with a wraparound deck to take full advantage of the magnificent mountain view. 52 windows, 10 large sliding doors and one set of french doors provide panoramic views from every room.
The great room has 28-foot ceilings in white pine with three stories of windows, a stacked stone fireplace, and a satellite-fed full home theater set up. Watch the football game, the fire, and the mountains from the leather couches. Enjoy the Dolby 5.1 surround sound system powered by a 100-watt per channel Onkyo Digital receiver and DVD player on the large flat screen HDTV, mounted above the woodburning fireplace. All rooms have satellite TV with Combo DVD/VCR. You will find a dining room and a large, well-designed, fully-equipped kitchen and breakfast bar with upgraded appliances, hickory cabinets and six inch hickory plank floors. The Master down has a king-size bed with a garden whirlpool tub and all bathrooms have custom tile floors and showers. Kitchen and vanity countertops are granite. Sliding doors off of the great room open up to unbelievably large, covered deck, with two sets of teak tables and chairs and a very large hot tub designed for eight.

Awesome house, it had everything we needed. We even caught a glimpse of the neighborhood bear and that was very exciting. Views were spectacular and the cool temperatures were very relaxing, a great break from the extreme heat we had all been experiencing at home. Frank and his housekeeper were great to work with. Our only issue was the drive required to do anything. Previous vacation homes we had selected always had activities on property so that was an adjustment for us. The winding mountain drives were beautiful and there were plenty of things to do (hiking, waterfall hunting/viewing, tubing, kayaking, gem mining) but it was a little hard for find activities that included things for toddlers. Out family would consider returning to this house again especially since we are more familiar with the area.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers.

This home is almost 7500 square feet under air. It's great for romance packages, girls chill out days or whatever. The owner was outstanding with everything. The view was magnificent, the house was truly breathe taking. The brochure doesn't give this home it's proper justice. You never have to leave this home other than the exception of buying groceries. Other than that you're pretty close to heaven on earth. My husband and I will definitely use this cabin again without a doubt. They told us there were bears, however we were blessed not to see any of them. Me being an African American, I was totally afraid to go up into the mountains because it's puts me completely out of my realm. However the Natives of Georgia treated this old Florida girl a thing or two on southern hospitality. This place was truly what people meant by saying a home away from home. This home had me thinking of retirement the minute I stepped into it. Thanks Frank for a glorious week and I'm sure we'll see each other again soon.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers.

We spent our first Family Christmas away from home at Sassafras this year. We had a dozen family members from 3yr to 84 yr old, and everything went great. Easy access and master suite on main level made it good for the great grandparents. House is so spacious we never felt like we were on top of each other. Everybody had their own space, yet there are multiple areas to group (small or together). Can you believe we were all able to sit down together [comfortably, I might add] at the beautiful dining table for Christmas dinner. Owner was super helpful.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

Our first comment from guests in our new home.... Frank, WOW! Is about all I can say. Our stay at Sassafras Place was absolutely wonderful. The view, the accomodations, everything was great. The home was emaculate and met all of my expectations! We wished we could have stayed longer. I believe the consensus from everyone was, "Same time next year!". This note is a day or two late because I had to fly right back out of town Monday morning.
