We have nothing but good things to say about our stay in this lovely home. We loved the clean lines and classy decor of this very comfortable home. From the hard wood floors to the beautiful stone work in the bathrooms, the decor fits the northwest settting perfectly without being cluttered or fussy. The cabin was very clean and the kitchen well appointed. There was even an expresso maker and coffee grinder ! As noted in other reviews, the linens and towels were top rate and we all loved the comfortable beds. We are used to much more primitive conditions in island cabins so this was more like staying at a quality resort. The owner was very communicative and helpful as well. This is our 8th year at Decatur Northwest and this was one of the nicest places we have visited. The island iteslf has limitless things to do. My kids played tennis, went fishing and hiking, played basketball and soccer and went exploring. We played countless board games and allowed the kids to use the available WiFi just to get their homework done. Other than that we were "unplugged" so we could enjoy this beautiful and relaxing place !

We left grey skies in Seattle, and found beautiful sunny weather and absolute tranquility at Decatur Northwest. The house was filled with charm, immaculately clean, and it had all the comforts of home. By day, we enjoyed both the nearby lake and ocean beach. The children in our group were captivated by the community farm animals which included sheep, chickens, and a playful goat named Domino. The sunsets and majestic evening views from the wrap around deck were simply amazing! At night, we retreated indoors to a warm fire in the comfortable living room. This is a spectacular property that I can highly recommend.

We escaped a rainy weather forecast for Seattle and found the perfect get a way for us (parents with boys age 11,9 and 3 and friends from Germany, parents with boy age 9). Not only was the weather so much better than on the mainland, the cabin was very well equipped as mentioned by the other guests. I only want to add that the owners are sharing an amazing supply of board games, building toys, books and music. Don't even think of bringing your own!!!The island is such a safe place. Where do you find a house which doesn't have to be locked by a key? We hiked, explored the island (our kids were fascinated by the old cars and boats left to themselves), visited the pirate ship, went rowing, fishing, beach combing, geocaching, playing tennis, basketball, horseshoe.... Our meals were complimented by fresh herbs from the community garden (chives, parsley, mint and sage). The easter egg hunt which was organized by the always friendly and so helpful caretaker Kathy was a special highlight for our kids. We will be back. That's for sure!!!!

Perfect! We stayed in this house for a week last summer (2008). We often rent vacation homes through VRBO and I can say that this was the best VRBO rental experience we have ever had. We stayed with another family and young kids. First, Decatur Northwest is an amazing place for children. There are no cars, so parents can let their children run free without worry. There's so many activities with tennis, shell collecting, visiting the barn animals etc. The house is beautiful. Very clean, uncluttered, almost like a suite in a 5 star hotel. The bed linens were so comfortable that we asked the owners where they bought them and plan to get the same for our home. The views are spectacular. The caretaker of the community is so helpful and everyone we met was very friendly. I give this my highest recommendation.

My family and I (two young kids included) have stayed at this lovely cabin several times. It is very comfortable, with a master bedroom downstairs and 2 bedrooms for kids upstairs, able to accommodate 5 kids in the beds, plus quite a few more on the floor, as kids love to do. The cabin is in the woods with a gorgeous view of the water. The kids run wild around the cabin, as the spouse and I relax on the wood deck. With no cars and very few people, the worries for their safety are minimal. The kitchen is fully equipped and capable of producing gourmet meals (now if only my cooking matched the potential of the kitchen). The decor is comfortably rustic with surprising touches of luxury in the bedding, towels, espresso maker, etc. Fun hiking for all levels, beach combing, a community garden, tennis courts, a pond with rowboats available and swimming for those able to handle the chill. The pond is also the home of the legendary Decatur Sea Monster (some say a myth, but who knows!) A friendly and responsive on-island manager. Wildlife. Boating. And most of all, enjoying the sound of quiet woods. This is the quintessential "cabin in the woods". Without having to rough it.

Decatur is a truly magical place in the incomparable San Juan Islands and this cabin is just terrific. Comfortable and roomy but with a great cozy feel. My daughter and I had a quiet winter weekend there that was incredibly peaceful and beautiful. In the summer there is so much to do and kids can really run free. Not to be missed.

This may be one of the most unique and charming places I've ever been. Decatur's solitude combined with it's quiet combination of gentleman farmer and Pacific NW woodsie atmospheres is idyllic. The cabin has a great floorplan for one or many--just the right size--and the views are stupendous. I loved it before the remodel, so can only imagine how wonderful it is now. It's a very special place.

Decatur Northwest is a wonderful place to vacation, especially with children. Very peaceful and relaxing for adults, with lots of activities for the kids. We stayed for a weekend at this cabin and really enjoyed it. The term "cabin" is an understatement, as this is a nice family home. It's spacious and comfortable. We stayed there before the recent remodel, so it's even nicer now!

Highly recommendable cabin , clean and well decorated with a fantastic placement. Decatur is the tops! What an Island-Fishing , tennis, horse shoes , table tennis etc etc - we just let the kids go wild as there are no cars (- come by boat or ferry and get back to a pace and speed that is far more human than the rest of the year! 5 star for me and the lady who runs it is really so helpful...
