Locally known as 'the old haunted house', Abigail's Rest provides a central location for exploring Gettysburg, Hershey, Lancaster and many other areas of south central PA. Don't let this nickname frighten you away. This home provides a congenial and cozy setting for exploring the area or for large gatherings with family or friends. Located in Abbottstown, less than .5 mile from the town square/circle, this home is surrounded by countryside but convenient to everything.

The home was built in the early 1800s. It has the feel of a home that has seen many happy years and families.

Sleeping accommodations include 1 master bedroom with queen and private bath on the first floor, 1 master bedroom with queen and private bath on the 2nd floor and 2 additional bedrooms, each with a queen, on the second floor. There are two adjoining bedrooms on the 3rd floor, one with a double, the other with a twin (well suited for young families). There are additional baths on the 1st and 2nd floors.

There is a large living/dining area that includes a bar and a dining table that opens to 11 ft. There is a fireplace in the living room and one in the kitchen. The kitchen includes a gas cook top range, a free-standing gas range, and a built-in electric oven. There is a billiard room with pool table and darts.

The screened porch and brick patio also provide comfortable retreats for coffee in the morning or a glass of wine at the end of the day.

It is unlikely during your stay that you will be aware of Abigail's or Captain Smith's presence, but if the Bose Wave radio stops playing on it's own, only to resume a moment or so later, it might be Abigail teasing you a bit. Or if you hear footsteps upstairs when there is no one upstairs, the Captain is probably stretching his legs. Do not be alarmed, it could be the residents of yesteryear or may just be your imagination.

  • Lake Codorus just a few miles away. This place is great for celebrating holidays. During the days leading up to the 4th of July, the sky is filled with fireworks. A good location for bikers, civil-war buffs and families and friends exploring our Dutch Country to relax at the end of a busy day. Also, only 1hr, 15min ride from the inner harbor in Baltimore. Take in an Orioles game at Camden Yards one afternoon.
