It is hard to say what was best about Lattice House and our vacation there. The setting is superb, the house beautifully designed, the furnishings handsome, simple and comfortable, the kitchen well- equipped, the pool inviting. The first view wowed us and banished that tiny worry of whether we’d chosen the right house, the best house, for our vacation with family and friends. It more than met our expectations—really a very special place. Pat, the owner and Ana, her on-site manager could not have been more accommodating. They have really thought of everything—before we arrived we received notes on the house, on activities and restaurants in the area, on the best place to shop for groceries, on what to bring ---and as a result felt at home and relaxed immediately. Ana was always available to answer any and all questions once we were there. Our favorite restaurants were in Ojochal: Citrus for lunch and Exotica for dinner. The Osa Canopy Tour delivered an exciting zip-lining adventure and the Farmers Market in Uvita was a fun source for fabulous breads from a Frenchman and great cocktail sauce from the Pickle Sisters. We bought fresh-from-the-sea shrimp and fish from Randall in Ojochal on Tuesday and Friday mornings—he sells from a cooler on the right side of the road as you enter Ojochal—fabulous! Whatever else we did we tried to be back to the house by 5:00 for "The Magic Hour” when the jungle comes alive—the sounds are nothing short of amazing and a perfect backdrop to cocktails on the deck, pool play with our granddaughters and grilling Randall’s shrimp. It was all awesome—and I hope we have the good fortune to return to this beautiful country and to Lattice House one day.

My husband and I both agree that we had the best, most relaxing vacation ever at Lattice House. Also the nicest house we've ever rented with the most beauitful view ever, we're still dreaming about it. The house is in perfect harmony with the incredibly beautiful surrounding nature and wildlife. We did a few things while staying there, Sierpe boat trip and Manuel Antonio Park, fishing trip which were all wonderful, I'm in a wheelchair and though things aren't always too accessible in beautiful Costa Rica the people and guides were always very helpful and kind and will go out of their way to help. Mostly we just stayed at the house though and never tired of the beautiful views, awesome relaxing infinity pool and abundant wildlife there was to see. We loved the many Toucans, saw a whole troop of Capuchins monkeying all around the trees surrounding the house, howler monkeys, so many beautifully colored birds and butterflies, Coatis, just endless beauty! My husband loved using the big BBQ outside and the kitchen has everything you need too. On top of all that there is Ana who lives up the road who's so kind and helpful for anything you need, just great, we loved her! We definitely want to come back in the near future and highly recommend this house!

Have wanted to visit the "Villa" for at least 3 years. Have seen many pictures and descriptions, but they don't tell the whole story. You try to envision a vacation and hope it turns out good. This one turned out much higher than my best expectation!! My 'mother in law' met us at the front door (we were late arriving) and she said thank you 5 times and stated that I was "back in the Will". You can literally stay on the 65 acre grounds and see a lot of animals and birds that you drive to the parks for. A truly GREAT place. Spend at least 30 minutes on the meditation bench, it will chenge your life..

The look on my husband's face when he walked thru the house and saw the pool, the grounds and smiled was really a once in a lifetime event especially for him! He was, as was our entire family, totally blown away but Lattice House, it's amenities, indescribable grounds all around and then then seeing the ocean below! All of this in one view! And then Toucans flew into the trees, it was like a movie! Yes there is also a very handy and complete town but as my husband exclaimed, "Why would I need to leave"! The rest of the family hiked the trials, saw the waterfall, went on the Canopy Tour, had some surfing lesson. I stayed by the pool, let Ana the house manager handle all the details and discussed an evening menu with our warm and most accomplished chef Alexandra. (that Ana had hired for our party).

We left for Costa Rica in a snowstorm, and returned in a snowstorm, but the week in between at Lattice House was glorious, not long enough. We rented this property after research on the web, and a few e-mail exchanges with the owner, who assured we wouldn't be disappointed, and we weren't. You get exactly what is advertised, . We were three families travelling from various parts of North America, meeting in CR for a family vacation, and everything went off without a hitch, mainly due to Pat and property manager Ana's close attention to detail. As pre-arranged, we were met at the airport by Mariano for the trek over the mountains. I would highly recommend using him for any transport needs, we felt very safe and secure in his hands for the extended drive to Lattice house as the new highway happened to be closed. We arrived at Lattice House to a tico meal waiting, and fell into bed. The next morning we awoke to an immaculate house and property, and rental vehicles were delivered directly to the door. Ana had organized any requested tours ahead of time, and although you can be as busy or as relaxed as you'd like, we found the perfect balance of doing something every second day, and just hanging out at the house, and exploring the property and area on alternate days. This is not a vacation for those who like to be in the middle of the action, rather it is a tranquil setting away from the tourist areas, yet all conveniences are a short, simple drive away (groceries, gas, bank, doughnuts in Uvita - 7 kms down the newly paved coastal road). Every night we fell into bed by 10:00pm, and were up by 6:00am. There's nothing like having coffee on the deck in the morning with the wonderful vistas, watching toucans and aracari's, not to mention the myriad of other birds with the sound of howler's in the background. Sounds and feels surreal now that we're home. We saw howlers, white-faced capuchin monkeys, coatis, agoutis, two and three-toed sloths, lizards, bullfrogs, lots of toucans, scarlet macaws, and an array of really interesting bugs (praying mantis, stick bugs, beautiful butterflies, etc., etc.). The house perfectly met our needs, the kitchen was fully equipped and we didn't want for anything. We BBQ'd about half the time, and ate out the other - plenty of restaurants. The bathrooms were all beautiful, but by the end of the week, we were all scheduling our time in the outdoor shower! Beautiful country, warm people, idyllic setting, we'll be back!

Lattice House was excellent. We had a family get-together so there were 5 adults, 1 teenager, a 4 year old and a 7 month baby. The house fit our needs perfectly. It was well equipped, very comfortable, and very clean. We also had to fight for the outdoor shower as everyone preferred it. The comfortable beds in the air-conditioned bedrooms were appreciated on the hot nights. On our arrival we were provided with a great meal which we appreciated after traveling for so long. The grounds and the view was spectacular with many animals and birds (howler monkeys and toucans to name a few). Everyone was very helpful and friendly and went out of there way to make us feel at home and had many recommendations to make our stay special. The 'Argentinian Bakery' was visited often and any of our meals we had out were great. We would highly recommend this property to not only families but adults only as well as it is suitable to all. It truly is paradise!!

We recently stayed at this house near Uvita/Dominical. The house and grounds are fantastic. A lot of thought has clearly gone into the design of the house and its upkeep. The website is accurate, and both the owner and on-site manager (Ana) are very helpful. The views are spectacular and the house sits on a huge lot with gated access. The house has a lived in feel with beautiful artwork and furniture in the house, and Asian statuary throughout the grounds. We have stayed in four different VRBO houses on three separate trips to Costa Rica and this house was far and away the best. There are several great restaurants in the area and the beaches are great. Daily visits from Toucans and many other birds that I wish I could name. An attentive, non-intrusive local manager provided helpful advice on the area. Highly recommended.

Lattice House is delightful, peaceful, spotless, and, Ana was wonderful! The early mornings and late evenings were fabulous with birds and beasties (love the howlers!). Could have really done without the day-long clicking cicadas though - it was amazing how after a few days they grated on the nerves - but I understand they are only here a short time each year (luckily). My hearing-impaired FIL had trouble with that background noise in particular. But again, the place is delightful and so close to so many wonderful attractions (zip lines, snorkeling and horseriding in particular). The Uvita Saturday market was a pleasure. I would love to return!
Owner response:Yes, I understand the cicadas were particularly bad this year---everywhere in the area, not just at Latttice House. We all wish there is something to deter them, but alas, we are in their jungle, and they win the battle!

We just returned from a two week stay at Lattice House in January 2010. The house is located within a gated private reserve, that is extremely private, and yet very accessable. The grounds are spectacular - every morning we went and picked fresh grapefruit for our breakfast and were mesmorized by the birds and wildlife. The house itself is 5 star. Absolutely no complaints - everything was as represented. We never used the air conditioning once, and the temps were in the mid 30's most days. The bedroom cools off nicely in the evening with the ceiling fan and window open. Pat the owner, was a delight to deal with. Ana is the property manager who lives just up the road and is extremely helpful and genuinely a very friendly person to meet. IF you are lookng for a luxurious getaway, with one of the best views in the area - this is the house..... I would like to say we would stay again but we so much enjoyed Costa Rica that we are now looking at a property of our own in the area. BR, Calgary Alberta

We stayed at the Lattice House in April 2009 with a group of 4 couples. The place is SIMPLY AMAZING…we were all blown away from the minute we pulled in the driveway and looked through the glass doors to the view of the pool and the ocean. The house is incredible. We can’t wait to return.

This place is just simply magical. The house itself is a beautiful wonder with windows and doors open to the beautiful scenes outdoors. It is very well equipped and furnished very comfortably inside and out. The real appeal however is its exquisite location with howler monkeys every morning, butterflies, hummingbirds, toucans everywhere and just a drop dead gorgeous view of the beach and ocean. The arrangements were easy to make and the stay was just magnificent. I only wish I could have stayed longer...

We have rented homes in many countries and yet, this one has been the best so far. After a week of constant traveling to see the varied sights of Costa Rica, we were ready to settle down for some serious relaxation: and Lattice House delivered in spades. Every morning we heard the howler monkeys at sunrise, and every afternoon the Toucans came to visit the trees near the house. In between? Eye popping views and an endless array of interesting flowers, fruits, birds, animals and insects to marvel over. The view is breathtaking and we spent long hours just hanging at the edge of the pool admiring the Pacific - and when we got tired of that we would turn around and look for monkeys in the nearby trees! The house, grounds, and pool are all meticulously maintained and the local hosts are ready and willing to assist with any needs that you may have. The owner has left an extensive booklet of tips about the surrounding area which was very helpful. While none of us are surfers, the waves were great for boogey boarding (and the owner has a number of boogey boards available for use). On our list of "not to be missed" is the Horseback ride to Nauyaca Falls with Don Lilo (where you MUST jump off the waterfall!) and a visit to the french baker in Ojochal. While the bread is indeed tasty, I greatly enjoyed the experience of just FINDING him!

I grew up in Costa Rica so my expectations were very high before arriving - and my expectations were exceeded in every way. 1) Absolutely spectacular location. The view is simply second to none. 2) The house is quiet and relatively isolated, but within easy access of great beaches and good restaurants 3) The house and amenities are top notch 4) Great pool, great BBQ, fabulous balconies. Well designed and comfortable 5) There is enough to do in the area to keep you busy, or you can do nothing if you please. Perfect. I can't recommend the house enough and I'm likely to return. Getting there is easy - quick flight from San Jose to Palmar Sur and rental cars are easily accessible. Bottom line: Fabulous

We had a fabulous time at the Lattice House and highly recommend it to others who want to take a dream vacation to Costa Rica. It is an elegant place with a beautiful view in a great location surrounded by birds and howler monkeys. Day trips are easily accessible whether you want to go to the Oso Peninsula and Isla del Cano, snorkel or surf in the ocean or take a zip line tour in the jungle. But beware, it is easy to decide not to go anyplace and just relax in this retreat in the midst of its own wildlife preserve. On the property there are lovely places to hike, you can swim in the pool, or relax on one of the decks with your camera in one hand, your binoculars hanging around your neck and a cup of coffee or glass of wine on the table beside you. Close by there are excellent places if you want to eat out and well stocked markets if you want to fix a nice meal on the veranda by the pool. Ours was a three generation family trip with teenagers, young adults as well as older adults – and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. So grab your bathing suit, binoculars, a good camera (you won’t believe what wonderful photos you can take there) and you’re ready to go. Jan and Tim

When we saw photographs of the Lattice House it struck a chord with us, and upon arrival it surpassed every expectation. The house is in perfect harmony with its surroundings and the views and private location are superb. The funishings are both comfortable and exceptionally beautiful with a first rate barbecue grill by an infinity pool that appears to dip into the Pacific Ocean. We were there the first week of Dec. 2008 with our adult children - 8 of us in all- had great weather, had fun at Hacienda Baru's zip lines and the horseback ride to Naucaya waterfalls, used boogie boards (that came with the house) at gorgeous beaches (not particularly good for sitting but great water and waves) and never had to drive more than 20 minutes to anything. The owner e-mails you a complete list of cafes (sodas), restaurants, activities, grocery stores and caterers. We had beaches to ourselves, there were very few tourists around which we liked. We stopped at Manuel Antonio on the way back to San Jose (4 1/2 hours to SJO) and it seemed like a zoo in comparison. If you like unspoiled beauty and monkeys and toucans in your backyard with a few low-key adventure companies thrown in, this is the place for you.

Beautiful house with awesome views. Attentive care takers to care for our every want (massages, tours, dining). Far enough removed to enjoy the outside shower and copper tub (which was my favorite part) but close enough to stores and restaurants. Loved all of the monkeys, toucans and other wild life.

This is definitely a relaxing oasis. The house is perfect for entertaining day and night. Every room is decorated and stocked wonderfully. They thought of everything...Interesting books, magazines full of recipes in which we used daily and cable TV for late night viewing. A list of local restaurants was in the "House Book" that proved to be excellent suggestions. The kitchen had everything we needed for every meal (when we cooked). We spent most of our time outside. The view was spectacular morning noon and night. The pool was the perfect temprature all day. The BBQ pit was our stove of choice. The outside dining table created a tropical dining experience like no other. The house was clean, maid service was available with an appointment. We loved loved the house and would stay there again and again.

First of all, let me simply say that our time at your magnificent Lattice House was the best part of the best trip my family has ever taken... just being there. We were moved by the spirit of the place. We were often stopped in our tracks by the beauty in every direction. The toucans in the morning and evening, the troops of howler monkeys, the gardens...perfect. Every part of every day was charming. The house and all the systems worked perfectly. We were late arriving, but Donna was there at sunset with the windows wide open, the fruit on the table tempting, and with a friendly welcome she was gone, leaving us to the jungle sounds and the wonder of the place. There were several very good restaurants along the coast. And the fishing was extraordinary. My daughters caught their first sailfish!

We rented the Lattice House quite by accident the last week of 2007. Our Windjammer Cruise was canceled at the last minute but the 6 of us decided to visit Costa Rica as none of us had been there. Eileen found Lattice House on the internet and we contacted the owners and found it was available the week we were to have cruised. The house is only one year old and beautiful. Quality wood-work throughout and plenty big for our group. I believe 8 people would be comfortable staying here. My fondest memory was the first morning. We had arrived the evening before and did not have much time for exploration before dark. Two of us woke early, just as it was beginning to get light. We brewed a pot of coffee and walked down below the house, near the fire pit. All of a sudden we heard a loud roar. It sounded like a wild cat of some kind. We looked at each other with wide eyes and asked "What the hell was that?" Then we heard it again but this time way down below the house. I looked at my friend and said "I don't know but there's two of them!" We decided it would be our best interest to head back to the house. The next morning I rose before dark and made my way to the same spot. Again, just after daybreak, I heard the roar again. This time I really puit my ear to it and could hear the individule monkeys sounding right at the end of the roar. They were Howler Monkeys. We could not see them but could plainly hear 2 or 3 troops "marking" their territory. If you click on 'Monkey Music' on the website, you will hear exactly what we heard. It was the most fasinating sound I have ever heard. I play 'Monkey Music' several time each week you 'transport' myself back to Lattice House. One suggestion. Make the arrangements for your group to stay here. When you do the arranging, you have 'dibs' on the Master Bedroom. It should be called the Master Suite as it is huge. It has a 'private' outdoor shower and large copper soaking pool on it's own private deck. The view is overlooking the 'monkey trees', where we saw both howler and white face monkeys, toucans and all kinds of creatures I don't even know the names of. By the way, the monkeys are very timid and do not come too close to the house so the stories you have heard about aggressive monkeys are not true hear. More likey at the National Parks in CR where poeple feed them on a regular basis. We will return to Lattice house. I highly reccommend you think about giving it a go! Cheers---Steve Hall

This is going to take awhile.....I have so much to say about this stunning property. Following the homeowners very specific directions, you come upon the driveway into the property and it looks hidden and non descript. You turn off the coastal road and enter the property through a simple gate.......then you're eyes start to buldge because you can't believe this is where you have come to stay. A beautiful upward curving manicured tropical drive is lined with palm trees. This goes on for a good half of a mile as you ascend the reserve-like (I think it is a reserve - 50 acers) property. Then you see the house. Wow. I said to myself, "All my hard work in finding the perfect house for the perfect family vacation (my parents included) and I DID IT!" The house is soooo perfect. The photos say it all. It should be in architectural digest (remember David Bowie's house in Bali - this is as close as you'll come to it without traveling over the pacific). The views are stunning and dramatic. This is a great location for a photo shoot. I am an architectural designer and this was nirvana! I took soooo many pictures and hope to put them up on this site if there is a way to share them. Stop your search, I have done it for you (40 hours of house hunting - no kidding!) This is the place for you! The house itself is peaceful and secluded. Several mornings I woke up early and hiked up behind the house into the ancient forest to discover tree frogs, monkeys and toucans The dining is great in the dominical area and grocery shopping is 10 mins down the road. The caretakers are very enthusiastic and a wealth of information. Dominical is the place to go because it is still the unspoiled true Costa Rica. This may be over the top as far as a review but when you have a vacation this great after putting in so much time and energy you feel like you've won the Oscar for travel planning. The small print: I am in no way related to or knew the homeowners when I booked this house. I just loved it in the photos and made the contact!
