Vacation of a Lifetime

Guest: Classy Klees (Wabasha, MN)
Date of Stay: 04/02/12 Review Submitted: 04/15/12

Dear Busch House Thank you, We had a wonderful time. The house was cozy and our family loved it. We really enjoyed the Three Chimneys Horse Farm, The Bourbon Trail venues as well as the Kentucky Horse Park, Keeneland Race Track, The Natural Bridge State Park and the Red River Gorge Area. We also had a great time at the Claireborn Farms. So much history it was so much fun. Thanks again we had a great time and lots of family fun.

Owner response:As you can tell from reading this review, there is a lot to see and do here. That means your party may not get to spend as much time at Bush House, but any time you have to spend there is worthwhile.

Wonderful weekend Getaway

What a great place to spend a getaway weekend! The location is excellent and the countryside is so serene. We enjoyed watching the mother bird feed her babies in the nest close to the house and the cows grazing across the road. We city slickers don't get the opportunity to see this normally. It was a bit too wet and muddy to walk the trails; maybe next time! The rooms in the house were spacious and very appealing to the eye. The decor is what I would love to have at home! We didn't get to the racetrack but we enjoyed playing "The HorseRace Game" on the dining room table. You could probably hear us laughing and cheering our horses on all the way over in the cow pasture - I hope we didn't keep the cows awake! Everything was well maintained and clean. What a nice surprise to find breakfast items supplied for us! How thoughtful! Chuck gave us good ideas on where to eat dinner. We followed his directions to Halls Restaurant and are glad we did. The food was good and the staff was very friendly. We couldn't have had a better time!

Home Again!!

Once more, our family enjoyed the wonderful Bush House for our annual gathering. This year the weather was not so good for staying at the Keeneland track for three days as we usually do. So we spent one full day -- about 14 hours -- playing board games. The dining table was the perfect place for 8 of us to compete and enjoy snacks at the same time! I hope we didn't disturb the cows across the road with all our whooping and hollering! Every need has been thought of and provided for at the Bush House. We couldn't have found a cleaner, more attractive place. Having all the bed linens and the towels furnished surely makes packing easier. We love the robes and several of us enjoyed wearing those on "jammie day" when we stayed in and played games. We drove over to Paris, KY for dinner one night at Verden's Bistro -- excellent meal and service. There really are so many nice restaurants and sightseeing venues in the area! We hope to be able to take advantage of those next year. and, yes, we will most definitely go back for a third year at our KY home! Photos of this place, although nice, just don't do justice to the cozy atmosphere, the welcoming views, and the easy living to be enjoyed here!

Delightful Home

Guest: Lorne R. (Calgary, AB)

Bush House is beautiful and the host family is fantastic. We had a tremendous stay in the home during the World Equestrian Games this past October. The home is well located with wasy access to the freeway and shopping whilst still being out in the country! The wallking trails and surrounding country side are beautiful. We enjoyed the house tremendously and would recomend it to anyone who wishes to have a country break while still being close to the city!

Delightful Stay

We had a delightful stay at the Bush House. The house is so unique and beautiful, and supplied with so many amenities that it was just like being at home. The Lexington area also made a great vacation spot with all the horse farms and revolutionary war fort just minutes from the house location. Thanks again for the great hospitality.

Beautiful, serene home

The Bush House was as beautiful as it appears in the photos. We visited from Atlanta and met family from Chicago there - the adults and kids in our party all had a great time there. The house was very well appointed. Some of our favorite activities were: meals in the lovely dining room, playing with the kids and puppy in the yard, walking through the wildflowers, and watching a beautiful starscape. We hope to have a chance to return.

11 April 2010 What a beautiful home you have… and thank you for making it available to us for our annual family vacation. (photos just can't capture the relaxing, inviting atmosphere). We will definitely be back! This was so much nicer than separate hotel rooms – and full of surprises like the terry robes, the washing machine, cooking spices in the kitchen cabinet, things we have not seen before in a vrbo.com rental. Being able to gather around the huge dining table to eat, play board games, or just visit was a nice advantage as well. We enjoyed the Keeneland Track, the Kentucky Horse Park, and especially the local Winchester restaurants and conveniences! Well done Kentucky hospitality! Thanks again, Walt & Dottye and family, including Chad, Karin, Emily, Boden, Glenn, and Jonni from North Carolina and South Carolina

November 29, 2009When we pulled up the driveway to Bush House, I said I felt like we were in a “Hallmark Thanksgiving “ memory. This is such a great place for a family gathering. It was perfect for us as the travel midpoint for the Bauhof’s (Michigan) and the Casey’s (Alabama). The house was well stocked and fully equipped for the feast we prepared on Thanksgiving ! The countryside is beautiful. Downtown Winchester is charming. The Fort Boonesboro (State Park) “Trade Days” celebration was fascinating. We have fond memories of our Thanksgiving at Bush House and intend to make more there in the future. Thanks,Bill, Maria and Gena Casey

September 27, 2009Though the rain prevented our being able to walk the beautiful property, we thoroughly enjoyed our much too short stay at the Bush House. The house was so well appointed, comfortable and accommodating. While we enjoyed most meals at the house, the location is very convenient to great restaurants, as well as sightseeing and events in the Lexington area. Thanks for all the little extras that made our stay such a pleasure. We can’t wait to come back!Art & Jean BrightwellWiley & Pat AndreuJacksonville, Florida

Idyllic stay

Guest: Fenwick (Winston-Salem, NC)
Date of Stay: 06/17/09 Review Submitted: 06/23/09

The owners are extremely generous to open their old family home to visitors. You truly feel like guests from the well-stocked kitchen (it contains everything you might need to cook a big family dinner) to various bathroom supplies to the well-equipped laundry room. I have rented several cabins and houses and never had our needs met like this. We had a very relaxing time and really enjoyed the local area. I enjoyed my morning walks around the open fields and large lake (the local reservoir has a well-worn path around it). It was nice to hear the cattle in front of the house. I highly recommend this farm and look forward to our return next summer.

June 4 – 7, 2009What a wonderful get away for our annual biking trip! Bush House was lovely and all of your “extras” were very much appreciated. We spent three days bicycling the horse country, which was amazing! Lunched at Wallace Station and Lock & Key (both were delicious). We had great dinners in the beautiful dining room at Bush House and enjoyed the movies you provided. This was a perfect, relaxing weekend and we look forward to returning! Thank you again for your hospitality.Sincerely,The Furman’s, The Hilgut’s,The Bailey’sParviz Shamlou

We loved being at your beautiful historic home for Christmas. It was such a surprise to find all the holiday decorations and the fruit and stocked pantry. Our time there was peaceful and comfortable. I can't imagine any place being more perfect. It will be our first choice for future visits to Kentucky.

The Bush House was a nice retreat for us and we enjoyed our stay there. We definitely prefer this to a hotel and the accommodations were very nice. We were able to cook out on the grill and enjoy a nice evening playing croquet with the kids. I would recommend to anyone considering a visit to the Lexington area..

This was a perfect place for all of us friends (party of 8)to relax and enjoy each other's company during the Rolex 3-Day Equestrian Event nearby at the Kentucky Horse Park. We look forward to staying here again - maybe 2009 Rolex or at least the 2010 Equestrian Games. Thank you for providing a beautiful escape and an elegant alternative to the typical hotel-type stay. We're so happy you have the home back in the family. Its a truly cozy haven - the care you put into the details is obvious. And I loved the cedar oil added to the atmosphere! The extras you left there in the way of supplies was wonderful, added to the well-stocked kitchen. (This comment from the guest register at Bush House).

Thanks so much for the lovely accommodations! The house is very inviting and a welcome refuge after a day of activities and exploring. It is truly a home away from home. It is wonderful to be out "away from it all". When we plan our next visit to Lexington we will plan to return to Bush House. Thanks for a wonderful spot for a family trip, truly southern hospitality. Recently some friends and we enjoyed a wonderful country estate weekend at Bush House. We all got into our whites for croquet, and the next day while the men shot clay pigeons, the women explored the stone ruins of one of Kentucky's oldest industrial settlements on Lower Rock Creek near Daniel Boone's Fort Boonesboro. We can't wait to get back and use Bush House as a base for visiting the horse farms and going to the races at Keeneland. Our thanks to the Morgans. Bill and Billie Strunk Havre de Grace, MD
