My husband and I, along with friends stayed four nights at the Lake House in September 2012 after we won tickets to the baseball hall of fame in Cooperstown. The Lodge is a short distance from the hall of fame and is on a good size lake in Richfield Springs. We had rooms on the third floor that overlooked the lake and spent free time using the canoes to row out to the island in the middle of the lake. We would highly reccomend the Lake House for couples who enjoy outdoor activities.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Our baseball team stayed at the Lake House in August 2012 to play ball at Dreams Park in Cooperstown. We stayed on the second and third floors and there were 35 of us including parents, siblings, and grand parents. We found out between games or in the evening this was a great facility for swimming and fishing. The team also rented a pontoon boat for fishing and swimming and the boys had a great time and in the evening, we could have a bon fire to cap the night off. If you want to relax on the lake shore you are more than welcome with the multiple chairs and tables on the lawn. Our sister team has already booked the Lake House for 2013!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Dirty rooms, poor water pressure, cats running throughout house even though owners claimed no pets were present. Asked ahead and was assured no cats/dogs around, but there were. Water would frequently go out completely when all needed to get ready for baseball games. Foul odor like mildew also.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Today was our last day at the Lake House and its Friday morning and we are sad to leave. Even Bella the house dog had a sad face, we became close to her. We rented all three floors and the cottage and had a wonderful experience. The facility was perfect for a large group and even though we were demanding, the staff graciously accommodated every request. We especially had a great time when we rented the two pontoon boats they had and we all went out and had a great time on the lake, swimming, fishing, snorkeling, sunbathing, playing cards and just visiting. We will never forget the team party they catered on the lake and capped off with a huge bon-fire at dusk.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Our team stayed for a week last summer at the Lake House while our boys were playing in a Dreams Park Baseball Tournament in Cooperstown. The lodge overlooks the lake and has a lots of lake frontage. We had so much space to have a place for the other kids to play, we hosted a team party on the lawn, cooked on the BBQ in the gazebo and played in the water with the canoes and rowboat. The kids caught fish and really had a great time. The lodge was simple yet elegant both inside and outside. Rooms were nicely furnished and comfortable. Breakfast was available for all that wanted it and was delicious. The Lake House is an awesome place for entire baseball families to stay while their sons are at Dreams Park playing baseball. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend the Lake House to any team needing lodging for a week.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 5/6

What interests us most when we travel, is to visit places that are unique, comfortable and interesting. We aren't fans of big places or chain type hotels/motels. We want to be off the beaten path in a place that will create a memory for us. We found exactly what we were looking for when we recently spent the weekend at the Lake House in Richfield Springs, New York. It is so relaxing and has the added feature of being very close to the Baseball Hall of Fame. For two all time Yankee fans, it was perfect. We enjoyed dinner in the tavern with the glow of the many stained glass lights the owners have collected over the years, listened to the live piano music on Friday and on Saturday came back for another great dinner- I had the stuffed rainbow trout- it was outstanding- as an added bonus in addition to the piano music there was a saxaphone player and a singer. We really had a wonderful weekend and will return for more great food and the relaxing atmosphere next year.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/4

This weekend we attended the Pumpkin Fest in Cooperstown. What fun watching the giant pumpkins being weighed and buying some treats from the local vendors! We love Cooperstown and although it is not far from our home, we decided to have a weekend away and booked a room at the Lake House in Richfield Springs. Our room overlooked the lake and we had a fabulous time. We had dinner in the tavern, listened to the piano player and the singer, and then Sunday morning breakfasted on French toast made with homemade bread, real maple syrup and crispy bacon. It was a mini-vacation that really made us feel good. Next time we will just go for dinner because it is just an hour from home but next season we will spend two nights enjoying a relaxing weekend together. Wonderful hosts, great food and comfortable accommodations- a recipe for a great romantic weekend together.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/4

A large group of us with boys playing at Dreams Park in Cooperstown chose the Lake House as our base of operations. We are all very athletic and some of us even brought our bikes- although we didn't have much time to do anything but watch the boys play, we did have the chance to ride around the lake- about 20 miles total one morning before we had to get to the park. It was a great ride and a great place to stay and relax. We would recommend the Lake House for any team that will play in Cooperstown. It is about 20 minutes from the fields but the ride is easy and goes quickly. We found that it was really good to relax there after the games and spent many evenings together on the deck talking about the games. We loved our Dreams Park experience and will never forget Dreams Park or the Lake House.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/4

Last summer we had the opportunity of a lifetime to take our son to Cooperstown to play at Dreams Park with his team. We found the Lake House in Richfield Springs for all of us to stay while the kids were there. We arrived on Friday to find a pleasant staff, comfortable rooms, beautiful lake, yummy food in the restaurant and cold beer on tap. What a great combination! We enjoyed the deck at night- (we hit a week that there was a full moon and it was to beautiful over the water), the lawn to play and picnic with the boys, and the fun of all of us being together everyday to talk about the games, sightsee and share the good times. We would recommend both the Dreams Park experience and the Lake House to anyone who has a son who loves the game of baseball. Start planning now and make it happen. It is an experience that we will never forget.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/4

My son's baseball team played at Dreams Park in Cooperstown this past summer. All of the families decided to stay together and looked for a place big enough for our eleven families. We found the Lake House. It has rooms on the second floor, a room on the first floor and a cottage by the lake. There were over 30 of us all together- counting the brothers and sisters of our boys playing and this was the perfect place. It was right on the lake, there is a restaurant on the first floor, fishing poles, canoes, and rowboats to paddle around in, a place to picnic, everything we wanted to have great times together and relax when we weren't at the park. The boys came over twice and we had a great BBQ and bonfire. I loved the place and would recommend it to any group looking for a convenient and comfortable place to stay- reasonably priced, too. It's a good deal.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/4

We are members of a baseball team from Nevada that stayed at the Lake House. We all wanted to be together so we looked for a nice place that could handle all forty of us. The Lake House easily handled 30 people and the cottage another 10. The Lake House more than exceeded our expectations. This is a family run business like no other. We thought we would have seen everything coming from Las Vegas but this was the best vacation we could have planned. The owner had to unlock our door more than once and never complained that we kept leaving our keys behind. She no sooner got our door open one night and a restaurant patron, who came by boat to eat, couldn't start his boat. She said, "I can help you with that, " and got out a 40 foot jumper cable and helped him start his boat from her car. I was impressed! The Lake House easily handled our team party using the spacious gazebo on the lake. Their large lawn provided us with ample space to play ball and have a picnic. There was space for the team, parents, siblings, grandparents, all of us- with room to spare. The kids used the canoe and rowboats and had an awesome time. The kids even spent the night having a delicious breakfast in the morning before we took them back to Dreams Park for their game. A piano player is there every night for live music and dancing during dinner and after. This is a great touch for the overnight guests and patrons. The restaurant is AAA approved and the food is great. We even had homemade donuts one morning before leaving for our game as a special treat. We could not have been happier any other place. The Lake House is perfect for us. The last night there was a bonfire by the lake that lit up the sky and the shoreline. We had a great time and recommend this for any large group that wants a comfortable, homey, and wonderful place to spend their vacation. The one problem we did have was the gps address took us to an old abandoned farm about a mile away.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/4

We booked the Lake House through the Public Television Station auction last winter. The Lake House is not a party place unless you book a reception, business party etc. but rather a peaceful hotel in which one can kick back, read a book, enjoy the deck with friends and family, go out in a canoe or rowboat to fish for muskies or watch the loons. The lobby is very nice with a collection of Tiffany lights from the early 1900's .We had an evening check- in and the piano player was just past the lobby in the Tavern playing old American standards. This place reeks of American History, unhurried old World charm from a different time, and the benefit of friendly staff, great food, and views of the lake. To us the travel experiences worth remembering are the great feelings and memories you get from places like the LAKE HOUSE which are all too few in number. We will always have great memories of the Lake House!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/4

We selected the Lake House from the reviews and the closeness to Glimmerglass Opera House. The owners and staff were always there for us whenever we needed help with anything! Dean the "Marina Man" gave us instructions on how to use the canoes and life jackets so we would be save as well as directions on how to paddle to the island . Christine, an owner gave us suggestions where to go and then drew us maps on how to get everywhere such as the Russian Monastery and the scenic trail system in Van Hornesville both of which we highly recommend. Gene the other owner talked to us at the bar for hours about doowop music, since we are doowop enthusiasts, and where to go in NY City to see concerts and then printed us a schedule of concerts so we know where to go when we are in NYC. We loved the live piano player and Brenda the singer on Saturday night with songs from the "American Song Book" . Our room was beautiful with a pillow-top mattress, private bath, air conditioning, cable tv, and for breakfast we had omelets, bacon and french toast with home made jam. Book this hotel early since the earliest room I could get was in August when I booked in February. Be sure to pet "Bella" the lovely white dog on the front steps when you arrive. She just loves greeting guests and they love her. What a great place to stay!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 5/6

We found the Lake House Cottage on the internet for weekly lodging where you can take your boat and have your own house. We used Trip Advisor reviews as a guide and booked the Cottage for a week in August. The Cottage is new construction built only feet from the shoreline and has cedar shakes and large operable windows for great views of the lake. As you walk in, you realize this is very different, there is no sheet rock, only wood. The floors on the first floor are all oak, walls are wide plank pine, ceiling is timber frame and wide plank wood. The living room has a table big enough for eight, sofa and chairs. The galley kitchen is small but has all new appliances, standard size with upper and lower wood cabinets, large two bowl sink and counter. The kitchen is fully stocked with pots and pans, glassware and dishes. There are two bedrooms on the first floor with two full beds in each and cable TV; one has a sliding door to the lake, the other has a huge sliding window facing the lake. There is a bath on the first floor with shower, sink, W.C. and lots of room. The second floor bedroom is beautiful with big windows on three sides with awesome views of the lake, king size bed, cable TV, dressers and chair. The bathroom has a gigantic soaking tub-( big enough for two or especially good for giving the kids a bath at the end of a busy day), sink, W.C. and bidet, washer/dryer and big closet. It was perfect- private but easy to reach. We parked right by the door-easy to unpack/pack or unload groceries. We even had enough room to invite our parents to stay for a few days with us. We used the charcoal grill and had great outdoor picnics, also. There is a table and chairs right outside the door of the Cottage- that's where we had our morning coffee while we watched the lake. We did have a wonderful week using our boat which we docked in front of the Cottage. The WiFi reached even out onto the lake and we used our laptop while we were out on the boat. We have already booked our week for next summer.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

We found the LAKE HOUSE through our boating club on Long Island. This is one of the very few Hotels that allows you to bring your boat and dock it on their docks and store our trailer free of charge while you are staying at the Hotel. We enjoyed water skiing and tubing on the lake and using their outdoor pavilion for barbecuing and picnicking. We forgot several life preservers and they graciously loaned us some of theirs. Our room had a queen bed and a set of bunk beds the kids loved. We had a private bath with tub and shower, air conditioning, tv and large closet. We were on the street side but it was very quiet. Their weekly rates go from Friday to Friday and cost about $250/person so for us it was $1000.00 and the boat dock was free. Very reasonable and we had a great time. The restaurant was open for breakfast lunch and dinner and the prices were very reasonable being so close to Cooperstown. One of the owners, Christine is the chef and she does a great job running the hotel also. At night they light up the docks and shoreline so you can use your boat from the docks very easily or play a game of baseball under the stars. The hotel has live entertainment nightly and out-door dining for a hundred people. Everything went very smooth during our stay and they even gave us a shovel and showed us where to dig for worms so we could go fishing early in the morning. We ate most of our meals at the picnic area using the barbecue grill and the balance at the restaurant at the Lake House. So if you ever want to take your boat with you on vacation this hotel is the perfect place to go since they have a marina available. The only update I saw they needed was a newer fax machine, I had never used one this old.Did you find this review helpful? After reading the last trip advisor review about GHOSTS AT THE LAKE HOUSE I was reminded of the stay we had in June of 09 .It seems the Lake House Hotel has middle-of-nowhere appeal and although management for many years has played it down, stories still persist about it being haunted. New York Mobster Jack Leg's Diamond in the 1920's entertained guests such as Bonnie and Clyde, Capone, John Dillinger, Baby Face Nelson and in the 1920's and 30's the Lake House offered a different kind of getaway for Gangsters who by day were competing bootleggers or bank robbers and when at the Lake House enjoyed fishing, hunting, and backwoods golf. Local Legend has it that behind a basement wall is an escape tunnel that Jack Leg's Diamond and others used when the Feds came knocking. One story that they escaped in winter and crossed the frozen lake on the ice to be later picked up by the driver, although one of the guards, fell threw the ice and was left behind. There is some evidence that no matter how heinous their actions elsewhere, they minded their manners at the Lake House, perhaps tamed by the sense of solitude they found there. The owner told me the male ghosts are handsome and friendly, but I did not see any, I did feel a happy spirit in the Hotel. We had a great sociable dinner with our group with live music from Casablanca "Play it Again Sam" type music, which brings back memories. The Hotel is convenient to Cooperstown, the staff impeccable, with great detail, beautiful views of the lake, what more could anyone ask for!Did you find this review helpful? We just returned from a weeks stay at the Lake House with our baseball team families. I can't say enough good things about our experience there. The owners ( Chris and Gene) and the waitress ( Diane) catered to our every need. The rooms were comfortable and clean. The family room was a great place for us to relax together , as was the restaurant and bar. Our schedule for baseball kept us at the Dreams Park until 9:30 PM several of the nights we were there. Chris and Diane were always more than happy to keep the kitchen open late for us, saving us from a week of ball park dinners! The food at the Lake House was very good. My favorite, the carrot cake! My husbands, the steamers! Lots of diversity to the menu. The lake itself was beautiful and we enjoyed the fabulous view from our rooms and the decks and restaurant. All the kids enjoyed swimming, fishing, and canoeing on the Lake House boats! I was thrilled that this stay was so good for our our team and look forward to staying there again when my 10 year old son's team comes to Cooperstown. Thanks to Chris and Diane for making our stay so special!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

There is a small group of ladies, three of us, who like to travel for wine tastings. We found a hotel in Richfeild Springs on a lake from trip advisor reviews, close to Cooperstown where our wine tasting was going on. When we returned to the Lake House that evening we sat by a fireplace in the living room and the door was open to the second floor and could hear clearly three men talking about a battle of the Potomac. Then they talked about Pickett's charge and on the 4th of July of '63 a train 14 miles long with Lee's wounded. We did notice an accent when they spoke but could not place it. The interesting part of this review came after our return home. It appears the Hotel is haunted (I am not one to believe in ghosts) but when we told our husbands about these three men talking about General Meade and Pickett's charge etc. and how many of their friends were lost ,They Looked at Bruce who teaches history and in disbelieve, informed us this was later known as the Battle of Gettysburg and ended on July 4th of 1863. This was 146 years ago to the day we were sitting there listening to these civil war veterans and 20 years to the day that the Lake House opened in 1843. Now all six of us will defintely be returning next july 4th to the Lake House for the Ghosts and great conversation.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

If you want a fancy, high priced hotel on the lake, go to the Otesaga in Cooperstown, been their twice. But if you want to remember a simple, quiet, old fashioned stay go to the LAKE HOUSE in Richfield Springs. Like the Otesaga there is a pianist playing during the day and in the evening with a singer they both sounded great together. The next morning to our delight at breakfast he came in and played the piano for breakfast guests. Christine Corrigan the owner, is wonderful. I went to the kitchen on our first night and asked Chris if she had a vending machine because I was in need of some chocolate. Christine graciously opened up her pantry and provided me with some chocolate to satisfy my craving. The next night after we returned from dreams park, Christine informed me she picked up some European Chocolate for me since she knew I liked Chocolate. This is the kind of place you feel like you're a guest in someone's home ! The hospitality and the very attentive staff with a great piano player cant be beat.Did you find this review helpful? We found this hotel through vrbo for extended stays. The reviews were very good so we booked a four night stay. Our hotel room was on the first floor and was very large with two queen beds and a twin bed, hardwood floors, wood walls, and a nice view of the lake. There are five of us so this was really perfect for us. Our breakfast was included and out of this world! The kids got hot chocolate, we got orange juice and coffee and we all had omelets with homemade biscuits and fried potatoes and all the fixings, with fresh strawberries. Complete price was $175/night with breakfast. The view from the deck is spectacular. A relaxing evening of drinks and the flickering of the boat lights off the lake made the trip complete. We are looking forward to next years visit already. I don't think you could ask for any better treatment than what the staff at this hotel gave each of us. Diane, the manager, loves to talk about the history of the Lake House including the gangsters that used it as a speakeasy during prohibition and the ghosts that are often seen. This hotel is located outside of Richfield Springs and has lovely grounds surrounding the lake. Our favorite part, Stargazing next to the lake in one of the lounge chairs. Thanks for the memories ! Sam, Kathy, Richard, Ruth, NancyDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

I spent a week at the Lake House while our son stayed at Dreams Park in Cooperstown. Our group of forty parents and siblings spent almost all our free time at the Lake House either fishing, boating, or just relaxing on the decks. We were able to host my son's baseball team for a picnic in the Gazebo next to the lake. The hotel supplied the grill and we did the cooking. Everyone on the staff was extremely friendly and helpful ,they have Dean who works there, show the kids how to use the life jackets and the proper way to use the canoes. The night life was the greatest with a piano player there five nights a week in the lounge playing live music. One night there were two singers performing Sinatra songs for the guests and they loved it! We were very happy with our stay, the staff was great, the rooms were great and the Lake House is definitely KID FRIENDLY!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Like many reviews of the LAKE HOUSE our baseball team just returned from a week at Dreams Park in Cooperstown. Most of the families stayed at the Lake House ,some at hotels or B and B's in nearby towns. We picked the Lake House because it is on a lake and offered us more ammenities than a regular hotel or B and B. We were Never Dissappointed! We were able to paddle a canoe on a beautiful lake, fish the clear water and listen or dance to live music almost every night. The Lake House will remind you of a "Great Old Adirondack Camp" that was built in the early 1800's. The hotel is set up really well next to the lake. Nothing was to much trouble for Christine, the owner, or the staff who were always polite and courteous. We ordered room service one night and it was fast, fresh, and overall excellent . The meals were generous for hotel standards and the fresh home-made complimentary breads were a great addition. I received a call from the Lake House a few days before our stay, not just a routine courtesy call, but a call from Chris, the owner, who wanted to know if there was anything at all she could do for us to make our stay better. She even gave me her personal cell phone number if I could think of anything at all she could do for us. I found the call was very genuine and friendly-not just a"routine" call at all.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

We stayed at the Lake House and the cottage for a week with our baseball team for dreams park in Cooperstown. The location of the property ,on largely undeveloped Canadarago lake, is trulely spectacular. The large decks afford a dawn to dusk oppurtunity to lounge, read, sip a drink, or dine. This Hotel is a throw back to a different place and time in the best of ways! We had a team party in the Gazebo with over sixty people who canoed, fished, collected shells on the shore ,played ball or just relaxed. We found the entire staff to be very gracious, professional, friendly, and helpful. Our room was very well appointed and up to date. The Hotel was clean and everything was first class and we felt at home. Our team plans on telling other teams to stay here also.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

My family just returned from celebrating my mothers 70th birthday at the Lake House in Richfield Springs N Y.While I have stayed at better places, the Lake House exceeded our expectations in so many ways. For example all the rooms open into a large family living room that is just great for family reunions or business functions. The staff is so friendly they made our stay very memorable for us and my mother. The Lake House is an old fashioned building built on the shores overlooking a lovely lake, the patio has a covered outdoor stage and a huge deck with rocking chairs for two plus tables and chairs. The rooms are standard fare, The FOOD is much better than average and extremely reasonable in price. The head waitress Diane will tell you all the great places to see and have a ghost story or two when she has time. Every one in our group had a wonderful time and will be back over and over again.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Several years ago we ate dinner here and enjoyed it very much so we decided to book the Hotel when we returned since the owner showed us all the rooms ahead of time. We loved them all so it was easy to book and know what we were getting for our money. There are five of us and they had several rooms that handled that many with a private bath and with a gogeous view of the lake and the sunsets. Our breakfast was included and it was a full serving of eggs and bacon ,juice, coffee, homefrys, hot chocolate for the kids, etc.It got so we arranged our days aroud the meals at the Lake House since they all were so good and with a family of five we were looking for the best value. Now the kids want to come back next year since they liked it so much and yes the parents have fond memories of the LakeHouse too.Did you find this review helpful? Good Morning! I wanted to quickly pass along a note about our experience at the Lake House during the summer of 2008. We are a close knit group of parents whose kids have played together for years and looking forward to a great experience playing in a cooperstown national tournament. We wanted to stay together as a team because we enjoyed each others company, ability to car pool, and share in the experiences our boys enjoyed each day. If possible we wanted one place that would have the charm of the mountains, away from the crowds, food and drink on location, and possibly most importantly - a reasonable cost for a clean/classy facility. So 8 families - 23 people, landed at the Lake House for a week. The Lake House exceeded all our expectations. * We thoroughly enjoyed the multiple areas to talk after the games. From the upstairs game area often used by the kids, to the restaurant and bar areas, to the deck and dock we could get together with just our family, one other family or the entire clan. * From the entrance to our rooms to the furniture, the Lake House had all the charm of a classic B&B. * The food was very good ... but perhaps the most used area was the comfortable bar and deck. Many of us only had coke's and appetizers, but it was a great atmosphere to unwind after the day. * The area around the lodge was wonderful - we went on a 3-5 mile run through the hills everyday and even enjoyed a canoe trip across the lake. * Talking to other teams, our week was very reasonably priced for a more comfortable place then they booked. * But we were a big group. Hard to please all the time and could be loud as excitable groups get. But the staff and Chris & Gene always smiled and accommodated. They were wonderful with their hospitality and allowing us to assume their house, was our house. Please do not hesitate to have anyone contact us for a positive recommendation or questions.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1
