The architect's plan for this refurbished, lovely stone cottage, positioned with truly the greatest view of the main Lake was to create the ultimate retreat for honeymoon couples or friends in search of prime hunting and fishing. A wonderful base from which to explore Kentucky Lake has successfully been constructed. The 680 square-foot lake front area of its deck offers spectacular sunrises without another structure in sight - only a calm unspoiled setting - the lake and nature. This perfect environment seems complete as visitors experience the remarkable image of a Bald Eagle reflected on the water as it soars in to perch on the branch of a surrounding tree. The wrap around deck totals 1100 square feet and is the ideal place to discover the beauty and serenity of Kentucky Lake by the light of day or under a starry sky at any season of the year. There is no more beautiful setting to begin or end your visit to the Lake.

While the cottage's design maintains a rustic mood special attention has been paid to provide distinctive quality furnishings and unique amenities that ensure the guests' comfort and a restful visit. The top floor of the cottage has a cathedral ceiling. The living space and dining area feature a grand stone fireplace and floor to ceiling windows that share the main deck's great views. Two well appointed queen bedded rooms and a full bath are also upstairs. Downstairs with a separate entrance is a quaint twin bedded room with a full bath, as well as a laundry facility.

Enhancing and maintaining quality is a happy necessity that keeps our customers returning. Ensuring that every season be one of great memory making we recently installed a new custom boat dock adjacent to the cottage. A very thoughtful process of considering what features make for the best waterfront experience has brought about many conveniences with the addition of this deluxe dock:
First, There is the Access - Here there is no steep slope or long trek to your boat. Being only one hundred feet away, step out the door and be on the dock in a minute or less. In two minutes you can be at the concrete boat launch.
Coverage and Quality are Redefined – Equipped with an attractive and highly functional hip roof, superior protection from the elements is insured. It has one 24 foot covered slip and enough additional parking for Two Cruisers. Not only is the aluminum decking non-slip, but it is splinter free. The dock has electrical.
Then, there is the Relaxation & Recreation – If after a day out you return full of the sense that exploring and playing on the lake can be both fun and hard work, here is the place to reflect on the day you have had and contemplate tomorrow’s plans. This is not just a location to store your boat and gain direct access to the lake. As the saying goes, to each his own - If you are not planning to bring a boat this visit, having a 12x28 swim platform complete with a retractable ladder makes this the spot to share a fun and rejuvenating break lounging, sunbathing or swimming.
We cannot forget the Exceptional Fishing Possibilities - Many of the cottage’s guests return to revisit the location right on our lakefront where they have had very rewarding days fishing. We are confident that their future visits will leave them happily convinced and surprised that their past successes here have been surpassed.
There is ample parking on the property for a boat trailer, and a marina with fuel and boat rentals conveniently located just one cove away.

Imagine coming home to such a peaceful and relaxing site after a day spent enjoying one or more of the area’s several attractions and activities. Of course our focus is on lake: boating and water sports, and a location where the population of bluegill, bass, crappie, and catfish make for a fisherman’s paradise.
FISHING: The fish are surely not hard to find, but for visitors with the goal of maximizing their fishing experience the owners have established relationships with the areas most knowledgeable guides. We are delighted to introduce guests to any one of these specialists who have each made it his life's passion to master and uncover this lake’s greatest features - impressive fishing opportunities and a wide array of wildlife. They are at the disposal of the expert or the novice and promise anyone wishing to learn and have the mysteries of Kentucky Lake revealed a day that will long be remembered.
GOLF: In addition to the satisfaction a day on the water offers, just a 15 minute drive away is Miller Memorial Golf Course - considered to be one of the finest golf courses in west Kentucky's lakes region, it presents many challenges for even the most seasoned golfer.
LAND BETWEEN THE LAKES: While guests have a direct view of the Land Between the Lakes from the cottage itself, in only 15 minutes they may drive and enjoy all this national recreation area has to inspire in person: 170,000 acres of wildlife, history, and outdoor activity opportunities, surrounded by 300 miles of undeveloped shoreline. LBL’s Elk & Bison Prairie is a 700-acre restoration of Kentucky’s native barrens. The Homeplace is an 1850’s working farm where west Kentucky’s history comes alive - Interpreters in period clothing demonstrate on a daily basis the chores and activities of another time. There are special events and festivals for every season. On another day one might return to explore the 200 miles of trails, the Nature Station, or the Golden Pond Planetarium & Observatory.

Cozy & Peaceful Getaway ~ Thanksgiving...

Guest: john (USA)
Date of Stay: 11/23/11 Review Submitted: 11/28/11

My husband, myself, my mom and two goldendoodles stayed in this wonderful stone cottage for Thanksgiving. It was so cozy and peaceful there. There was not a sound around - you could hear yourself thinking. Pam had told us the house next door was also rented for Thanksgiving, but we never heard a peep. The house was just as wonderful as its described in the ad. The sliding doors, deck and views are unbeatable! We were also so thankful to have Dish Satelitte TV and be able to watch movies. Thank you so much for being pet friendly!! If I could put anything on my wish list for the house would be a fenced off area for pets to run... HOWEVER there is so much yardage, wood areas... there is plenty of space to walk the dogs around. So no worries. We stayed in the cabin for most of our time there. We were able to go to Grand Rivers to shop and eat at Patti's one day. We also went to the Homeplace (Living Farm). Other than that - we just wanted to stay in this cozy cottage and relax and unwind. We did just that! I love the the ceramic tiles in the house. Now I'm trying to convince my husband we need ceramic in our house ! Thank you for sharing your home and that view. We thoroughly enjoyed the house and our Thanksgiving there.

Owner response:Thank you very much for taking the time to share how you enjoyed the Thanksgiving weekend at the Stone Cottage. It’s surely a favorite for families during the holidays. Each time the reaction is yours - “Cozy”. Yes, it’s still peaceful when the Cedar Shake Home is occupied - with it being the only other home on a 4 acre lot, and 200 feet away, your privacy is maintained. We are happy that you did get out and see some sites, enjoyed the Direct TV, etc. Most of all, we are pleased that you found the environment to work so well for your dogs. For the many with pets as members of the family, we are delighted to have their four-legged friends join in for the holidays and on vacations. We appreciate your valuable feedback.

ONE OF OUR ALL TIME FAVORITE VACATIONS!

Guest: Ron (New Rochelle, NY)
Date of Stay: 05/31/11 Review Submitted: 08/01/11

We only wish we could have stayed longer. When we suddenly had a couple of days free we decided to visit KY Lake at the last minute, and the owners were great at working with us on short notice. We didn’t expect to find such a luxurious home. All we needed to provide was our food, but we even caught two of our meals right off the dock! This is the best stocked rental home, and not just the kitchen. The décor is quality all the way and so is the finishing. The deck is huge, that’s where we had about every meal. It’s impossible to explain how incredible the views are inside and out. The dock was a whole different dimension, and pure fun – swimming, fishing, and floating around with the beauty of the lake all around us. We’ve been missing this place so much, and can’t wait to visit again next year!

Not a plesant experience.

Date of Stay: 06/04/10 Review Submitted: 07/28/11

Well, this was my family's ONLY bad experience on vrbo.com. While the home was in good condition and as represented by the photographs, the experience was one I would not wish to have anyone experience. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the owners who gave us a 30 minute speech of do's and don't. Then, they annouced they were refusing to allow 4 adults and two small children to stay as the owners claimed their insurance would not cover 6 people. Since we were 8 hours from home, 2 adults from our party were forced to rent a hotel room 20 minutes away in Murray. The owners really were not forgiving as we knew the house had beds for 5 but the two little girls were planning to sleep on the floor on sleeping bags. Not sure why they were so strict, but it pretty much ruined the mood for us for the week. We will not return again. Hope your experience is better than ours if you take a chance and choose to rent here.

Owner response:Thank you for sharing that you found our property to be in good condition and as the photos represented it to be on VRBO, that is greatly appreciated. As we receive feedback from the cottage’s repeat guests, one of the most frequent comments is they come back so often for the relaxation they value during visits. We were pleased to greet you, your wife, and two 10-year old girls (a party of four), as we do all of our guests upon arrival. Yes, as we were leaving you all and two additional adult visitors were arriving to join your party, we did bring to your attention that more than 5 guests staying on would not be possible. Since we first posted the cottage listing on VRBO.com in 2007 its description has consistently had as its first line “Maximum Occupancy is Five Guests”, as based on its design that is the greatest number of guests that makes for a comfortable vacation there. With a focus on comfort, when responding to initial inquiries and in the occupancy agreement we confirm the maximum occupancy is five. As has been shared in this review, the cottage has beds for 5 guests - two queen beds, and a single twin. The furniture in the living area is ideal for 5 guests also. There are many wonderful features about the property and KY Lake that make for a fantastic trip. Physical comfort has a great effect on ensuring a high quality vacation. As we have continually shared, we welcome the opportunity to have the cottage visited and enjoyed by vacationers with a party of 5 or less.

Wonderful Lake Cottage

What an awesome vacation we had staying at the stone cottage. Everything was perfect and Pam and Paul were about the nicest folks you ever want to meet. I think this place is a little bit of heaven. It was so relaxing to sit on the awesome lakefront deck and relax or take a quick walk to the covered boat dock to take a spin on the lake. Everything in the cottage was very high quality. We loved the fact that we could bring our four legged children. They also had a great time. :o) We certainly plan to come back.

We loved this wonderful lake retreat!

Guest: Lauren (Franklin, TN)
Date of Stay: 06/02/11 Review Submitted: 06/12/11

Pam and Paul, who own this meticulously redone stone cottage were wonderful hosts and since Paul grew up in the area he was a great resource for where to go on the lake, how to catch fish...etc. The cottage was beautiful, so close to the lake and we woke up every morning excited to just look out the multiple floor to ceiling sliding doors to watch the fishermen speed to their favorite fishing spots. With that said, the most amazing thing about the location of this cottage was not just the breathtaking views but the fact that it was not crowded or overly busy.We went with our 7 yr and 13 yr old sons who loved fishing off the boat house dock and catching striped bass (little one), redear sunfish (big ones) and even a crappie. We do not own boats but rented a pontoon boat one day and a jet ski for my 13 yr old another day. Kenlake Marina was our favorite. They were very customer service oriented, professional and a short 15 -20 min. (depending on what you are riding) straight shot by water from the cottage. We ate all meals there and the kitchen amenities and gas grill were perfect for us to cook and grill whatever we wanted. Walmart was about 25 min.s away, which is the closest full service grocery as well as a Kroger across the street from Walmart. It is a dry county so if you want a cocktail at the end of the day, bring it with you. Bottom line, we can't wait to come back, we feel like we found a little place of heaven a short 1 3/4 hours from our home in Franklin, TN. Thanks Pam and Paul!!

Best Bass Fishing Trip Yet!!

Guest: Ashley & Larry (White House, TN)
Date of Stay: 05/21/11 Review Submitted: 06/05/11

We returned once again for our annual trip to this great cottage on Kentucky Lake. We come to fish for Bass and we were not dissappointed! On our first morning, my husband caught a 10 pound Large Mouth Bass within sight of the boat dock! That was our largest catch yet here at the cottage! We had another awesome day of fishing on day 3 when again, right in sight of the boat dock, we were able to catch around 25 bass within 1 hours time. It was almost a Bass every cast. If you are a fisherman or woman, you know the thrill of getting that bite and seeing that fish on the line. We had never had an experience like this where it was literally one fish after another. We caught large mouth bass and a few stripper white bass. That day we even had another lunker weighing in at 8 pounds. If you want the best Bass fishing on Kentucky Lake, this is the place to stay and fish, you will not be dissappointed! If you don't have a boat, no worries, we even fished from the dock several times and had good luck catching large mouth bass! If you want the fishing trip of a lifetime, this is the place to stay!

Absolutely PERFECT - AWESOME CRAPPIE FISHING!!

Guest: Ken (Boston, MA)
Date of Stay: 04/21/11 Review Submitted: 05/29/11

Having never been to KY before I wasn't sure what to expect. My buddy and our wives (who were the most concerned about how this new vacation locaton would be) knew we made a great choice as soon as we arrived. The cottage is so special - it's location, right on the water with a view you can't take your eyes off of. Inside and out you can see a lot of thought went into building this place. The furnishings and every amenity are tops. I was so relieved that the ladies were thrilled. My buddy and I had the best few days of fishing, so much better than we imagined. We typically ice fish for black crappie not far from home, in Maine. We had long talked about visiting the crappie capitol of U.S., we were not dissapointed. The owner, who was raised on the lake got us going with some great advice and then we caught dozens every day, no ice, no freezing cold - Wow! Our wives checked out local antiques and visted a local quilt musuem. Everybody in our group was focused on the things we enjoy. We'll return.
