Chicago Fire

Guest: Chicago Fire (Chicago suburb)
Date of Stay: 03/22/12 Review Submitted: 03/31/12

My husband and I stayed at this beautiful cottage in late March. The first thing we noticed was the spectacular view of the lake. If the weather had been more pleasant, we would have sat on the deck. I have never stayed in a vacation rental property that was furnished and stocked so thoughtfully. The kitchen has every utensil or tool that you could possibly need - we even made our coffee in the french press, and we were happy to find not one, but two, wine openers in a drawer. I started reading one of the numerous books on the shelves, and if the NCAA basketball games hadn't been on TV, we would have played one of the board games. The massage chair is a great addition to the cottage. We have plans to return to the cottage in late July with our college-age sons. We will be bringing our fishing boat, and it will be so convenient to dock it right there. Since we will be staying for a week, I know that we will use the washer and dryer. The grounds are really pretty, and it is obvious that the owners Paul and Pam have put much time and effort into maintaining the cottage.

Cozy & Peaceful Getaway ~ Thanksgiving...

Guest: john (USA)
Date of Stay: 11/23/11 Review Submitted: 11/28/11

My husband, myself, my mom and two goldendoodles stayed in this wonderful stone cottage for Thanksgiving. It was so cozy and peaceful there. There was not a sound around - you could hear yourself thinking. Pam had told us the house next door was also rented for Thanksgiving, but we never heard a peep. The house was just as wonderful as its described in the ad. The sliding doors, deck and views are unbeatable! We were also so thankful to have Dish Satelitte TV and be able to watch movies. Thank you so much for being pet friendly!! If I could put anything on my wish list for the house would be a fenced off area for pets to run... HOWEVER there is so much yardage, wood areas... there is plenty of space to walk the dogs around. So no worries. We stayed in the cabin for most of our time there. We were able to go to Grand Rivers to shop and eat at Patti's one day. We also went to the Homeplace (Living Farm). Other than that - we just wanted to stay in this cozy cottage and relax and unwind. We did just that! I love the the ceramic tiles in the house. Now I'm trying to convince my husband we need ceramic in our house ! Thank you for sharing your home and that view. We thoroughly enjoyed the house and our Thanksgiving there.

Owner response:Thank you very much for taking the time to share how you enjoyed the Thanksgiving weekend at the Stone Cottage. It’s surely a favorite for families during the holidays. Each time the reaction is yours - “Cozy”. Yes, it’s still peaceful when the Cedar Shake Home is occupied - with it being the only other home on a 4 acre lot, and 200 feet away, your privacy is maintained. We are happy that you did get out and see some sites, enjoyed the Direct TV, etc. Most of all, we are pleased that you found the environment to work so well for your dogs. For the many with pets as members of the family, we are delighted to have their four-legged friends join in for the holidays and on vacations. We appreciate your valuable feedback.

Wonderful Lake Cottage

Guest: Louisville Cards fan (Louisville KY)
Date of Stay: 06/27/11 Review Submitted: 07/06/11

What an awesome vacation we had staying at the stone cottage. Everything was perfect and Pam and Paul were about the nicest folks you ever want to meet. I think this place is a little bit of heaven. It was so relaxing to sit on the awesome lakefront deck and relax or take a quick walk to the covered boat dock to take a spin on the lake. Everything in the cottage was very high quality. We loved the fact that we could bring our four legged children. They also had a great time. :o) We certainly plan to come back.

We loved this wonderful lake retreat!

Guest: Lauren (Franklin, TN)
Date of Stay: 06/02/11 Review Submitted: 06/12/11

Pam and Paul, who own this meticulously redone stone cottage were wonderful hosts and since Paul grew up in the area he was a great resource for where to go on the lake, how to catch fish...etc. The cottage was beautiful, so close to the lake and we woke up every morning excited to just look out the multiple floor to ceiling sliding doors to watch the fishermen speed to their favorite fishing spots. With that said, the most amazing thing about the location of this cottage was not just the breathtaking views but the fact that it was not crowded or overly busy.We went with our 7 yr and 13 yr old sons who loved fishing off the boat house dock and catching striped bass (little one), redear sunfish (big ones) and even a crappie. We do not own boats but rented a pontoon boat one day and a jet ski for my 13 yr old another day. Kenlake Marina was our favorite. They were very customer service oriented, professional and a short 15 -20 min. (depending on what you are riding) straight shot by water from the cottage. We ate all meals there and the kitchen amenities and gas grill were perfect for us to cook and grill whatever we wanted. Walmart was about 25 min.s away, which is the closest full service grocery as well as a Kroger across the street from Walmart. It is a dry county so if you want a cocktail at the end of the day, bring it with you. Bottom line, we can't wait to come back, we feel like we found a little place of heaven a short 1 3/4 hours from our home in Franklin, TN. Thanks Pam and Paul!!

ONE OF OUR ALL TIME FAVORITE VACATIONS!

Guest: Ron (New Rochelle, NY)
Date of Stay: 05/31/11 Review Submitted: 08/01/11

We only wish we could have stayed longer. When we suddenly had a couple of days free we decided to visit KY Lake at the last minute, and the owners were great at working with us on short notice. We didn’t expect to find such a luxurious home. All we needed to provide was our food, but we even caught two of our meals right off the dock! This is the best stocked rental home, and not just the kitchen. The décor is quality all the way and so is the finishing. The deck is huge, that’s where we had about every meal. It’s impossible to explain how incredible the views are inside and out. The dock was a whole different dimension, and pure fun – swimming, fishing, and floating around with the beauty of the lake all around us. We’ve been missing this place so much, and can’t wait to visit again next year!

Best Bass Fishing Trip Yet!!

Guest: Ashley & Larry (White House, TN)
Date of Stay: 05/21/11 Review Submitted: 06/05/11

We returned once again for our annual trip to this great cottage on Kentucky Lake. We come to fish for Bass and we were not dissappointed! On our first morning, my husband caught a 10 pound Large Mouth Bass within sight of the boat dock! That was our largest catch yet here at the cottage! We had another awesome day of fishing on day 3 when again, right in sight of the boat dock, we were able to catch around 25 bass within 1 hours time. It was almost a Bass every cast. If you are a fisherman or woman, you know the thrill of getting that bite and seeing that fish on the line. We had never had an experience like this where it was literally one fish after another. We caught large mouth bass and a few stripper white bass. That day we even had another lunker weighing in at 8 pounds. If you want the best Bass fishing on Kentucky Lake, this is the place to stay and fish, you will not be dissappointed! If you don't have a boat, no worries, we even fished from the dock several times and had good luck catching large mouth bass! If you want the fishing trip of a lifetime, this is the place to stay!

Absolutely PERFECT - AWESOME CRAPPIE FISHING!!

Guest: Ken (Boston, MA)
Date of Stay: 04/21/11 Review Submitted: 05/29/11

Having never been to KY before I wasn't sure what to expect. My buddy and our wives (who were the most concerned about how this new vacation locaton would be) knew we made a great choice as soon as we arrived. The cottage is so special - it's location, right on the water with a view you can't take your eyes off of. Inside and out you can see a lot of thought went into building this place. The furnishings and every amenity are tops. I was so relieved that the ladies were thrilled. My buddy and I had the best few days of fishing, so much better than we imagined. We typically ice fish for black crappie not far from home, in Maine. We had long talked about visiting the crappie capitol of U.S., we were not dissapointed. The owner, who was raised on the lake got us going with some great advice and then we caught dozens every day, no ice, no freezing cold - Wow! Our wives checked out local antiques and visted a local quilt musuem. Everybody in our group was focused on the things we enjoy. We'll return.

Third stay at this very relaxing cabin

Guest: John and Tertia (Lincoln, NH)
Date of Stay: 11/09/10 Review Submitted: 03/11/11

This was my second stay and my wife’s third stay at this cabin. Her first stay was by chance during a trip with her daughter. She talked about the cabin and setting so much we had to plan a trip so I could see it. I enjoyed it so much we came a second time. The cabin is so relaxing we didn’t move the car for 2 days except to go to dinner at a great catfish and BBQ place not far away. We never got tired of just sitting on the huge deck watching the water and the birds, eagles and all kinds of ducks fly by. Another favorite is sitting in the massage chair with a cup of coffee and one of the many books they have. A full size BBQ grill on the deck for making lunch and dinner is another excuse to hang out on the deck. The cabin is at the end of a paved road and beyond it is a dirt road through a wooded area that’s great for walks. They added a nice new covered aluminum dock right in front of the cabin. We don’t have a boat but we did spend time sitting at the water level for a different lake view. This dock would be so convenient if we did have a boat. After a couple visits the owners, Pam and Paul, feel like old friends. We invited them to join us for a BBQ one night and learn about the area. When we left we drove through the Land Between the Lakes to see the bison heard. You pay a few dollars to drive your car into a very large fenced in area on a mile or so long loop road and view the bison from your car at your own pace for as long as you want. We counted about 30 bison total in two groups. One walked right past the car 20 feet away. We got our fill of the craziness of Nashville then came here to the cabin to relax. We’ll be back.

Your cottage is WONDERFUL!! This is our first time renting anything on the lake, so I am guessing everything else will not be able to measure up to this standard. The view - the cottage decor - the clean housekeeping - the amenities - 1st RATE - 1st CLASS! I have spent many nights renting cabins, etc. in the Smokey Mts. Even at much more expensive rates - this cabin is one of the best I've seen. Thank you so much for sharing it with us.

Wonderful Fall Adventure!

Guest: Therese P. (Central IL)
Date of Stay: 10/04/10 Review Submitted: 03/10/11

Our visit in October 2010 was far more than we ever imagined. Being from IL, Kentucky Lake is convenient. However, while my husband is a fisherman and happy with a fishing camp, I am not. I wanted a place that was lovely, comfortable, with a beautiful view. "Our" cottage by the lake is exactly what we would build, if we were younger. It's beautifully furnished, perfectly sized for us two, and the expansive deck is perfect for bird watching, reading, and simply relaxing. Everything was as I would have had myself. We hope to return every Fall, health permitting. It's a perfect spot on a beautiful lake. Thanks, Pam, for all your attention to detail! Best wishes, Les & Teri

AMAZING COVERED BOAT DOCK!!

Guest: Pamela & Rick (Las Vegas, NV)
Date of Stay: 08/18/10 Review Submitted: 03/10/11

I'm so glad the owners have opened up the reviews on this place – I’ve wanted to write one since we left. This was truly one of the greatest vacations we’ve ever had, and we will surely go back! This trip was a last minute, spontaneous one, and we had no regrets. Needing a break from our hectic careers and the city we thought we’d make our first visit to KY Lake. The photos do not do this cottage justice; it’s really hard to describe just how special this place is! The location is private and peaceful. There is a brand new concrete boat launch a minute down the road. The architecture is top quality and the detail is just right: the cathedral ceiling in the living space and the high ceilings in the bedrooms create a real airy feeling. My nephew loved the downstairs bedroom, he had his own space and his own bathroom decorated with Ralph Lauren! The deck is off the charts, it is so huge and the water is so close. Yet the slope to the dock is extremely gentle – the dock is right there. Rick and our nephew were fishing off the dock and I could talk to them from the deck! I relaxed on a chaise lounge and finished three books while I was there from their amazing collection. So much thought has gone into the books: old classic and new hot releases. Most mornings we sat on the deck and watched the sun rise over the lake. In the evenings we’d have cocktails on the dock and appreciate that great view. We had wonderful dinners right off the huge, quality grill. Rick is an avid runner and was thrilled by the all of the great routes for running right there. We slept very well – thick padded mattresses and wonderful sheets! They didn’t even mention it on the site, but every cleaning supply I needed was provided; and saran, aluminum foil, etc. And, I have to say the owners were so great to work with. We booked at the last minute and they made the whole process so easy. All this, and I’m sure I’m leaving something out!

Thanks so much to the both of you for the wonderful stay at the cottage . . it was the most relaxing vacation we've taken in a long, long time. The cottage is just gorgeous and the boating location couldn't have been better . . .next to no boat traffic on the water, a gas pump/marina around the bend, and beautiful sunsets to cruise along to. What a beautiful property and such a perfect location for those looking to get away from the typical vacation hubbub of long waits, noisy guests in the next room, crowded facilities, screaming kids and all the rest. It really forced us to relax, and we needed it. We'll absolutely be recommending it to friends! Sincerely relaxed, Joe & Michelle

Best place to stay on Kentucky Lake!

Guest: Ashley & Larry (White House, TN)
Date of Stay: 06/06/10 Review Submitted: 03/10/11

We first stayed at this property in April of 2008. We have been back every year because of our first stay at the cottage was so relaxing. The views from the property are one of a kind. The minute you drive up the welcoming entrance to the property you see the beauty of the lake in front of you. We have even been lucky enough to watch a bald eagle in the tree right in front of us while sitting on the deck! The inside of the cottage is breathtaking. They really have paid attention to every detail. It is top of the line all the way. We really enjoyed the addition of the state of the art boat dock on our last trip in 2010. We fished from it, went swimming in the lake, and just enjoyed sitting on it relaxing. The owners of the property take pride in this cottage and the property. The city of Murray is just a few minutes away through the beautiful countryside if you need supplies or shopping. The bass fishing near the cottage is amazing! I would recommend this property to anyone looking for a getaway to Kentucky Lake, Murray, or Land Between the Lakes. You will not find a better view or accomodations on the lake! We will keep coming back every year because we feel so comfortable here! Thanks for the wonderful memories!

Not a plesant experience.

Guest: robert kelly (NORMAL, IL)
Date of Stay: 06/04/10 Review Submitted: 07/28/11

Well, this was my family's ONLY bad experience on vrbo.com. While the home was in good condition and as represented by the photographs, the experience was one I would not wish to have anyone experience. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the owners who gave us a 30 minute speech of do's and don't. Then, they annouced they were refusing to allow 4 adults and two small children to stay as the owners claimed their insurance would not cover 6 people. Since we were 8 hours from home, 2 adults from our party were forced to rent a hotel room 20 minutes away in Murray. The owners really were not forgiving as we knew the house had beds for 5 but the two little girls were planning to sleep on the floor on sleeping bags. Not sure why they were so strict, but it pretty much ruined the mood for us for the week. We will not return again. Hope your experience is better than ours if you take a chance and choose to rent here.

Owner response:Thank you for sharing that you found our property to be in good condition and as the photos represented it to be on VRBO, that is greatly appreciated. As we receive feedback from the cottage’s repeat guests, one of the most frequent comments is they come back so often for the relaxation they value during visits. We were pleased to greet you, your wife, and two 10-year old girls (a party of four), as we do all of our guests upon arrival. Yes, as we were leaving you all and two additional adult visitors were arriving to join your party, we did bring to your attention that more than 5 guests staying on would not be possible. Since we first posted the cottage listing on VRBO.com in 2007 its description has consistently had as its first line “Maximum Occupancy is Five Guests”, as based on its design that is the greatest number of guests that makes for a comfortable vacation there. With a focus on comfort, when responding to initial inquiries and in the occupancy agreement we confirm the maximum occupancy is five. As has been shared in this review, the cottage has beds for 5 guests - two queen beds, and a single twin. The furniture in the living area is ideal for 5 guests also. There are many wonderful features about the property and KY Lake that make for a fantastic trip. Physical comfort has a great effect on ensuring a high quality vacation. As we have continually shared, we welcome the opportunity to have the cottage visited and enjoyed by vacationers with a party of 5 or less.

Just want to say thanks for your hospitality! We can't speak highly enough of your cottage. It is beautifully decorated, very comfortable and welcoming. You thought of everything one would need to make it a home away from home and we will highly recommend your place to others. It is unfortunate that it was not the best week weather wise for fishing/ boating, but the fishing Bob did get in was impressive enough to entice us to come back! We only hope that we will be able to book your cottage again as I imagine you will have no shortage of guests waniting to stay at your lovely place. Best regards.

Only thing nice about this place is the cabin

Took our Bennington tritoon with us because we were told they had a covered boat dock. What they had was a rotten piece of wood with some tires tied to it. We were told we could launch from the property. We could if we wanted to go down a gravel goat hill filled with 1-2 feet deep holes. They said they had a third bedroom (guess you could call it a bedroom). You have to out and around the back to get to it. Wouldn't want to use it for kids...SCARY.

Owner response:At the time that this guest stayed, July '09, we indicated on our site and in any communication with any customer that we had a "boat dock" available for guests to use. At the time it was 400 ft. from the cottage, on a neighboring property. Recently, in the summer of 2010, we installed a new covered boat dock. As soon as it was installed, and for the first time, we posted on our page that we have a covered dock adjacent to the cottage and put up photos of it. Also, since this guest's stay, we have obtained access for our visitors to use a new concrete boat ramp two minutes from the cottage. From the time that we were first on VRBO and since, we have consistently stated that the third bedrooom has a "seperate entrance". Guests step out the main entrance of the cottage, go down a flight of stairs, and enter this accommodation. Whenever an inquiring guest has a very young child in their party, we make it clear that it is appropriate for adolescents and adults. We have had many guests happily stay there and enjoy having an additional full bath as part of the accommodation.

The cottage is so beautiful! We REALLY enjoyed our stay! We watched the sunrise & set. We went to the LBL Elk & Bison Prarie. We saw a baby bison that was born on Sunday! The beauty of God's creation was all around us! It was awesome to enjoy! Thank you so much for the opportunity to enjoy our 20th at such an awesome cottage on the lake! Thanks!!

Amazing Cabin on the Lake

My first visit was in May of 2008. My daughter and I were driving across country and spent two nights at this place. The views waking up in the morning were of eagles soaring over the lake, so peaceful and scenic. We loved the decor of the cabin, big comfy beds, nothing rustic about it. It even had a big screen TV and super relaxing massage chair, I was in heaven. The cabin had everything we needed, even a washer & dryer. We spent a day at Land Between The Lakes viewing the bison and the elk, the bison walked right in front of our car. We found this place very convenient to town, lots of places to eat within an easy drive, yet when at the lake you feel you are really away from it all. I have since been back two more times and love the new covered dock they put in, nice place to sit and watch the wildlife.

Thank you for the use of your beautiful cottage. We loved just being there. You are both so nice. I love all the litttle touches in the house and I am a "Small things noticer". The wrens arrived early and we appreciated their welcome. Thank you.

THANK YOU!! Our stay was very nice and relaxing. The cottage is VERY comfortable - beautifully decorated and the beds all sleep VERY WELL. The effort you've put into making the cottage a luxurious getaway really shows. Thanks again!
