My husband and I spent two great months at Casa Roja this year and found it to be a lovely and very comfortable place to stay. When we arrived we found a lovely bouquet of flowers on the table and a copy of the English newspaper Attencion listing activities in the town. The owners, Jane and Paul, were most welcoming and extremely helpful in acquainting us with the town, places to shop, restaurants, etc. The first day Paul drove us to the grocery store so we could stock up on staples and then to his favorite bakery. Jane and Paul were always available to answer our questions or visit. We shared large bags of oranges, DVDs, and a couple of enjoyable dinners on the town. The apartment was well taken care of and it had lovely mosaics on the walls made by Jane. It had a fully stocked kitchen, a comfortable living area with numerous books to read, a notebook of SMA sites, and a nice rooftop to look out over the city for a great view. The large shower always provided nice hot water, the washer and dryer were conveniently near our bedroom, and a lovely courtyard with waterfall outside our door was just like the pictures on the web site. The many plants in the courtyard made it a very relaxing atmosphere. Casa Roja is located in a pleasant residential neighborhood among friendly locals. We enjoyed staying here very much The walk to town took about 20 minutes, the same to the Mega grocery, with small local grocers near-by. We can recommend Casa Roja without reservation.

This fabulous home provides a tranquil relaxing experience while being close enough to enjoy all of the sights of historic San Miguel. The photos on this VRBO site do not do the place justice as they cannot capture the beautiful light as you sit outside in the courtyard and enjoy the garden and waterfall. The setting and decor of the home combine the best of local artisans and the artist owner's beautiful pieces. The owners, Jane and Paul, are extraordinarily helpful and welcoming and provided lots of helpful suggestions on places to visit and dine. We have rented 8 VRBO places in the past couple of years and this is by far our favorite home away from home. We look forward to returning to La Casa Roja in the near future.

I stayed at Casa Roha with my husband and 10 year old son. We always rent vacation rentals and have a few of our own so we are pretty particular. Frankly, I was absolutely stunned when I arrived. The pictures didn't capture the actual beauty of the place. It is lush and quiet and somehow they hit the perfect balance of beauty, Mexican flavor and comfort in an eclectic style that was at times breath taking ! The owners have TONS of plants everywhere and you just feel so happy to be there! If you rent the upstairs unit the views from the roof deck are tremendous!! I was up EVERY morning to watch the the sunrise over the valley...a spirit altering experience!! The owners have huge pots with flowering plants overflowing, fantastic, mosaic everywhere (no Home Depot here!) and all around a lovely mix of Mexican flavor and European comfort. The courtyard was one of our favorite spots to sit and read or talk. Very romantic! So relaxing! (though my son made plenty of noise running around it at times!) And we loved walking to the Center which took about 12 minutes. Jane and Paul were great! They were helpful with answering our many questions about where to go, (guiding us to out of the way markets, and hot baths}, how to go, what was the best this or that ecc.. They also gave us complete privacy. It was the perfect balance of knowing there was help available if we needed but they were never hovering. I gladly recommend Casa Roha! We hope to return again next spring. I promise, YOU WILL LOVE IT!!

Owner response: Thank you for the review, Meg! Our upstairs apartment is available only in the summer, but guests renting the downstairs apartment still have access to the roof terrace - not a problem even if the upstairs apartment is occupied.

We have stayed at this location twice and have enjoyed the hospitality and amenities immensely. Everything you need is available in the apartment and Paul and Jane (the owners) are great people to guide you through getting around San Miguel and planning your activities. Very relaxed, enjoyable place to stay. We are headed back for a 3rd stay in the next year!

We are just completing our third year of spending a month at Casa Roja. That should sum up how we feel about our home away from home. The hosts are excellent and the quarters are extremely comfortable and pleasant. Since the house is quite new, all the 'systems' are in great working order(not always the case in MX). One of the nicest advantages is having the lovely guest room available for our friends at a most reasonable cost. Also, the location is superior---the distance from El Jardin makes for a healthy walk each day and provides for a quiet night's sleep. Added bonuses are the restful and spacious well-planted garden and the beautiful view of the sunset over the mountains. Many thanks to our hosts who have designed such a wonderful abode in a magical town!

We have stayed in San Miguel de Allende several times, in Calle Reloj, San Antonio, Los Frailes and... in "Casa Roja". "Casa Roja" is without any doubt the best place to stay, we keep coming back (this is already our 3th time). The house is very beautiful and has all the luxuries you need (incl. a long distance phone with "free" calls). It's not in the centre but a short walk takes you to the Instituto and the heart of San Miguel. The location is very convenient to go to the Tuesday market as well since there is a busstop in front. The owners are extremely helpful and friendly and make us feel at home. Paul and Jane you can give our email address to anyone who might be interested in renting your home in the future and we will give it our highest recommendation ! Thanks for everything. When I travel all the way to a foreign country I want to make sure the place I am staying at is clean, nicely furnished and makes me feel good to be there. I can say without a doubt that this place is a gem! We stayed for a month and everyday was a delight to wake up to. The kitchen and living room are wonderful with really cute furnishings and a big dining table. Having the TV in there with cable channels and movies was great at night. Our bedroom was really spacious and comfortable and the adjoining bathroom was adorable with its handmade tiles and sinks. Plus it had a GREAT shower with lots of hot water (not always the case in Mexico). There is a fountain in the beautifully landscaped courtyard right outside all the rooms with a patio dining area. There is a grocery store around the corner and a vegetable stand on the weekend. We walked to town every day and to dinner every night with no problem. This was the perfect place to stay and we plan to come back often. It is an amazing value. -Rogene Manas, Eugene, OR
