Location: Monte Pego, Valencia, Spain, Europe (70 Minute Drive from Either Valencia or Alicante Airports)
Accommodations: Villa, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths (Sleeps 6)
Superbly appointed 3-bed, 2-bath villa with AC and Private Pool Monte Pego Denia Costa Blanca Spain. Superb views over orange groves to mountains/sea.
We choose Monte Pego because it is removed from overrun costal areas and yet it is only a 15 minute drive to the beach. The beach is 15 miles long and the part we like is near Oliva Nova Golf Course. Here it is quiet with plenty of space. The villa was built for us and we took possession in Spring 2003. The more we have used it the more we like the peace and quiet and the area in general.
The views are incredible and in particular the evening sunset. Below in the valley are the orange groves and paddy fields - yes, rice! In the distance, on one side you have the mountains, and on the other you are looking out over the sea.
To sit out on the terrace in the evening with the sun setting over the mountains and a glass of wine nearby is so perfect!
Much is written about the superb climate of the Costa Blanca. Generally speaking, the summers are slightly cooler and less humid than the Costa Del Sol, with the winters dryer, less windy and sunnier. Besides having a glorious year-round climate, wonderful light, and brilliantly clear sky at night, this area is described by the World Health Organization as having "one of the most environmentally perfect climates in the world."
There is a bank at the entrance to Monte Pego.
You need a car! We provide towels and linen except beach towels - please bring your own.
Activities:
35 minutes by car will take you to the wonderful theme park of Terra Mitica or to the water park - Aqualandia.
There is also a very good Safari Park near Monte Pego.
There are numerous golf courses in the area, from the very best championship courses - Oliva Nova, designed by Seve himself to more modest 9-hole courses.
Valencia is well worth a day out especially the Science/Water World Park. It is also good for shopping - especially for shoes.
Shopping and Eating:
There are 3 restaurants/bars in Monte Pego. When you leave Monte Pego there are restaurants and bars in every town or hamlet - so many that you could not start to list them here!
Denia is about 10 miles away and is an attractive castle town and has a wealth of good quality shops, bars and restaurants offering a wide range of international and Spanish cuisine. There are regular local fiestas when the town bursts into a riot of music, fireworks and spectacular street parades. There's the busy seafront, with its many bars and nightlife, and the bustling fishing and ferry port, where you can catch a boat to any of the Balearic Islands.
