Firstly, the owner was very accommodating on very short notice. And finding the house ready on such short notice, indicates just how much the owners keep up the property. The location is on a pleasant street with easy walk to centro. The house itself is very organized and extremely comfortable. With arthritis inflicted hips, it is hard for me to find a comfortable bed in Mexico, but here is one. In fact, the coziness and hominess of the house really stand out. This is definitely a home, not a rental property. All first night necessities are provided. Later, there are little shops nearby to get what you need.

Everything was great. The property was extremely clean and the maid comes twice a week to keep it that way. Excellent layout for a family or two couples to share as the two bedrooms each have their own private bath. And having a partial bath on the main floor saves running up the stairs. Lots of small tiendas nearby to pick up water, soft drinks, little things. Had a great time.

We stayed ar this house with our three school-aged children. It was a flat 20-minute walk to their Spanish classes at Centro Mexicano. The house was comfortable and clean. We loved the roof-top terrace. We had our car and found that the location was also great for trips to the hot springs.

My husband and I and another couple stayed at this lovely house for one week in January 2012. We liked the location - a nice, fairly quiet and friendly neighborhood. Jose and family who owned the little store nearby were sweet and always remembered our names. The walk to centro was always interesting and not too far. The house was comfortable, nicely decorated and well set up with everything we could need and more, well kept and very clean. Lisa the owner was very easy to deal with. We loved San Miguel...enjoyed listening to Pedro Cartas and Band at the restaurant Hecho En Mexico (they play Thurs, Fri, Sat and you need reservations). We also played golf at Ventenas (2 for 1 Mondays and Tuesdays) just a short cab ride. We would definitely stay there again as it was a great place to stay at a great price.

We rented for a month last fall, had our daughter and her husband come join us for Day of the Dead. The location is great, close enough for an easy walk to the Jardin but still in a predominantly Mexican neighborhood which is what we wanted. Great views from the upper patio. We live fulltime in Mexico and are used to the 'sounds' of Mexico. While Lisa indicated that there can be times that it's noisy we found it very quiet, just the normal everyday sounds of life in Mexico. This was our third trip to SMA and with the flat walk to centro, the ease of entering and exiting SMA due to the location and the good condition of the house and surroundings we had a very enjoyable visit.

Sept in San Miguel offers a nice respite from the heat back home and this house offers everything you need to feel at home. You can feel the love the owners put into the making this home a comfortable escape. Cushy couches for snuggling with provided blankets. The upstairs terrace has areas to sit and look at the expansive 180 degree views of the surrounding area...you can see the main church in the square. Nearby small market was nice to have for small necessities. We would walk half way to the square and then grab a cab for the rest so as to save our energy for exploring the town. Walking feels so safe at anytime of the night or day. Peeking into the courtyards of the restaurants and hotels is fun to check out the decor and design. We took a narrated walking tour one day (visited many churches) and rented an ATV to do further exploring and it was a bit confusing driving on the one way streets but basically easy getting around. Also took the opportunity to visit the nearby Unesco towns of Deloris Hildalgo & Gunajauto. All in all this house was a comfortable and convenient base to everything. We hope to return some day soon.

My folks' first trip to San Miguel together. This house was comfortable, and they felt at home, with enough of the amenities that people from the U.S. are accustomed to. The walk to town is not too long (for folks who like gentle and frequent walks, as my parents do). The property is crisp and clean, and yet homey (the big red couches in the living room are great!). Proximity to Via Organica and Media Naranja (organic food store and restaurant, and restaurant, respectively) a plus. The terrace and view also a plus.
Owner response:So glad your parents had a great anniversary trip and were happy with our home.

Pros - This is a beautiful home in a perfect location. It's away from the noise of the center but only about a 10 minute walk into town. Beautiful view from the top of the terrace. Nice kitchen to cook in. Hot water in the showers. Cons-The remotes didn't seem to match up to the tv's so we couldn't watch our movies we had brought with us, and the mattress on the bed was one of the most uncomfortable I have ever slept on. Hard as a rock. Had to sleep in the twin beds to get a good nights sleep.
Owner response:Sounds like someone mixed up the remotes between the machines as we have never had this complaint before (could have been moved from the proper room) but all booklets and codes are in bottom drawer in kitchen or maybe they needed batteries (can always call property management). Or at last resort maybe the remotes were bad - if so we do have new ones available. The bed has a memory foam matress so if you took off the memory foam - then Yes, the bed is hard. We have slept on some horrible rock hard beds traveling in 30 + countries and believe me this is not one of them. The memory foam may be a more firm than what you are used to but it is not rock hard.

We loved staying at this casa! The information provided was thoroughly accurate. The house was clean and the bi-weekly maid-service was much appreciated. She even did our laundry! The owner was extremely helpful with questions we had and she provided detailed suggestions for things to do in the area. It was a little cold at night, but the gas fireplaces and extra blankets kept us cozy and warm. All the things we needed were provided with the house. The rooftop patio is quiet, peaceful and lovely. We loved visiting the nearby mercado and our family enjoyed the statues and beautiful vegetation in Parque Juarez on the other side of town. Our family of four will definitely revisit La Casa Sonriente again in the future.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Lisa's villa in San Miguel de Allende last October 09. She has a beautiful home, and you can see all of the caring details that have gone into making it that way. As one two out of three of us felt a bit under the weather on our trip, we definitely appreciated having a comfortable place to stay!Definitely recommend it!

I spend the month of August, 09 at Casa de la Luna Soriente and enjoyed the stay very much. The home is well equipped in all ways. The area around the house is filled with small tienda's and places to eat -- places where locals eat and shop. Having the Vonage phone and WiFi was a big plus for me, but best of all is the rooftop patio. I enjoyed the patio each morning and evening. I will stay there again.

Review Rating : 4/5 Stay: Jan – March, 2010 We stayed at Casa Luna Sonriente (smiling moon) January, February and March of 2010. It is situated in the barrio of Guadaloupe north of el Jardin (the center). As advertised, it is a flat walk of 10 to 15 minutes to the center which may be relevant to non mountain climbers as San Miguel is located on the side of a mountain declining from east to west. For those unfamiliar with San Miguel be advised that restaurants abound and there are many a mere 10 minutes walk south. In the immediate neighbourhood try Gombos a pizza delivery joint which also has a small dining area with a limited but excellent Italian menu. One of our favourites was Vivoli on Hernandez Macias opposite Bellas Artes. Say hola to Rita for us. There are at least three tiendas within a couple of minutes for access to those valencia oranges to squeeze for breakfast. Or if you prefer someone else to do your squeezing try Buenos Dias on Relox just north of the biblioteca (library). We found the casa to be very comfortable and well taken care of by Elena who thoroughly cleans every Monday and Friday. It is typically Mexican with boveda ceilings in both bedrooms and a center hall plan with the living room separated from the dining room and kitchen. It has all the amenities including TV’s in both bedrooms and living room. The portable Ipod station with speakers can be transported to the roof deck to provide music while you sip your margarita or cerveca while absorbing the view of sunsets or the lighted domes and steeples of chuches and cathedrals. You may reach into the fridge on the roof to replenish your beverage without having to move too far. This was our third trip to San Miguel and it didn’t disappoint. The local folks, the cultural events, the restaurants and the seemingly endless festivals and celebrations make this a special place.

We stayed at the casa from late on Oct 24 to early on Nov 2. The location was so easy to Centro and the Jardin and the Parroquia - we walked it many times. The casa was wonderful; it had all of the amenties and some stores just down the street and around the corner to get fresh squeezed OJ and staples like water, eggs and milk. The bed was firm and the rooftop had wonderful views of Centro and the Parroquia. We really enjoyed our stay and highly recommend the Casa de la Luna. The casa was clean and had everything you would need to live there. Elena, the maid, was wonderful and kept everything sparkling. If you're interested in going to a restaurant that isn't a gringo specialty, try the restaurant El Correo which is just down Correo street from the Parroquia; we went three times in our short time there. It's a 9 table restaurant with great mexican food. You won't regret it.

Very comfortable neighborhood. Quiet but with stores in close proximity. All amenities you could need. The fireplaces were especially welcome at night. Although it was a longer walk to the Centro (we had small kids so it mattered), it was relatively flat and we appreciated leaving the city when it was time to go home. As a family, we also appreciated everyone having their own bathroom! Would recommend for families, especially with older children.
Owner response:probably seemed like a longer walk with the kids : )

A)Casa Luna Sonriente is a great value B)It is truly in the colonial style C)CLS is in fact a flat 10-12 minutes to the jardin. My friend and I had a great time at the casa, even though it was an usually cold week in November we could warm up beside all those wonderful fireplaces and watch TV in almost every room! Even though we didn't cook, one could as the kitchen is fully equipped. Lots of warm water and great water pressure was also a bonus. The neighborhood was quiiet by San Miguel standards, very safe with friendly neighbors. We walked after dark may times and felt completely secure. Perhaps our favorite thing was the Vonage phone to keep in touch with the states. And the pigeons on the wonderful roof deck NEVER bothered us (guess they were too busy looking at the Parrochia, or amazing sunsets, too)! We'll be back.....

This was a beautiful place to stay! I have spent time in San Miguel five different times, and this house was my favorite place to stay by far. The roof top patio was an amazing place to be every morning with coffee and a book and every night with a glass of wine and great conversation with the two women who travelled with me. We all felt very comfortable in such a beautiful and clean home with all the extra perks like wi-fi and the vonage phone and a washer and dryer. Thanks Lisa!

A girlfriend and I spent the month of April '09 in San Miguel de Allende. Our stay was very enjoyable, due in no small part to the recommendations and assistance of Lisa, the owner of Casa de la Luna Soriente. The casa is lovely and exceeded our expectations. We particularly appreciated the Vonage wifi and toll free long distance to the States. We felt very safe in the neighborhood and appreciated the friendliness of our neighbors and the fact that we were in a real "Mexican" part of town. A tienda is directly across the street for snacks and supplies and don't miss the fresh squeezed orange juice. The jardin (main city square)is a 20 or so minute walk....enough to give us a little exercise to work off all the good food. We throughly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend Casa de la Luna Soriente.

My wife and I stayed at the Casa de Luna for the full month of March 09 and truly enjoyed the house : with its boveda ceilings and tiled kitchen and floors, it has a mexican feel. The center of SMA is a pleasant 10-12 minute walk and allows one to explore many of the streets leading to the center ofSMA. The covered patio on t he 3rd floor is a plus and well worth the most reasonable rental rate. The pigeons are a bit of a nuisance but the twice wekly maid service keeps the house impeccably clean. I have recommended to my friends and will likely return in the near future - make sure to reserve early

We spent 2 weeks in this lovely, instantly comfortable home. We had everything we needed--wireless internet, local phone, very comfortable beds, great bathroom upstairs and down and a beautiful terrace for entertaining friends (and hanging our laundry!). The neighbors were friendly--at the little tiendita on the corner and the lunch cafe across the street. The location made it easy to buy groceries nearby and walk to anywhere in the city. We'd return in a minute!

I thoroughly enjoyed this marvelous 3 level house! Everything I needed, including Verizon service, was there. It was "homey" and relaxing. Comfortable beds and a strong shower were a plus. The house was just up the hill from the noisier center and made for good exploring of the local neighborhoods. I felt safe night and day. The price was the best for alot of space and a great view from the rooftop!! Go go go:)))
Owner response:Actually it is not up the hill, we are north of the jardin and east of the jardin is up the hill. There is a slight incline though. (owners)

We were here in August and enjoyed our stay. The home is nicely furnished and comfortable. It was very nice having a half bath off the living room. We enjoyed morning coffee and wonderful views from the third-floor terrace. Having WiFi was also a wonderful convenience. We drove from Sarasota and appreciated having secure off-street parking. The hosts allowed dogs, which was one of our requirements. Being 15 minutes from the Jardin assures you of getting good exercise. You need good walking shoes in San Miguel, no matter where you stay. You will enjoy this Mexican home.

Everything the previous writer has said is accurate -- great location, great neighborhood, with schools, tiendas, and restaurants nearby. An easy 10-15 minute walk to the Jardin. It is a very spacious two-bedroom house, great for two couples, two singles or a small family. Would definitely stay there again on future visits to San Miguel!

Casa de la Luna Sonriente is a new, clean, and pleasant two-bedroom home. The bedrooms are of a good size, with beautiful bodega ceilings, and face either onto the street or onto an interior breezeway, so there's plenty of light. There's a great view from the rooftop patio - both of the Paroquia, and of the western city and landscape. As advertised, this home is a good 15-minute walk to the Jardin (we often took a taxi home), but if you focus too much on downtown, you'll miss some of this neighborhood's best features. It's only five minutes to the artisan's walk (Andador Lucas Balderas) and to the "Media Naranja" which is a great breakfast spot, and a few minutes further to the main market. In the opposite direction, a five-minute walk gets you to Av.Guadalupe and another great local market. If you're interested in the Aurora - with its galleries and it's excellent cafe - then take the "back way" by going east on Cielito Lindo and then up Cancion India. Again, it's only five minutes - something we didn't realize till our last day in SMA. The cleaning and service at this home are excellent, and Lisa and Mark - the home's owners - are an absolute pleasure to deal with.
