We loved our time at R&Ds place. It was exactly as advertised, except that the oven didnt work. Everything else was splendid, especially the hot tub we enjoyed each evening, as it does get chilly up there...~50s at night. Ron and Debra were very pleasant and helpful in sorting out what to do while there. The budda-nature of the grounds gave it a very peaceful feeling. Down a long tree covered lane its a bit tricky to find, but very much worth it. We would stay there again.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Dear Debra & Ron, We have thoroughly enjoyed ourselves in your lovely unit. We particularly appreciate "you"; your warm hospitality, warm clothing for star show, map of Hilo and guidance to extraodinary experiences, like the local Hula show, which remains a highlight in our take-away. We also appreciate & enjoy the many features of this place, peace, quiet, nature, and thoughtful amenities. In friendship, Jeanne & BillDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

I actually stayed here longer than a year ago, and we're looking at heading back that way for another vacation and I HAD to locate this listing to check the availability! I came with a friend who was stationed at Kaneohe Bay on Oahu and we had such an amazing time. The pictures of this place simply do NOT do it justice... the gardens are amazing. I have an image of a small rock that I found in one of Debra's flowerbeds that said "Namaste" that I have hanging in my bedroom still. :) The artwork is just an added touch and things like the towel heaters in the bathroom are touches you simply would not get in a commercial room! We loved it and I can't wait to bring my boyfriend to enjoy it with me!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

When my husband and I arrived, he immediately said, "this place has made our entire trip worthwhile." Indeed! An absolutely charming rainforest hideaway. So comfortable and well-appointed. We could want for nothing. Thank-you, thank-you (or should I say MAHALO!) Linda & Dave, Ft. Davis, TX P.S. Saw 6 ne'-ne' on the golf course, just as you described, Debra. YEAH! Great tip.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This cottage was wonderful and far exceeded our expectations. Everything was spotlessly clean and the decorating is charming. The natural wood and other items created a warm and inviting atmosphere. The cottage is filled with thoughtful things for us to use. Thank you Deb and Boy for making our time here so enjoyable. We will miss the quiet and beauty of our private rain forest.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We have traveled together for 14 years, and this is our favorite place we have ever stayed! We both felt deeply nourished by the native forest and touched by the sweetness of this little cozy house. We adored the hot tub and walking in the neighborhood, too. Mahalo nui loa, L&K, Kaneohe, HIDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We spent 4 nights in the cottage and found it to be very nice and relaxing. Tucked under the Hapu'u tree ferns and Ohi'a a lehua trees, the morning was alive with birds -- mostly 'Apapane twittering and whirring in the sky. This is a great "base camp" for exploring Volcanoes National Park. Coming back from a night time visit to Pele at Kilauea (a must do) and sitting in the hot tub under the tree ferns and a full moon was mystical. The hosts are very nice - welcoming and helpful but unobtrusive. They have festooned the grounds with "art-y-facts" that are fun to discover. Nice touches such as warm bathrobes for the hot tub, a heated towel rack and an eclectic music collection by the cd player. No TV (a plus) but an excellent wireless connection if you must stay in the real world. The cottage is small but well-appointed -- the gas fireplace and electric blanket were very welcome on 40* nights. If you plan to do your own cooking, rather than trying the excellent restaurants in the area, keep it simple. The fridge space is limited and the stove top is small. We plan to return next year, maybe for the Merrie Monarch Festival.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Mahalo Jim and Sue for taking the time to write your great review. We were so pleased to share our rainforest with you folks from Alaska and find fellow appreciators of all that nature offers. That your stay at Boy and Debra's Place added to your enjoyment of this unique part of the world, makes our day! We look forward to your return. And so glad to share the fun "art-y-facts" on the grounds. With much Aloha, Debra & Boy

We stayed 5 nights (May 7-11) at this cute, adorable and comfortable accommodation amidst ferns that grow higher than the cottage itself. The hosts were very gracious, interesting, artistic and delightful people. Debra is a very talented artist who had an art show in Downtown Hilo, which was fun to visit. This is in a great central location to the Volcanoes National Park, Hilo and the Puna Coast area. The hot tub was an added bonus. We ate 3 dinners at the excellent Kiawe Kitchen nearby, and one good dinner at the Lava Rock Cafe.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Aloha Claire and Rich, Thank you so much for taking the time to write your lovely note. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay. We feel so grateful to live in the serenity of the rainforest and are pleased to share it. And as you could see at the art show, its beauty is a source of inspiration! Aloha, Debra & Boy

Ron & Debra, We had a special time for our 5 days here in our rainforest cottage-so beautiful and peaceful. The nightly hot tub soak...devine! Thanks to Debra and Ron for being gracious, unpretentious and attentive yet laid-back hosts. We love the artisitic touches to the cottage and grounds and will proudly hang our newly acquired Debra Serrao original painting.
