This real log cabin was designed to take advantage of the views with multiple decks and lots of glass/picture windows. Much of the furniture is custom built, including the log pool table in the loft level game room with spectacular views. Wheelchair accessible via outdoror ramp to lower level gets you to the air hockey table and lower level bedrooms.

The cabin is decorated in a Smoky Mountain wildlife theme, with lots of bears and raccoons. The centerpiece of the Great Room and loft is a two story wildlife sculpture!

DSL/wireless internet means you can bring your laptop and stay connected -- though you may prefer to sit out on one of 5 decks and feel the peace. This cabin is very private - nothing but views on three sides, and lots of room on the 4th side. The two back decks (facing the spectacular valley/mountain/sunset view) leave you feeling alone and at one with the universe.

The first floor has a full kitchen, great room with gas fireplace, huge picture windows, master bedroom and large bathroom with lots of counter space and roll-in shower. Satellite HDTVs in the great room, game room, rec room and 1st floor master bedroom. The back deck has rockers, swing and a hot tub.

The lower level has another master suite. This bedroom has a Jacuzzi tub in addition to the walk-in shower in private bath. It is wheelchair accessible by ramp from the outside. The 'third' bedroom is a combination recreation room with an air hockey table and TV with Wii. The beds here are a full over queen log bunk bed. There is a 2nd bathroom on this level - large with a bathtub/shower.

The cabin has a small yard and playground. There is an animal path beyond the playground that leads to the very top of Cove Mountain, about a mile up. The elevation at Above the Clouds is at least 2,332 feet, but no worries: this cabin is not a cliff hanger.

There is a boardwalk that takes you over to the swimming pool that is shared by only 8 cabins. The boardwalk itself is another great viewing spot of the valley and mountains!

Just six miles away is the Wears Valley entrance to the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. Take this scenic drive to get to Gatlinburg or Cades Cove. Pigeon Forge is also easy to drive to with all of its shopping, restaurants and entertainment, but you may find that you want to spend some days and evenings at home, since there will be plenty to do right here. Wears Valley is known as 'the peaceful side of the Smokies.' Come be our guest and restore your soul.

My family stayed at this cabin to celebrate my husband's 40th birthday. The cabin has an awesome view with comfortale rocking chairs. My children (7yrs. & 5 yrs.) LOVED the playground. The cabin was clean and Connie was very easy to work with. She even left a birthday card for my husband! You can tell the owners care about their cabin and it is not just one in a big group. I would highly recommend this cabin!

Recommended for: People with disabilities, families with young children.

Owner response: Our guests really did write this, not me (Connie Hartke). We love hearing that you enjoyed the cabin and views and playground so much. I'll be there next month with my grandchildren (2, 4 & 12 with another 13 year old friend) and we can't wait!! The 12 year old has been going there since he was 5 and he is looking forward to showing his friend the mountain.

Even though we only got to stay one night we were very impressed by this beautiful cabin. Very clean!! Very comfortable!! Beautifully decorated and amazing view. We were looking for a quiet weekend and didn't want to be in the craziness of Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge. This place was perfect. Loved the location. We will be back with our family. Thanks Connie for a great stay.

Just now getting around to posting about our visit August 4th - 11th of this year (2012). This was out 5th time to the cabin and as always, it was a wonderful stay. My family and I love this cabin! It did manage to rain every day we were there this year, but we still enjoyed our stay. We were able to get out a little in between the showers with our granddaughter and her friend that went with us. And there was a couple of late afternoons they were able to go to the pool. As always we had a great vacation at the cabin, and we never get tired of the view. It is always so beautiful. But I have to say that the highlight of this trip was the opportunity to get to meet Ms Connie and Mr Paul (owners) in person. They are great people and Jack and I did so enjoy spending that short evening with them. It was great to meet them! This is a wonderful cabin and lots of things close around to do, if that is what you want. Jack and I just enjoy the cabin and sitting in the swing looking at the view. We do so love our visits to "Above the Clouds" cabin, and we will be back in the fall next year if at all possible.

Beautiful cabin. We had ages 7 to 88 and all had a great time. We picked fresh blueberries and blackberries. Very steep drive is the only negative comment I can make. I would return in a heartbeat.

Excellent cabin for anyone wanting the best views of the valley and hiking straight into the park from your front door. Cabin was clean and very functional. Owner was very helpful and accessible for questions. Would recommend this cabin rental to anyone desiring a Smokies experience.

This cabin is truly accessible for the wheelchair user. It is beautiful, clean, wonderful views, peaceful, comfortable beds, good mountain water, wonderful bathrooms, words cannot decribe our vacation. It is on a mountain ridge so the trip up and down is an adventure and I would definitely recommend your first time to go in daylight. We drove a Buick LeSabre with a wheelchair car top carrier with automatic transmission. We put it in 2nd and 1st gear and had no problems, but we would not attempt this drive in the winter without a 4 wheel drive and we didn't feel comfortable driving the mountains in the dark but we are from Michigan. It is so worth the trip. The drive to Tennessee was beautiful. When you get to the cabin you really do not need to go anywhere else. But if you do there is plenty of variety for the tourist attractions to the mountain sceneries and very wheelchair accommodating. The wheelchair user cannot get into the upper loft but it really wasn't an issue with my family. Townsend is the quieter part of this area and is very wheelchair friendly, has a nice grocery store (IGA) and other attractions if you don't want to get into the traffic of Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. We ate at the cabin and at several restaurants and never ran into an issue with the wheelchair. We have stayed at other "wheelchair accessible" places and this one was the first one that really was truly a delight. We will go back. Thank you Connie & Paul for this Above the Clouds cabin. P.S. Connie you were right there were no mosquitos they were waiting for us when we got home. We did not run into any bears or racoons during our stay.

Owner response: Wears Valley is called the "Jewel of the Smokies" for good reason! And we're glad you spent time in Townsend, the "Peaceful Side of the Smokies." That's our favorite destination too, after the National Park.

My family stayed at this cabin for 4 nights. We chose it because of its handicap accessibility. It was a beautiful vacation. The cabin is beautiful inside and out with plenty of room for everyone. The rocking chairs and hot tub on the main level balcony provided soothing stress release. The cabin is the highest on the mountain. There are 4 other nearby cabins, so it is not totally secluded. However, we didn't hear anyone else while we were there. I think everyone wanted the same level of privacy and quiet. We saw a bald eagle soaring just above us one day, and every morning, the valley below is covered in the Smoky Mountain mist. There are amazing views from all corners of this cabin. The kitchen is fully equipped. For handicapped, this cabin met our needs--gripper bars around the toilet could have been better placed. You can find our family pictures on the "Above the Clouds" Facebook page. Enjoy.

The beauty of this place cannot be adequately described in words or pictures. My family just returned from 4 days. Fall colors are coming alive. We saw a Bald Eagle, golden eagles, and amazing views of the mountains and valley below. Now I know why it's called "Above the Clouds."

It's such a beautiful cabin with very cute and creative details. There is so much room with lots to do in the cabin. Plenty of room for a family of 7 to get lost. We had so much fun at that cabin, I never want to leave! Today we are going into town but I look forward to coming back to the cabin.

I just wanted to thank you for a awesome cabin. It was everything that was advertised and more. While we did not actually "see" a bear I do believe that was had a visit one morning! My 6 y/o decided to make a plan he told be to buy two jars of honey and a big role of duct tape. When asked why he said so we could catch the bear and take it home! lol Yeah had to do a little education about bear safety there! Thanks again for the great cabin and we look forward to visiting again.

                      Owner info

                      Year Purchased: 2007

About the owner: Connie & Paul Hartke own several vacation rental properties. Connie manages our two cabins in the Smoky Mountains and runs our online real estate school. Paul co-owns a very busy real estate company in Northern Virginia and is our school instructor. We reside on Lake Audubon in Reston, VA with our 6 pound Burmese cat.

Why the Owner Chose Wears Valley:
The Views. Come see and you will understand. We fell in love with the Great Smoky Mountain National Park and bought our first cabin, Eagles View, in 2005. Above the Clouds was purchased in 2006. We love the friendly people in the area and hiking in the park. Both cabins were destroyed in a fire in March 2007, so we rebuilt and were renting again by Thanksgiving. We visit several times a year to hike to a new waterfall and keep our cabins in A+ shape.

The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
'Above the Clouds' has a unique central beam with wildlife carvings by a local artist. The cabin is truly wheelchair accessible, including the lower level game room! Located 1/2 hour or less from Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge (10 miles), Sevierville and Townsend. Less than a 10 minute drive to the Smoky Mountain Park. 'Above the Clouds' is a deluxe cabin the best views in the entire area. It borders the Great Smoky Mountains and overlooks Wears Valley with one of the most scenic, panoramic views in the Smokies. A previous guest said 'everyone should see this view at least once in their lifetime.' This rental is pet friendly and handicap accessible with a mountain boardwalk along the ridge over toward private community swimming pool.
