Jan's condo is one of the best values for oceanfront property that we have found. The condo is very comfortable (even surprisingly the murphy bed) and clean. There were many extras like beach chairs, coolers, boogie boards and books. We love the location of the Papakea. You can walk to farmer's market, grocery store, fish market and more.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

There is something to be said for watching a Bears game while sitting on a lanai less than 30 feet from the ocean… Papakea A-203 allowed us to do this! This ideally located condo has everything a vacationing couple could ask for. Jan has a studio unit that is located in the best part of a beautifully manicured condo complex that puts you close to everything happening in and around West Maui. We were first-time visitors to Maui, and first-time users of a vacation condo. It won’t be the last. Every picture we saw online was true to life. The bed was comfortable and easy to use, as advertised. Every description about what was in the condo was accurate, with plenty of stock household items available until you have time to get across to Times Market. The WiFi works well, we were able to use an iPad to call up our home TV over the Internet to watch the game live, and to Skype the grandkids. Booking this little slice of heaven was as gentle as the light Kona winds that were blowing throughout our stay. Jan provides very detailed information up front about how things work at Papakea, as well as a Maui to-do list which assisted with our trip planning. We were able to do all of the first-time-to-Maui stuff like Haleakala, the Road to Hana, the Four Winds II to Molokini, UFO Parasailing, and a luau. Mama’s Fish House provided a meal that holds memories for a lifetime. We also had plenty of time to just relax, going up and down the West coast to the beaches. I have to mention Fish Market Maui, across the Lower Road, where they have the best Fish Sandwich on the planet. It is NOT a Filet-O-Fish! The fresh herbed bun and carmelized sweet Maui onions would be good BEFORE adding the grilled to perfection Ono. We ate there 3 out of 7 days. I love arroz, and who would have thought that I would find the best prepared arroz at Ohana Tacos? Moist, yet light and fluffy. The things that cannot be related in a review note are the intense colors and dramatic changes in a sunset. Or, the majestic roar of the rolling waves as they hit the reef before they finish the journey to the sea wall. Both of which every reader of this will experience if they decide to take our advice and find a way to experience Maui as soon as they can, and as often as they can. Experience it in style and comfort at Papakea, with Jan’s superb hosting.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We have stayed in this 2nd-floor, ocean-front condo in 2011, 2012, and have reserved for Jan., 2012. We highly recommend it! Papakea Condo Resort is great, with 2 pools and hot-tubs, 2 putting greens, and spacious grounds which are very well kept-up, with lovely flowers and fish-ponds. It is also "old-style" Hawaii, in that there are several buildings well-separated, and only four floors. From a message to Jan., the very helpful and nice owner, after our latest visit: "1.) Thanks for getting a coffee grinder: I brought a bag of my favorite French Roast beans, and having a nice, strong cup of coffee every morning on the lanai was great! 2.) As wine drinkers, we have done comparison shopping locally over the years, and the best prices are at Safeway(with their discount card, and especially the extra 10% off for a six-pack.) But there are often specials at ABC and Times. 3.) Best place to buy flowers--at the farmer's market 2 bloocks up the street, but they are there only Wed. and Fri. mornings. This time we got a fantastic bouquet for only $15! 4.) Take out food within walking distance; We really love the great Okazuya Take-out in the strip mall a block up the street: Sharing their Ono Lemon Caper Saute with fries ($18) with a nice crisp bottle of New Zealand Sauvignon blance on the lanai with the fantastic view overlooking the sea is equivalent to a meal at, say, Pacific'O's, but at about 1/3 the cost! Also, the ABC store next door has up-graded, and the sandwiches and salads from their fresh deli section are very good, but inexpensive. 5.) We ususally have an evening flight out, so our routine on the last day is to have lunch at Hallimalle General Store (truly a world-class place), then spending time in Makaweo and Paia. We finally grab a cheap bit to eat, usually in Charley''s Bar, which has a free parking lot (a good thing these days in Paia!), then fill up the car with gss, and head to the ariport. Another "extra" day of fun! 6. Local restaurants we liked this year: Pacific'O, Mala, and their new restaurant Honu next door with fantastic sea-side tables, Fu Lin across the street for Chinese food--doesn't look like much, but the food is great!. Roy's up the road--truly word-class as well; we usually make a meal of the fabulous pupus and finish with the chocolate souffle (order at the beginning of the meal). Thanks, and again, we love this little condo! Hope to come back forever and ever... Bill and JulieRecommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My husband and I loved our stay in this exceptionally clean and well equipped unit. The murphy bed was very comfortable and it was so nice to be lulled to sleep each night by the waves gently lapping the shore! This is our fourth stay at Papakea and we will definitely contact Jan the next time we visit. She was a pleasure to deal with both the booking of the condo and the prompt return of our security deposit. This is a wonderful unit-enjoy!!!!!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My husband and I are sitting out on the lanai, the sun just set, and we're sad to be leaving this place tomorrow. The location is perfect, peaceful and quiet. The grounds are imaculately kept. We enjoyed a day at the pool, cooked up some scallops and veggies in the BBQ, and relaxed in the hot tub at night after sight-seeing. There are some pretty colorful fish if you want to snorkel directly behind the condo. We also drove to Honolua Bay which has a nice walk though the jungle and great snorkeling. This condo has everything you need. We will definitely be recommending it to everyone heading to Maui. P.S. Don't forget to empty the dryer-lint if you do laundry! ;)Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We had such a relaxing time there. We went with our friends to celebrate their 40th wedding anniverary. The views were amazing from our balcony and the grounds just beautiful and clean. We laid in bed with the door open listening to the waves of the ocean. So peaceful. Would recommend this to our friends and family. Setting this up was so easy and Jan was great to work with. This studio is exactly as shown on the website. The proximity to the ocean made it the perfect place for a glass of wine at sunset. The murphy bed was very comfortable and easy to manage. Unless the weather was warm, we were very comfortable sleeping with the sliding door open and listening to the waves at night. The grounds are very well maintained and we made use of the gas grills several times. The location will require a rental car if you plan any sight seeing. It is not as centrally located to the entire island as some other resort areas, but you are very close to Lahaina with shopping and restaurants. It is 45 minutes - 1 hour from the airport. If you are looking for the perfect place to relax and unwind without a lot of driving to other locations, you can't beat the price and location. We can't wait for our next visit to Maui.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway.

My son and I recently stayed in A203 and rented directly through Jan. What a lovely accomidation! We especially enjoyed the sound of the surf throughout the night, this condo sits right at the ocean front. I cooked all week and didn't find anything lacking from the kitchen....in fact there is a dishwasher. If you're undecided in where you'll stay, I would reccommend this property and experience over the big hotel chains anyday. We just got back from our wonderful stay here at A-203! I can't even begin where to start! The accomodations were just great. The bed is very comfortable, the kitchen all working appliances, the studio was clean very well maintained and just charming. Jan was a very gracious hostess and made as feel like we were at home on our arrival. The view from the minute you open the door to enter is spectacular! You will have the feeling that you are on a cruise ship sitting on top of the ocean! We encountered no problems of any sort. We felt quite safe in our suroundings and had some of the best nights sleep ever with the sound of the ocean waves right outside our door step! We could never thank Jan enough!!!! See you next year!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We recently stayed here for our honeymoon on Maui. The room was nice & clean and quite comfortable. The full kitchen was really handy. I think my favorite feature was the view--lanai perfect for breakfast or just relaxing. Easy beach access! (Must say the washer/dryer was nice to have.) The location was perfect for all there is to see and do along Front St in Lahaina. We also did lots of activities on other parts of the island which were easily accessible from Papakea. Also worth noting: the elevator, stairs, and trash receptacles are close but not in the way of traffic. *A silly side note: I liked the shampoo/conditioner that was provided so well that I've found it online to order. :)Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We stayed here for our honeymoon. The room was clean & comfortable. It was very handy having a full kitchen. The room is right on the ocean, so we had a beautiful view (also easy beach access). Great lanai for breakfast and relaxing, too! The location was convenient to Front St in Lahaina where there is plenty to see and do. We also spent alot of time on other parts of the island, just a short scenic drive away.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This was our 4th trip to Maui but we had never stayed at Papkea before. We loved our beautiful little condo! The ocean view was supberb and just what we were looking for. You couldn't get any closer to the water! The view was unbelievable. We could see the whales breaching from our bed! We were concerned about the Murphy bed and it was nice and comfortable. Slept great with the sound of the ocean crashing on the beach. We didn't want to leave this amazing paradise. Great location too. The only negative sometimes was the parking situation but it did not matter -you still couldn't wipe the smiles from our faces! And what a great value this condo is. Thank you Jan, we will recommend this to everyone we know.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My wife and I stayed in #A203 for 8 days in 9/09. We had spent the previous week in a newer high-rise condo development a few miles south of Papakea. We much preferred our time in this unit. As so many have commented, the ocean front location was the key. Nothing like sleeping with the doors open to the sound of the surf. Also 7am NFL football viewing on the lanai Shops and small restaurants within walking distance. You have to stop in Java Jazz for the atmosphere. Great fun. Great location to explore all the beaches by car. Public parking and facilities at most. Great walking trail begins at Kapalua and runs north.Did you find this review helpful? I have stayed a few times at A203. This is the best condo and the best price I have found. Sunset each night on the Lanai. I left the slider open all night so I could go to sleep to the sound of the ocean and wake up to the sound as well. Forget the hotel thing and stay here.Did you find this review helpful? WE WERE THERE 3 WEEKS IN NOVEMBER , 2009. GETTING AWAY FROM THE USUAL FAST PACE, IT WAS SO NICE TO JUST RELAX WITH NO PRESSURE. THE BIGGEST STRESS IS TO DECIDE WHETHER TO HAVE DINNER OUT, OR TO COOK IN THE CONDO AND EAT AT OUR OWN OCEAN FRONT TABLE .. ENJOYED IT VERY MUCH , AND THE OWNER WAS VERY HELPFUL IN MAKING US COMFORTABLE ! THANKS , ANN & STEVE.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

My husband and I had a wonderful week stay in unit A203. We slept every night with the sliding door open so we could hear the ocean. We have stayed on Maui several times and by far this was the best place to stay if you want a quiet place yet you are still close to shopping etc. We only went out to dinner one night as there is no restaurant that could have provided a better ocean view setting than our balcony. We had romantic dinners watching the beautiful sunsets.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We had an excellent week in Unit A 203. We were there for our youngest son's wedding which took place right on the Papakea grounds, and it was beautiful. We loved being right on the ocean front. A203 is all it's advertised to be. A lanai incredibly close to the water results in an unobstructed view of the amazing sunsets. At night, the sounds of the surf and swaying palm trees, along with the twinkling lights from Molokai and seemingly a million stars kept us on the lanai late into the evening. My wife and I stayed in Unit 203 for five nights during our recent trip to Hawaii. What a hidden gem. The unit has everything you could possibly want and more. But the best part is the location. You can sleep with the sliders open and listen to the waves as you fall asleep each night. The property itself is quite nice and having the BBQ's out by the pool was great. We give Papakea Unit A203 the highest possible recommendation. We've already spread the word to our friends and family.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

We had a hard time deciding if we should stay at a condo or a hotel as we always have stayed in hotels in the past. We decided on this condo and boy did we make the right decision! We had such a great time. The condo was clean and had everything you needed. Jan is very well organized and sends you all the inforation you need about your stay and what to do or where to eat on the Island. Our view was awesome and we were close to everything. The pool areas were nice and we bbq'ed almost every night. It's a nice quit friendly place to stay and not so busy like the hotels are and you save a ton of money being able to make all your meals if you want. We were worried about the murphy bed but it was very comfortable. All in all, it was a very nice easy place to stay at and we would rent the same room anytime and you should too. We had a great stay in Jan's unit. Sooo close to the ocean, great view (facing west for great sunsets). Very clean and just right for my new wife and me on our honeymoon. I stayed ten nights in Jan's studio in May and it was perfect. The view from the large lanai was so good and it was great for enjoying the sunsets and watching the giant sea turtles. I couldn't believe how close the studio is to the water and how relaxing the sound of the ocean was. The studio itself was very nice and clean, and the murphy bed was quite comfortable. A203 is in a very good location because although the resort is quite large, the "A" building is away from most of the foot traffic. I'd also like to add that Jan is very professional and a great person to do business with. She is attentive and accomodating. I look forward to my next visit to Maui and I would not hesitate to rent from Jan again.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

The view from this unit is what makes it so special. You can't get closer to the ocean (about 30 ft) and the sunsets from the balcony are spectacular. Sleeping to the sounds of the waves so close by all night is unforgetable. Perfect for two on a honeymoon or get-away. Suggest larger unit if more than two. Very convenient location to stores, gas and restaurants. Landlord was great to deal with-- honest, responsive, friendly and very fair. My new bride and I spent our honeymoon in this great apartment. We went to sleep and woke up to the sounds, sights and smell of the ocean. It was so pleasant to experience this. It felt as if we were on a boat in the middle of the Pacific with no one else around us, except we could walk out the door into the 'real' world and have everything we needed or wanted right at hand - including the wonderful island of Maui. We did everything possible it seems and still had stuff on our list for next time. We look forward to coming back and experiencing many anniversaries right here in our comfy nest: #A-203!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0
