Envision returning after a day of activities in the 4-Corners area to the cool breezes and peaceful community of Monticello, UT, which lies at the base of the Abajo Mountains at a 7,200 foot altitude less than A ONE-HOUR DRIVE SOUTH of Moab. Deer visit our backyard daily, as well as a variety of colorful birds. Hummingbirds are plentiful at our two feeders for which I will provide sugar and recipe if you choose to refill the feeders. For you golfers out there, The Hideout Golf Course, rated #2 in the State of Utah, is three blocks away. It also makes for a beautiful early evening walk, quickly accessible via the deer path from our backyard. Fishing at Loyd's Lake is only 5 minutes away, and additional fishing, as well as camping, hiking and hunting (when in season) is available within a 10-15 minute drive into the mountains. Watch for plenty of deer, turkey and jack rabbits along the drive, a drive which also offers spectacular panoramic views spanning miles and miles. Continue over the mountains and head towards Newspaper Rock (30 minutes) and the Needles entrance to Canyonlands (40 minutes away). Additional day trips include Mesa Verde, Monument Valley, Lake Powell, Telluride, Durango, Mexican Hat and, of course, Moab and Arches National Park. Our guests agree that Monticello is ideally located for enjoying the entire 4-Corners area!

Cozy Mountain Retreat with Golf Course & Mountain Views

Year Purchased: 2003

Why the Owner Chose Moab

Although we totally enjoyed our first visit to Moab in July of 2003, and were in absolute awe of what all it has to offer, Monticello touched our hearts in yet a more powerful way. First of all, it is definitely a MUCH-appreciated retreat from Moab's heat in the late spring, summer and fall! Equally as important, it is a wonderfully friendly little town with a population of around 2,000 where you feel like you've stepped back into the 1950s -- my comfort era! Love it! Throw in the fact that Monticello is THE PERFECT LOCATION for 4-Corners travel, and you have a little-known JEWEL of a community! Wish we could spend even more time there, but we love our home in Florida as well. When I learned about VRBO, I was overjoyed to be able to easily share with others our Cozy Mountain Retreat in Monticello, UT, which is just an hour's drive south of Moab.

Owner's Map of Moab

My husband and I were high school sweethearts in the late 1950s, and were married in 1962. He joined the Air Force in 1963, and my eyes were soon opened to the rest of the world after having lived only in Pittsburgh, PA until then. During my husband's 24 years of Active Duty in the Air Force, he and I and our daughter thoroughly enjoyed life as a military family, particulary the traveling. When my husband retired from the Air Force, we knew that the urge to travel would not subside. For a variety of reasons, however, we were unable to travel as much as we had hoped until our total retirement in 2003. That's when we discovered southeastern Utah. THANK YOU, GOD!

    • Our second visit to this vacation home was even better than the first. Comfortable, convenient, great views over the golf course and mountains, with lovely walks just out the door. And Monticello is a wonderful place from which to make side trips to all the area sights. We also appreciated the prompt and cordial attention of the owners.

    • We highly recommend this property. The house was charming, clean, and very comfortable. The deck has a nice view of the Abajos, as well as friendly neighborhood cats who visit. Monticello is an excellent base for hikes in the Needles district of Canyonlands National Park.

    • We were so happy with our accommodations!! The house is neat and spotless. All furnishings, flooring, etc look brand new. We had four adults, one child, and one baby and all fit there no problem! It was an excellent location for our adventure - while there, we went to Mesa Verde, Monument Valley, Canyonlands and Natural Bridges. Price was excellent and so much better than a motel/hotel. We highly recommend this lovely home!!!! FANTASTIC!!

    • This sweet little house was our base for visits to Arches NP and Canyonlands in April 2008. It was a pleasant 50 mile drive to each location. The owner equipted this property with her guests' comfort in mind. It had everything we needed and more. Very reasonably priced.

    • While planning our Utah trip, we decided we wanted to visit Arches NP, Canyonlands NP, and the Indian ruins near Cortez CO. Monticello was an excellent choice. All of our destinations were within 75 minutes. We were very pleased with the house. We felt comfortable immediately. The homeowners and folks caring for the house made sure all our needs were met. We really enjoyed our chats with them. We are already thinking about a return visit.
