Located on an island in Back Bay, this rustic Lodge provides a secluded place to experience nature without any daily interruptions. No traffic noises and the hum of the city is gone. It is accessible only by boat, but is conveniently located near Pungo and Sandbridge in southern Virginia Beach.

This former hunting and fishing Lodge has recently been renovated. The living room provides an inviting place to relax with lots of views to the outdoors and there are accommodations to sleep 6 people comfortably.

There is lots of hunting around the Lodge and crabbing and fishing right off the deck. There is also a rooftop deck for star-gazing without any disruptions from city lights. Spend time water-skiing or jet-skiing in Back Bay or just soak in the sunshine on the deck.

Plan to visit Sandbridge Beach which is just a 10 minute boat ride from the Lodge. Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge, False Cape State Park, and Little Island Park are located here also. There is a fishing pier for saltwater fishing and bicycle & kayak rentals are available.

There are also several restaurants accessible by boat. Baja is located right in Sandbridge and Blue Pete's provides a fine dining experience just 15 minutes away. You can also dine at Bay Villa and visit Moonrise Bay Winery featuring local wines on Knotts Island.

Take short day trips to the Virginia Beach Resort approximately 30 minutes from the boat dock or visit Nauticus in downtown Norfolk.
So whether it’s fishing, hunting, boating, swimming, or sightseeing, it's all available right from the Lodge. And best of all, the Lodge is located right in the heart of one of the most exciting concentrations of wildlife and natural beauty.

  • Spent three nights at Ram Island Lodge and didn't want to come home. Wife, 10 year old daughter and 7 year old son loved kayaking and False Cape State Park. We caught and released largemouth bass all around the lodge. Beautiful home, magnificent scenery and you are limited only by your sense of adventure; to us the perfect mini vacation. Knowledge of water safety and navigation is a must here. Kevin Riggs is a fantastic host. I highly recommend Ram Island Lodge to those of you that wish to truly experience the bay and beach without the tourist traps, long waits and traffic.

  • I cannot recommend this place highly enough! Our stay was absolutely amazing. This house sits out on the water in a VERY private and quiet bay. We spent a long weekend there and saw maybe 7 or 8 boats the entire 4 days! If you love nature then this place is for you. You are only minutes to wildlife sanctuaries and state parks which provide a beach of your very own. We went to the beach and were the only people for as far as you could see in both directions. It was amazing! The owners were incredible. They provided us with a wealth of information on where to go and what to see. They are local and were willing to do anything to make sure we had everything we needed. Thank you so much for a fantastic weekend getaway! We will be back for sure!!

  • Our Back Bay, Virginia vacation was absolutely one of the best ever. We stayed for a week during the Fourth of July and never wanted to leave. The homeowners went above and beyond our expectations. They were so welcoming and very helpful in showing us the points of interest in the area. This house perfectly suited our active family of six. The house sits smack in the middle of a large wildlife sanctuary, meaning you have the entire Bay practically to yourself. We explored the surrounding marshes by canoe & saw ducks, herons, and egrets. We pulled the tube behind the boat everywhere and the kids LOVED it! We went fishing & came home with a small feast! Then, hit one of the many local produce stands to top the meal off. We spent a day at the ocean and had the whole beach to ourselves. Yet we still found time to lazily swim & float around the bay & star gaze at night. I would recommend this house to anyone looking for a different kind of beach trip. If you are tired of the traffic, noise and crowds at most of the beaches out there, but crave excitement & lots of activities in your vacation, then this house is for you!
