What a glorious place to gather with friends or relatives!! Located on the beach, this bright, sunny, open home has room for a crowd---or a few. The downstairs living area features sofas facing wall-to-wall windows overlooking the ocean, a well-equipped kitchen with generous eating spaces, and even a little library area. I visited with several friends, and many times we gathered around the kitchen island for gab-fests. All bedrooms have comfortable beds, and are spacious and nicely decorated. This home is well-maintained, fresh, and feels new. The shell-strewn beach is wide and private--ideal for long walks, a great place to "get away from it all." Yet the little town of Holden Beach is only minutes away for those who want to explore antique shops or boutiques, run to the grocery store or dine at some neat little restaurants. I couldn't recommend it more highly!Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

The sound of the ocean lulled me to sleep at night. The beach is beautiful and you can see for miles in each direction. Lovely vegetation and birds along the beach. Wonderful porch to read and enjoy the ocean view. House was spotless and very attractive furnishings. I can't think of anything that wasn't there for comfort and conveniences. Can't wait to return.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway.

What a perfectly awesome place to get together with a group of friends from near and far who are all on their own sleep schedules! The spacious, open, bright social areas of this fun beach house invite the whole group to gather for meals and visiting, and yet those who aren't night owls can retreat into the quiet and solitude of their own rooms even when the night owls are hooting!Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway.

The house is fresh, sunny, pretty, with large rooms. High-ceiling living room open to dining and kitchen. The bedrooms are all equally nice--big, bright, appealing decor, good closets. Three bedrooms have ensuite baths; two share. Very clean, it feels new. Everything is comfortable. The view of the ocean is beautiful.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway.

My extended family just spent a wonderful time at this inviting beach home. I enjoyed quiet moments with my cup of coffee on the porch off the master bedroom. After everyone awoke we loved to walk the beach looking for shells and most often we were the only people on the beach. Since some of our party were golfer, they headed off to one of the nearby golf courses, while the rest of us enjoyed the beach. When not on the beach, we found plenty to do with the board games and sports and movies on TV. At night we watched the sunset with a glass of wine and then enjoyed cooking the local seafood as a family. A highlight of the day was to go out on the beach at night to look at the stars. This is a great place for families to reunite or groups of friends to enjoy. We will definitely come back!Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway.

This oceanfront beach house is a true Heaven's sent! In the best location on Holden Beach the Private End! The layout and amenities were everything anybody could want especially the wireless internet. This property was clean and well maintained. The owner had excellent communication and was a real doll. I would recommend this property to everybody that I know. I went to Betty's and the Provision for lunch and dinner they both are local favorites and I agree. I enjoyed the rocking chairs and all the decks on the house.Recommended for: People with disabilities, families with young children, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car.

this was the perfect vacation! whitecaps west is a spacious, well equipped, nicely decorated duplex that provides the perfect setting for a great vacation. the long boardwalk mimics the dunes (and a new, flat public access boardwalk is right beside it if needed ... nice for strollers!) and leads to what feels like miles and miles of your own private beach! the kids and adults all enjoyed this beautiful home and all that holden beach has to offer - we'll definitely return!Did you find this review helpful? Holden Beach: A great find
Holden Beach: A great find

Coming from Manhattan, I experienced such severe cultural shock on arrival in what had been described by the official Holden Beach web site as "paradise" that I was almost ready to go home. Whitecaps West is toward the end of a 10-minute drive along straight road separated from the mainland by the Intercoastal Waterway. The developers didn't believe in big sideyards, and have steadfastly kept out most business -- so the initial impression is of a terrifyingly barren residential suburb unrelieved even by minimalls. The next morning, I took a walk on the deserted beach and drove over the causeway to The Cappuccino Lady, which I had spotted on the way out. The owner, Nancy, sat me down on a porch swing with a great cappuccino and introduced me to locals as they came in. They and Nancy regaled me with stories and tips on where to eat and what to see.. Turns out that Holden Beach's restaurants are hidden, but wonderful. I took meals at Pete's and the Provision Company, on opposite banks of the Intercoastal, and enjoyed some of the best fish I've ever encountered. Holden Beach was one of the centers of the shrimping industry for about 100 years, and a few boats are still operating. Many of the boats were built by a local family, without blueprints. I visited the local bookshop, The Book Worm, and found some great histories of the area. When we got an itch to go somewhere, we chartered a boat for a little ride up Lockwood's Folly River, One day we drove to Southport to see art galleries, then headed over to Wilmington, a beautifully preserved colonial port town that has been restored and reborn as a hip place on the up and up. I had a great time in my 10 days -- the air smelled wonderfully fresh, the sea was warm and quiet enough for my 2-year-old. Everybody had a bathroom, and we did laundry whenever we wanted -- a real luxury for us, as we're used to being at the mercy of hotels on our vacation. Compared to a visit to a Florida resort, it was pretty cheap. Coastal Vacations, the manager of the property, keeps the place spotlessly clean. The house was in great shape. The beach was devoid of trash, and pre-Memorial Day, it was deserted. I had a moment of panic when a family showed up in the other half of the duplex, but we made friends, and they were quiet. I hear rentals were down significantly in May -- but for the those of us who like quiet, that makes Holden Beach an even nicer choice.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+.

Year Purchased: 1996
About: I grew up in Raleigh, NC, going to Holden Beach every summer with my family, friends, and cousins. I now live in the Washington, D.C. area. I have two daughters, both now grown, who also grew up going to Holden Beach every year. They grew up in the big city but return every New Years with their friends and cousins from D.C., NYC, Chicago and N.C.
Why Holden Beach:
I spent every summer from age 12 at my family's beach home at Holden Beach. I have wonderful memories of those summers being joined at the beach by my aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends from North and South Carolina. In 1996 I bought a newly built home of my own on the West End of the beach, where the privacy reminds me of my early days at Holden Beach.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
When I walk onto the beach from my home I can look both ways and see a beautiful unpopulated vista of white sand that stretches to the end of the beach to the West and several miles to the East. The water is warm for swimming, jumping waves, or body surfing. I can walk to the end of the beach from my home and find shells that have washed up. Because the West End of the beach has only two rows and the lots are large, it is quiet and I can relax and read on the beach by myself if I want or sit on the landing atop the dunes in front of my home. I can see the sunset from the landing. I also have a private porch off the Master bedroom that overlooks the sound and inland waterway on the other side of the house. I have water views from both sides of the house. If I want entertainment, especially for guests, there are lots of good golf courses and Myrtle Beach for the teenagers.
