Our house, Casa San Rocco,is a unique property, perched on a high ridge overlooking beautiful coastal mountains, pasture with cattle, mangrove forests with an amazing bird population and a fantastic view of the Pacific ocean. The house is really three buildings tied together by coral tiled walkways- has the feel of a small Mediterranean village.
The living-room/kitchen area is large and open with comfortable couches and a large covered veranda for meals outside. The two guest bedrooms are in the next building, separated by a full bathroom, each with a double bed with a twin bunk, and a private balcony. The last is the master bedroom with its own full bath and balcony. There is a large deck around the infinity pool just outside the two buildings. The bedrooms are air-conditioned.
The house is on four acres of land. There are mango, lemon, avocado trees among others. The howler monkeys frequently play in the trees right behind the house. We've seen toucans, green parrots, many kind of humming birds and mot-mots (among many other birds) from our rockers on the veranda.
The beach is a short walk and is very private, the local store is a short five minute walk. This is Paradise. We have a property manager to assist you in every way and a friendly grounds keeper as well. Maid service is available. Good restaurants and tourist fun abound in Samara and Nosara, a short drive away(twenty five minutes in the wet season depending on the rainfall). Great surf breaks within 10-20 minute drive at Playas Nosara, Garza, and Guiones.

This was our 5th year visiting Costa Rica( our 2nd in Samara)? We come down to unwind, sit on the beach and basically "do nothing". We stayed for 3weeks in what we can only describe as the quietest and most relaxing vacation house we've ever stayed in! What a beautiful location! The view is breathtaking! (Although the driveway is not for the faint of heart!). We enjoyed monkeys, humming birds and a variety of other Costa Rican "critters". The pool is beautiful, clean and warm. There is a private beach at the end of the road and Samara is about 15 minutes down a very bumpy dirt road (as most are in the area), but its fun to explore, find shortcuts and cross the river!!! The neighbors at Crocodile are wonderful and the little store at the road entrance is convienent and very friendly! Rafa the grounds keeper is there daily and is very friendly and unobtrusive. Melissa and Dave are very helpful! The house is well represented by the photos! I would recommend it to anyone although the property is very steep and the pool is not enclosed so perhaps as it says "small children might be happier somewhere else"! Be sure to explore all that Samara and the surrounding area has to offer! El Lagarto is great and the "must try" is Cafe Carola the German Bakery! Go for German or Chinese night and most of all-try the homemade bread! Would definitely rent again! Thanks very much HonourRecommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers.

My husband, 7 year old daughter and I absolutely loved the property and the house. It is a bit remote so a car is required. The hill is very steep to get up to the house but is exactly as described and we weren't surprised by this. The photos don't come close to doing justice to how beautiful the setting is. The house was clean and had a lot of towels and clean linens. There were a few areas where there could have been improved or fixed. The owner was alerted at the end of the visit and was very professional about the feedback. It is a birders paradise. We viewed more birds from the poolside than at any of the reserves that we visited. We will stay here again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers.

My husband and I stayed here in April of 2010. I can not believe it was that long ago and I feel awful that I haven't written a review yet, because this house is JUST AMAZING. When we booked it, it seemed almost too good to be true. Though I had helped my boss list his timeshare on VRBO, I had never rented a property myself. And although I knew many who had done so with good experiences, I was still a little a nervous. I contacted several properties in the area I was interested in (Nosara/Samara), and when we talked to Honour (the owner) on the phone, all my trepidation was put aside. She was wonderful - very helpful and accommodating in every way possible during the trip planning phase. When we got to the house, it was truly more than we ever could have imagined. We were planning on traveling with another couple, but when their plans fell through, we decided to go on our own. Let me tell you - this house is a true gem. It is entirely set up to get the most out of the BEAUTIFUL landscape around you. Situated upon a hill (or a small mountain - ha ha), the vistas expand all around you. You feel like you are amongst the tree canopy. Every day we awoke to the howler monkeys (and one day they were hanging out in a tree right next to the house) and then we had to decide if we wanted to sit by the ultra-luxurious infinity pool or head down to the beach. Playa Buena Vista is literally right down the road and probably the most beautiful of the beaches we visited down there. We usually split our time between Nosara and Samara (both lovely towns and very close) and tried to eat as much ceviche as possible. The accommodations were absolutely more than you could ever desire. The living room, three well appointed rooms (we just used the huge master bedroom suite that looked over the pool) and 2.5 baths are split amongst three separate buildings (building one: living room/kitchen/half bath; building two: 2 guest bedrooms and bath; building three: master bedroom and bath). There is a security alarm for the building that is super easy to operate, as well as a locked gate, and makes you and your valuables safe when you sleep or leave. There is a cleaning lady and a groundskeeper constantly maintaining the property as well as the rental agency that is always handy. Plus, extras like air-conditioning and a washer/dryer for free - can't beat it! We just LOVED this house and look forward to coming back and sharing it with our friends. Thank you, HonourRecommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

We stayed in Casa San Rocco with our 18-yr old daughter and her friend during Spring Break. It was far enough from Samara (7 km) to enjoy a true "jungle" feel but close enough to make everything convenient. On property (but not intrusive!) are howler monkeys, parrots, parakeets, lush gardens, and a beautiful 3-building layout and pool on the top of the hill that made our stay perfect. The girls got their privacy, as did we, and we enjoyed the pool at the end of each day's outing at the beach, ziplining, fishing, etc. . Walking distance (1.5 km or less) to Buena Vista beach, which is quiet and non-crowded. Online description and photos of the house and access are accurate, especially the steep driveway and need for 4WD or similar power, even though the driveway is paved. Beautiful views, breezes through the open windows and patios, and surrounded by wildlife and lovely flowers and fruit trees. We agree that those with small children and/or limited mobility might not be well-suited for the property, but otherwise recommend it for families w/teens, couples, or adult groups (and have!)Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.

My husband and I stayed here in December 2008 and had an amazing time. Very relaxing and secluded. As a previous poster noted, you DEFINITELY need a 4x4 to get there. We had to drive through a river (literally), but it was all part of the adventure! The views are gorgeous and the house is beautiful. It is a bit of a drive to get to town, so stayed at the house in the evenings to cook dinner and relax. Recommend staying here if you're looking for something more low-key. If you want to venture out a lot, go to bars, I would probably look at something more accessible to town. Great memories - we got engaged at this house!!! Hope to go back someday for an anniversary :0)Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

We have stayed at this house a few times now. We don’t even consider staying anywhere else while we are in Costa anymore. The house is very well done, and will accommodate three couples in total comfort. It is located in a small village between two larger tourist destination towns. A few of the best restaurants in Costa are just a 20 minute drive away in both directions. Playa Buena Vista is just a short walk down the road, with a few other beautiful secluded beaches a very short drive away. This house is great if you want to enjoy your vacation in privacy. No neighbors to hear, no neighbors to hear you, no tourists driving by on their scooters, and no music from the disco-tech ringing up through the hills. The grounds are beautiful and well kept. There is an ocean view from the main porch off the living room, and one from the infinity pool as well. There is lots of wildlife to watch right from the main deck. The three building design makes every room feel private. There is grocery store less than a mile away, which is very convenient. Being a little ways away from the city makes for great stargazing from the pool deck at night. We highly recommend this house for your next vacation.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, sightseeing.
