Great place!

Great house - lots of charcter. Worked really well for our group. We were in town for our daughter's graduation from UNM and had lot of family from out of state come in. The guest house was great for the family with the infant - quiet for them and us! Lots of space to gather in - wonderful courtyard-like family room and a great outdoor space. We would recommend this place to anyone.

Great Place

Guest: Bill (Roscommon, MI)
Date of Stay: 09/22/11 Review Submitted: 10/21/11

We choose Albuquerque to have a family reunion and instead of trying to fit everyone, 7 adults and 7 children, into motel rooms we decided to try VRBO. We choose Jim's "pool house" because of its children friendly amenities and we were not disappointed. There was plenty of rooms for all 3 separate families and Grannie and Papa loved the guest house. The pool and hot tub was awesome, the large patio was great for eating and sitting around the fire at night, and the playground was a hit with the kids. Jim was very accommodating and a gracious host. I would highly recommend this facility to anyone visiting Albuquerque.

Owner response:William, I love a great review! Thanks and hope to see your group again someday. Jim

Great Weekend Place

Date of Stay: 07/22/11 Review Submitted: 01/03/12

Several friends and I attended a wedding in Albuquerque in July. Since it was going to be three couples and two children, we decided to rent the pool house. It was very spacious with plenty of room for everybody. It was really great to spend both evenings relaxing in the pool and the tub tub. The owner even stopped by one afternoon and made sure the pool and hot tub were completely clean. If a group of us had to go to Albuquerque again, I'd definitely stay here again! Thanks!

Family of the Bride and Family Fun!!!!

Date of Stay: 06/25/11 Review Submitted: 08/08/11

Excellant home for out of town family of the bride. Lots of space to get ready for the big day and awesome pictures. Two year old grandson/ ring bearer enjoyed the play area and the pool. We would recommend this home to any group who wants to enjoy time together and relax. Fireworks at ballon fiesta park were visible from the front of the house as well. House was very well stocked with dishes and utensils. Everything we needed was there, plus. We had an incredible 10 days there. Location was great, close to groceries, mall and the wedding at Rio Rancho Inn. The photos acurrately reflected the appearance, however it was much more roomier than it appeared, which was great! The lawn was great and everything was clean and well maintained. Quiet neighborhood and easily accessed. Can't say again what a great house it was. Best of all of the 5 homes we have rented. Well worth the prices and again what a great house.

Owner response:Tammy, did I have pay you for that review? If not I should have! Glad your family enjoyed the house. Thanks, Jim

I want to first say THANK YOU to the owners they were awesome. We had a wedding here and it was the best it could have ever been. The place is wonderful for events with room for everyone to feel comfortable and relax. The grass and surrounding lush trees and flowers made it hard to ever get a bad picture. All the guest kept asking who was responsilbe for keeping such a wonderful house looking so beautiful. Thank you again, Sam & Angel

Owner response:Sam & Angel, I am glad your wedding and stay went well and your guests enjoyed the home. Keeping the grounds lush is a weekly chore and involves a lot of water. You are welcome and best wishes in your new life together. Jim

Great house for family with kids!

Guest: erin (salford, pa)
Date of Stay: 06/30/10 Review Submitted: 07/20/10

We had the best time at this vacation home in Albuquerqu! We had four children all under the age of 9 and there was plenty for them to do at the house- play in the pool, in the grassy front yeard, or in the gated- outdoor play area. The house had a secure feeling with a locked gate going around the property, the layout of the house was perfect, and the neighborhood was quiet. The location of the home was such a benefit as we could easily get to a supermarket and it was within 20-30 minutes for various child-friendly and adult-friendly activities. The view of the Sandia Mountains from the house was also a nice reminder of why you came to visit. The homeowners could not have been any nicer and were easy to contact and speak to in person; their familiarity with the area helped us to decide what activities to do and their suggestions were incredibly helpful. We highly recommend this house!!!

Owner response:Erin, sounds like the group had a great time! The playground area has been a big hit with the little ones and the parents like the security of it too. Hope we get to see you again in Albuquerque soon. Jim

Family reunion

Guest: martha (mayfield, ohio)
Date of Stay: 06/17/10 Review Submitted: 06/26/10

Our family gathered in Albuquerque last week for a family reunion and wanted a place where all ages would have fun. The Pool house was just the place. It was big enough for us to spread out and relax. Poolside was our favorite hangout, along with the shady front yard. After a few days, we lost all track of time. Quite a compliment in our hectic, busy world. We enjoyed our visit to the Botanical gardens and the aquarium. Lots of attractions for the kids. Thanks Jim for making your house in a very quiet neighborhood our family's retreat for a week. Martha

Owner response:Martha, glad your family enjoyed the Pool House and Albuquerque! When we lived there our favorite spots were laying poolside and eating a sopapilla burger from Casa De Benavidez on the front concrete table in the shade. Seems we both enjoy the same spots. Glad I got to meet you and your family and hope to see you again someday. Jim

Family reunion and Irish wake

Guest: ziastar (Colorado)
Date of Stay: 04/09/10 Review Submitted: 05/16/10

My mother had lived in Albuquerque for over 50 years. She died in January, and we wanted to have a big Irish wake to celebrate her life. This house had room for my family, my brothers and their families. My aunts and uncles and cousins stayed at a nearby hotel, but spent the days with us at the house on Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Plenty of room for all of us to hang out at the house. On Saturday, we had about 100 people come to have a celebration of life party with us. The front yard and back yard and house just lent themselves to a relaxed, happy gathering of family friends, church friends, my mother's bridge group, her former students, and friends from our childhood neighborhood. Everyone exclaimed about how lovely the house and grounds were. The hot tub was a popular place for our teenagers and young adults. Jim was "Johnny-on-the-spot" when we called him to tell him we needed a crib. I'm hoping to have a cousins reunion next summer, and as soon as we set a date, I'll check to see if this wonderful house is available. We could not have asked for a better place for our get-together to celebrate my Mom's life.

Owner response:Anne, it is wonderful that the family and friends were able to all come together and celebrate your mothers life together. It is always nice to hear that your guests enjoyed the stay and the house and grounds served your families needs. Call me early once you know the reunion date and I will be sure to reserve it for you. Thanks, Jim

Our Son the groom!

Guest: Jim M. (West Plains, MO)
Date of Stay: 03/11/10 Review Submitted: 03/23/10

Our Son was married in Rio Rancho on March 13. We needed a place for our immediate and a few extended family members. And, for the seven young men in the wedding party. Just off I-25 and maybe 15 - 20 minutes from the airport. The pool house was more than perfect as we had people flying and driving in from up to 14 hours away from east and westerly direction. There were 13 of us and had no problems. Quiet bedrooms with comfortable beds, hot showers - with plenty of hot water, washer and dryer, wood stove, great furnishings, full kitchen, roomy and a nice view of Sandia Mountain. Jim the owner provided great customer service. He even called ahead of time to advise us he had turned on the hot tub, which was perfect after a 14 hour drive. I like to hike and rock climb. There was time to sneak in some outdoor adventure up La Cuerva canyon on the west face of Sandia. The hike was great but was unable to climb any due to snow. Best part was the canyon was only about a 10 minute drive from the house. Can't share all the positives about the house, it's location to shopping, food etc. Can't thank Jim enough for providing the property for a rental. Good memories and we've already talked with the him about staying there over spring break in 2011. God Bless, jim West Plains, MO

Owner response:Jim, thanks for the great review and glad the wedding went well. See you next time your in Albuquerque. Jim

WHAT A PLEASANT SURPRISE!

Guest: Kaylee V. (Virginia)
Date of Stay: 01/06/10 Review Submitted: 02/28/10

We are a group of seniors who get together every year to golf, play cards and enjoy each others company. The pictures of this house looked inviting so we choose it. The owner was very talkative and gave us lots of ideas for things to do. The house is very old but clean. We knew it was old and expected it to be non-modern but we were wrong. The house only has adobe or wood walls, the floors slope, the cabinets are hand made out of cut lumber, yet the appliances are all new, everything works great and the house is warm and cozy. We lit a fire in the wood stove every night and enjoyed the flowers blooming inside the house in December. A couple nights we used the hot tub and it was great (had a very small leak but works great). Everything we needed to cook and play different games was there. One of our group has a very loud snoring condition so the seperate guest house served its purpose well. I would recommend this house to anyone and we look forward to coming back another time.

Owner response:Kaylee, yep the house is very old with adobe and wood walls and wood ceilings. I love it as it adds to the charm and warmth of the home. Thanks for the great review! Jim

The Pool House in Albuquerque was a great place for our family to gather! Everyone had space and Jim provided us with a lovely decorated pine tree and all the Christmas trimmings so we had an amazing time. We had a lovely view of the mountains and just enough snow to feel the Christmas spirit. The children loved the yard and all the concrete to play on in spite of the moisture. The firepit in the back yard was used every night and we loved having the wood. The location was so convenient to shopping, Old Town, and casinos, but still quiet and peaceful. Thanks so much for the extra touches, Jim!

Thank you for the stay. We were a group of friends reuniting in Abq. The house has plenty of place for several couples. The guesthouse is perfect. We had a one year with us. He loved all the toys you had:-) Its great sitting in the backyard - and of course the superb location to ABQs best breakfastburritos! Thank you and best of luck to you!

Owner response:Anne, from Norway to Albuquerque that is a culture change for sure! I am glad your child got to play with the toys. This spring we are building the kids playground area so when you come back in a few years and your child is ready for a playground we will have it! Hope to see you again someday, maybe in Norway :) Jim

Wonderful place to stay with any size group. We had plenty of room and the house has everything you need for a great week of rest and relaxation. We used the pool and jacuzzi every evening winding down with a few cocktails. The golf at Twin Warriors and Santa Anna Golf Clubs is highly reccommended and if you get a chance go to lunch in downtown at Cecilia's (featured on the food network) it was great.

Owner response:John, glad the guys enjoyed the house and the PGA golf tournament. Hope to see you again someday! Jim

Wow! This place was amazing! We found out about it via word of mouth from a friend and it was everything and more! We rented it for wedding rehearsal, ceremony, reception, and pool party for opening gifts, as well as a place for out- of town and guests to stay. We (bride and groom) also stayed in the pool house. At the most, we had 13 people sleeping-everyone was comfortable and there was still more bed space! The wedding price was worth every penny! Jim had just bought a new GORGEOUS, flowery arch and lots of lovely fake flowers. There were so many decorations already there that I took back 95% of the decorations I bought. The newly redesigned bar/dance floor area was awesome! The best thing, however, was that when it stated to rain, our 170+ guests were able to stay under the picnic canopy (came with rental) and in the house. EVERYBODY fit, even with the food we rushed to get inside the house. The photographer had to take several photos inside the house because of the rain and the atrium living area was a beautiful backdrop! After it stopped raining, everyone was still there and continued the party. Oh, since everyone was told to make arrangements for designated drivers, 4 families decided to park RV's next to the rental right after the ceremony and pictures ended. It worked out perfectly! Love the kids play area, hot tub and pool, also! Loved everything! If I could change one thing, I would have listened to Jim as to where other brides put their tables--I put half of mine in the back and half in the front walk. It was too crazy, I should have put them all in the front, along with the food. We also cooked our own food, and the two kitchens were perfect for all the prep and such. Overall, the rental was just wonderful. If we ever have a big family event, we will rent the exact same house! Everyone who stayed in the rental, both family and friends were from out-of town and were super impressed that everyone was able to work, relax, and celebrate together. Thank you so much---that is what a wedding is really about!

Owner response:Congratulations on your wedding! You made a beautiful bride and Hector looked very handsome. I am glad I got to meet your family too. I added 2 photos that I took at the wedding to the website that will help people understand the house and rain situation. I will email you the rest of the good ones I have. I was really impressed how your guests adapted to the rain and made the best of it! Good thing it only lasted 30 minutes. I love that about Albuquerque that bad weather normally doesn't stick around long. It is wonderful that both families were able to spend so much time together and the costs minimal (that always makes me feel better). Thank you for telling your wedding story for others to read. Jim

Jim, My family really enjoyed the stay at your house. It was perfectly clean when we arrived, everything was in good working order, the grills and dishwasher being important, there was plenty of space for us to gather, and everybody of the eleven who stayed said their beds and rooms were very comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed to cook and serve food, although we used a lot of paper plates to avoid extra dishes. The large patio provided lots of space to move around in and the two large grills were great, allowing us to cook meat for everyone at once. Finally, we all thoroughly enjoyed the pool and hot tub. Even for those who did not swim, it was a great spot in which to hang out. The pool seems to have a great filtration system and stayed very clean. Mostly, we spent time together catching up, but we all at various times during the stay enjoyed walking down to the river from the house, which we found easy to do via the east-west bike path and the dirt paths along the irrigation ditches. Thank you for everything. Liz

Owner response:Liz, the greatest compliment we can ever get is your comment " we spent time together catching up ". Our vision for the house is a place where people come together and get to know each other or catch up on each others lives. The house is not perfect as it is about 60 years old and things break here and there yet it has a comfortable feel, a warmth that is relaxing. Hotels force you into small spaces and only offer a TV, bed and bath and no place to play around, cook together, play a game or take a walk to the river. I know that feeling as I lived here with my family for 7 years. The only reason we left is all 3 boys grew up and moved out leaving us with a big empty home. It made sense to me to make it a vacation rental because I rent vacation rentals when I travel and prefer it over all other types of lodging. This is the first time anyone has commented about the dishwasher. It actually is about 10 years old and I just bought a new one to replace it but have not installed it yet. lol. Thanks for choosing to stay with us and for writing such inspiring comments. You have made all the work worth while. Thanks, Jim

Very clean and well kept property in the north east part of town with excellent eating establishments within walking distance. The Hot Tub was a big hit with everyone and was great to come back to after hiking around Sandia Peak. We hope to return in 2010 if I demob in Fort Bliss. Thanx again Jim. LUCIAN

We had a wonderful family vacation in Albuquerque. The children said that it was the best vacation ever!!! The close proximity to the Old Town for shopping, Tramway to the Sandia mountains, and train ride to Sante Fe were highlights of the first part of our week. We thoroughly enjoyed the trip to the Indian cliff dwellings and Petroglyths, but the highlight there was the trip to the Jemez Mountains with you and your son for 4 wheeling in the snow. The kids said we saved the best for last. We especially enjoyed having absolutely everything we could possibly need at the houses for a comfortable stay. We would definitely come back to Albuquerque and stay again at your home because of the wonderful experience and opportunity to be all together under one roof for a family vacation. You were so accomodating to all of our needs and more!!! Thank you Jim!! Barb

Owner response:Wow! The best vacation ever??? Barb I am so glad you all took some of my suggestions and went to explore a little of New Mexico around Albuquerque. It was my pleasure to take the kids 4-wheeling in the mountains. Thank you so much for being flexible and moving between the Game Room house and the Pool House. I know we will see you again sometime in the future and I look forward to it. Thanks! Jim Summers

The rental was very clean and well kept up. The house had a very unique flavor that my guests absolutely enjoyed. Not to mention the pool house was a great retreat, not just another bedroom! We had a fantastic time and the owner was an absolute pleasure to deal with. The location makes in minutes from everything in Albuquerque. I absolutely would recommend this rental to others coming in from out of town.

Owner response:Rob, thanks for the last minute booking and I am glad your out of town guests enjoyed the houses and facilities. It was a pleasure dealing with you as well. We were a group of 13 adults mostly of one family and in-laws that gathered for a family reunion. Nine of us either flew in or drove in from out of state. This house was superb for us and, in my humble opinion, would be superb for any group of people of any age. My wife and I plus our two 19 year old daughters have travelled the world and rented villas and nothing compared to this house. Yes, the size of the house was more than enough. Yes, the sleeping areas was more than what we needed. Yes, the location was centrally located. Yes, the amenities of the place including the kitchen, supplies, reading room, TV room, etc were outstanding. All this and countless other items were better situated than all other rentals we have had. This went above and beyond the call of duty in its complete furnishing of everything one would need to enjoy the house and Albuquerque. The attention to detail was amazing. Whatever you needed was there. I could not list the amount of extras this place has but I would ask you to walk around your house looking in drawers. This has everything that you would find in your house. Even the small stuff. Kitchen drawers has every utensils one would need. You play chess, you will enjoy the chess game plus the many other board games available. You are an outside person, try all the outdoor games. An information ledger is provided for the local areas to ease the fun. I would definitely make another trip to Albuquerque to stay in this house. We stayed for seven days and time flew by because it was such a pleasant place to be.

Owner response:WOW! I can't believe you wrote such great things when I was drinking your beer! My son and I really enjoyed visiting with your family and exchanging wildland fire stories. I appreciate you noticing and using all of the extra items in the home. Sometimes all you need is an ice chest and a day pack to make a great day in the mountains and we make sure it is there for you. I hope you do make it back to Albuquerque so we can visit again. Best wishes and I will come visit when I get out to San Diego. Jim

Today I was updating the ABQ book in the home. The book is a compilation of things to do, were to buy the best groceries, tourist traps good & bad, the best restuarants (my personal opinion of course), events and so on. Inside the book is another book labeled "tell us about your visit" where guests can leave comments, draw, color, etc. Since very few Guests actually leave responses on this website I decided to include some of the quotes from this book. When you arrrive you will want to read all of them as some are quite funny and some of it I can't write here. I am not correcting or changing anything so it is reproduced just as written. Here we go: "I enjoyed the scenery, Mike" "I really like your home! We enjoyed our stay. Michael" "Hottub very relaxing The house comfortable Don" "The BBQ was reat! Tony" These are written with drawings of the hottub, pool with little stick people and the brick BBQ. "all the comforts of home...nice touch! Feb 2008" We enjoyed our stay. Guitar Hero" It felt like home Texas Hold'em" drawings of guitar and card table. "Below 0 degrees in Iowa, over 60" of snow Great trip! We did some surfing, played some alligator, and played King of the Raft's. I must say this house made this trip, it beats staying in a hotel. (a point about not being served alcohol at the restuarant which is the law here by the way...take your ID!) We are very happy with this house and everything that was provided. If we ever come back here we would definitely call Jim and request this awesome house with the best accomadations. This place has everything. I used to live in Albuq, so I now have found the perfect place to rent when I come home to visit family and friends. The private yard gives freedom to parents with children. And a pool. No more hotels for us. Did I mention how close you are to spa!!, farmers market. U can walk and get fresh veggies and fruit daily. Close to Old town, and night life downtown. My nephew is blind, and he got around the house without fear. It was perfect! Kids played soccer outside, swam, and the adults could have a BBQ and Hottub and finish a sentence! It was amazing. I look forward to our family meeting here again. We recommand this great North Vally private home. We will be back. Thanks for having us.

Owner response:NO MORE HOTELS! I am all for that. 10 years ago we stayed in a vacation rental in Bodega Bay CA and we were "hooked". Ever since then if we have 4 or more people we can't justify staying in a hotel as the bill and going out to dinner by far exceed staying in a home, cooking, playing games & dryer and enjoying each others company. Next time your family gets together again give me a call and I will be sure to take special care of your group. Jim

"We had family fly in from both the East and West Coast; 12 members to be exact. We also had a few other family members and friends stay with us. (It was for a wedding/rehersal at another location.) We had plenty of room for everyone to roam free and not feel crowded. We had plenty of space for our meals each day and since there was a pool, the kids were NEVER bored! The house fit our needs perfectly and kept us from being seperated like we would be if we had to rent seperate hotel rooms. It was definately a home away from home!"

Owner response:Wow! I can't believe all of the great responses we are getting from the wedding parties. As of right now we have 10 wedding groups staying with us (one just booked an on property wedding today) in 2009. We must be doing something right....lol. The pool certainly does keep everyone entertained. Thank you so much for staying with us and your kind words! Jim & Kathy

I would like take this opportunity to say what a nice home this was for my friends from around the country that visited Albuquerque in June 2008. It had all the items and beds that gentleman of our age enjoyed. We would go out and play golf at the various golf courses in the surrounding area and afterward go back to this home and enjoy the pool as well as the jacuzzi and relax. There is a food establishment within walking distance of the home and within two or three miles there are numerous food establishments as well as a large grocery story. If you are into gambling which we were, there are several nice casinos nearby. In the event you did not want to be around anyone at this home, there were other sitting areas that you could get away to and enjoy the nice environment inside and out. I being the cook really enjoyed the kitchen and the nice BBQ pit and how easy it was to get around the kitchen and house. I would strongly recommend this home to anyone and in the event to decide to get together again in Albuquerque, as we do somewhere every year, we will return to this home. Scott

Owner response:Scott, thanks for sending in your comments on the Pool House. It was great to meet all of the guys and you taught me something about friendship. You and your buddies have been getting together every year for over 25 years and I truly admire that. I have a few friends I go see every year but not as a group. You guys are an inspiration to me. I hope your friends decide to come back to Albuquerque again as I will look forward to seeing all of you. "I'll keep the light on for you." Jim

We were thrilled to find this rental for our family to stay at the week of my daughter's wedding. My 2 sons and their families came in and with 5 children ranging in ages of 8 - 1, we had more than enough room and they had the freedom of enjoying the outdoors with the fenced in yard, toys, pool and hot tub. We also had guests staying with us who brought their 5th wheel RV, and your accommodations for them was great! It was "home away from home" for us and allowed us to enjoy our time together as a family with the luxury of being in a home rather than at a motel. You have made it very comfortable and economical for a large group. Thank you, Susan & Julie

Owner response:Susan & Julie, thank you so much for leaving your Guest comment! That was a HUGE RV and I am glad we trimmed the branches before they got here. We never get responses about the economical issue so I am glad you mentioned that. Ten years ago our family was vacationing in N CA and our one night restuarant bill for 6 was $330. That did not include the 2 small hotel rooms where we were packed in tight. The next year we took the same trip with some friends and booked a vacation house. The house was way less than three motels rooms and we spent $350 on groceries & liquor for a week! We enjoyed a hot tub, space, full cooking kitchen and a private home. The trip was one of the best we have ever had and we were sold on vacation homes. I believe this is why we have so many happy guests as we know what we want when we stay in a vacation home and we try to provide that plus much more. I believe once a group of people stays in a good vacation home once they will never want a hotel again. Best wishes and hope to see your family again someday. Jim & Kathy

What a great place to have a Wedding. The atmosphere is wonderful. The house accommodated all of us very well (9). It is such a beautiful piece of property that it works out great for a wedding. We had about 80 people at the wedding and didn't feel crowded at all. You have everything that you could possibly need at the house and the hot tub and swimming pool are absolutely a plus. The fron yard is a beautiful setting for the wedding. The house is very comfortable and felaxing. If you do another wedding or anything else where we may have a lot of people I would surely call on you again for the use of your house. What a fun experience.

Owner response:Nancy, thanks for the enthusiastic response. We are very happy to hear the wedding went great. When you get a chance to send us the photos we will post them on the website. We wish your daughter and new son-in-law a long and happy marriage! Thanks again and we will look forward to seeing you and your family at your next big event, Jim & Kathy

Jim - It was wonderful to have the use of such a fantastic house for our family reunion. We were pleasantly surprised to find such a clean, well maintained home with everything and more that we would need. It was so nice to have our own "private" pool and hot tub. I'm positive that having the use of your home added to the success of our reunion. We will definitely rent from you again the next time we have a family gathering. Thank you. Connie

Owner response:Connie, thank you so much for your kind words. We are so glad your family enjoyed the house and your time with each other. The success of a family reunion is measured by how much the family enjoyed each others company and we were happy to be a part of that. The best compliment we can get is to hear you will be back to stay again and we look forward to seeing you then! Jim & Kathy

What an experience! Your home is beautiful and very well maintained. I could not believe all of the items that were available for our use. Having all of the items that we would have at home was an extra benefit that was not expected, but an extra bonus. We had 10 people stay there at one time and it was extremely comfortable. Awesome place!

Owner response:Steve, we always like to hear that the home was more than expected. We know what we want in a vacation rental and make sure to do our best for you. Thanks for staying with us and hope to see you next time your in Albuquerque! Jim & Kathy

"Jim and Kathy, just wanted you to know we very much enjoyed our stay in Albuquerque! The house worked perfectly for our family and the crib and high chair were much appreciated. We especially liked gathering in the evening around the wood stove and in the morning we loved the sun in that room! Thanks so much.....sorry we never got to meet." Judy

Owner response:Judy it was our pleasure to accomodate your family for your stay in Albuquerque. We are glad you enjoyed our city and home. Hope to see you next time you are in Albuquerque. Jim & Kathy

Comment Text: The house was great. We had all the comforts of home. This house location was easy to find. It is just off the main roads leading into the downtown area. Everything you need is within a short distance. If we get back to Albuquerque we will defiantly rent this place again. Jim and Kathy were very easy to work with.

Owner response:Kay, we were happy to host your bowling team! We hope you scored well in the tournament. Thanks and best wishes, Jim & Kathy
