Buses to all of LA, 5 minutes to the beach, hiking trails abound in the Santa Monica Mountains, Great restaurants with in walking distance. Running, walking, bike riding and roller blading trails at the beach.

I have lived in New York, Chicago, Connecticut, Colorado, Hawaii and India. Santa Monica has been home for 15 years. My 14 year old boy and I usually travel in the summer.

Three blocks from the 'Baywatch' beach, two blocks from where modern skateboarding started (this is Dogtown!), one block from the best alternative shopping street in Santa Monica, a short walk to the farmers market, and a short jog to the legendary Venice Gold's Gym, this is Santa Monica! My wife and I stayed here for six months. I was working from home, so I'd go body boarding at lunch time, and run down to Gold's to train in the afternoons. I wish we could of stayed longer. The property is pleasently furnished in a beach house style, everything feels new, clean, airy, and the kitchen has everything you'll need. There's a nice patio out the back for al fresco dining (I made a point of eating breakfast outside), and John, the owner, keeps a beautiful garden. John is also a veteran of Hollywood who's worked with many big names. You're only one block from Main St (shops, restaurants, etc), yet the street you're on is very quiet. I got to know many of the neighbours, who all seem to work in the movies in some way.
Recommended for:Romantic getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+.
