No matter how you travel to Leavenworth, nestled in the Eastern foothills of the Cascade Mountains of North Central Washington, a short 2 l/2 hour drive from Seattle. Your first view of downtown Leavenworth will be a surprise. Envision a small village, somewhere in Germany, nestled in a narrow valley and surrounded by snow-covered mountains. Leavenworth, "Washington’s Bavarian Village”, could be that very place. Here is a storybook town inspired by its surrounding landscapes. Under the blue skies of spring, summer and fall it is lush with flowers. Costumes, early snowfall, children sledding in the park and Old World architecture, appeals to winter visitors like the fantasies on holiday cards.
Smile at the colorful alpine style buildings while you stroll the streets and visit the unique shops, bakeries and specialty confectioners. Enjoy lunch in a beer garden or dinner in one of the many restaurants where you will find excellent authentic German cuisine and much more. Pause and listen to music in the downtown gazebo; visit the tents and displays of the talented "Art in the Park" artisans.
This festival-loving town has many happy celebrations year-round. The shopping, dining, adventure, art and music visitors experience will be here any time you return. And the surrounding hillsides where you can ski and snowshoe in the winter, or hike, bike and climb when the snows have melted.
