Great location & everything you need to have a comfortable stay, although the shower is quite small for a 6ft 200lb male! We appreciated having a few groceries available (eg olive oil, black pepper, offee etc). There is a good grocery store & markets nearby. We had a small problem with the TV & the owner got back to us immediatel & it was sorted out. There were full instructions covering everything which were very helpful. The 5 flights of stairs can be a challenge with luggage & at the end of a day walking around Madrid - but it did increase our fitness! The lights in the stairwell turn off quite quickly - when you are trying to go quietly & slowly with your luggage! We were also very pleased to have the fan as it was very warm when we were in Madrid. We had a GREAT time, really enjoyed having an apartment as distinct from a hotel & loved all the food!!

Getting to the apartment using the metro from the airport was very easy. Very comfortable apartment, spotlessly clean, in a location that could not have been more convenient. It was on the 5th floor which entailed going up 5 floors but not really a problem if one is reasonably fit. The only drawback was for Madrid summers, even the open windows on the 5th floor could not make up for the above 30 degree temp. and one has to contend with street and construction noise that goes well into early morning. Otherwise, we had a very enjoyable stay and thank you, W and R, for opening up your apartment to Madrid visitors.

Given the money and location, this is a great property to rent if youre planning an extended stay in Madrid. Just a few minutes walk from Gran Via, about the only downfall of the apartment is its on the fifth floor, which can be a hot hike after being in the city all day. However, that pales in comparison to the room, the view from the windows and the price. Its central to all that is needed to in Madrid, and just a few minutes from various metro stations, shops, restaurants, bars and places to buy groceries, too. Definitely recommend this one to my friends.

My boyfriend and I spent a week in this beautiful apartment! We received a phone call from the owners making sure we made it successfully an hour after we arrived. The apartment was very clean as well. We couldnt have asked for a better location. It was central to EVERYTHING we wanted to do. The neighborhood was very gorgeous and everyone was very nice! Having wifi in the apartment was an added bonus!

The apartment was perfect for our needs. It is situated right in the heart of Chueca, with easy access to metros and taxis, although you can walk just about anywhere in Madrid from this location. The apartment is situated on the fifth floor to the back of the building so although it is located in a lively part of the city, the apartment itself is very quiet. The owner was lovely to work with and the apartment had been very thoughtfully stocked with nice little details like an electric kettle, and iron, and even a notebook with suggestions for how best to enjoy your stay in Madrid. The bathroom exceeded our expectations. Although it is small, the sink is quite large with room enough to store your things, plus there is a very handy shelf above the toilet. All in all, this apartment represented an excellent value. The only negative is that it is on the top floor and thee is no elevator. This was not a problem for us (and the owner was very clear about this before we rented), but this would not be a good apartment for someone who might have trouble using the stairs.

This is a cozy, well decorated apartment with excellent facilitiesa strong wifi connection (this is often a problem at many apartments and hotels Ive stayed at), extra supplies (shampoo, etc.), and everything I needed for a comfortable stay. The detailed instruction booklet was extremely helpful. It couldnt have been easier to figure out how everything works, where everything is, etc. And in the noisy neighborhood of Chueca, this apartment was absolutely quiet at night. Well worth the walk up the stairs to the 5th floor that so many have talked about. I recommend it without reservation.

Perfect for one person, a tight fit for two, but great location on small, non-tourist, busy street. Apartment is top floor (6 story walk-up, so not for the feeble or lame) and quiet, with a sweet view of rooftops. You descend from a cozy eerie to the lively street. Landlord was immediately responsive to a small problem that developed. Kitchen needs more pots and pans. If you cook a lot for yourself, you may be frustrated. Otherwise, this is very good value for a modest cost.

The apartment is very well situated in a vibrant part of town. The apartment had good light and a nice feel. The guide compiled by the owners was very helpful. Although the stairs were a work out, we knew to expect that and were not troubled by it. We did notice a couple of bugs toward the end of our October stay however. All things considered we enjoyed the apartment very much.

"This apartments location was perfect for our Madrid visit, close to everything. We were fairly warned about the 5 flights of stairs and found that our legs grew stronger each day from the exercise. Being on the 5th floor and facing the interior courtyard made for a quieter night, as Chueca can be lively through the night. Lovely place!" Bolder Colorado.

GREAT locationand a good value for the money. I would definitely stay here again, as long as it was not in the summer since it does not have air conditioninig....hopefully that could change in the near future!"

"We enjoyed our stay in Madrid. The apartment took 24 hours to warm up, and I think for a Christmas booking it would have been nice to have it warm when we arrived, thankfully there was an electric blanket. We were very central, and could walk to the city centre. Because the apartment did not have an oven, we were a little concerned about eating on Christmas Day, we did not need to worry, nearly ALL the restaurants were open and the cost was the same, we had an excellent meal at GINOS. The metro was so easy to follow and so cheap. For Aviation enthusiasts we can recommend the Museo Delaire Madrid, which was free to get in, and had a large static display and 7 Hangers to view. All in all A good time was had, and although we are both over 65, the walking and the stairs were a piece of cake."

"This unit is very well situated near the heart of Madrid, just 4-5 blocks from Gran Via and less than a 10-15 minute walk to major sites. Despite its central location, it was surprisingly quiet (being on the top floor helps, as do good windows). You are still in the city center, so of course there is noise, but it was very tolerable. The location is excellent. Ive been to many VRBOs, and this one is about average in terms of the amenities provided - kitchen (no oven), nice couch and TV, full-sized tables, an okay bed, very basic toiletries and supplies (though only one set of linens and towels). Like most rentals, you dont get much more than is advertised, but it was all adequate for our stay. Only two caveats for this unit: (1) As other reviews and the property description note, it is five (really six, by American standards) flights of stairs with no elevator. The stairs are old, uneven, and steep. Be prepared (and in good shape!) to haul luggage up and down. Im in reasonable shape, and found that at the end of a day of walking around Madrid, the most exhausting physical challenge was the stairs. We got used to it, but if you have a bum knee, are elderly, or are out of shape, you should think twice about this one. I would still probably return due to the price and quality of the unit overall, however. (2) No air conditioning. This was the first VRBO Ive stayed at without A/C (I was told that due to the age of the building AC wasnt allowed). For late fall, winter, and early spring travel, I dont imagine this will be a problem (there is heat in the form of electric radiators which, after a few hours, do warm the place nicely). However, if you are traveling in the summer, it will be an issue for some. We went in mid-September, right at the cusp of fall, so the first 4 days there were very hot and the last 4 rather chilly. We toured during the daytime and opened the windows to cool the place down in the evening, so it wasnt terrible, but I can imagine in August it might be a different story. We were told there was a fan in the unit, which was technically true, but it was no more than 8-12", the sort of thing you would put on your office desk, and not really adequate to the task (it also had a very dirty switch, making it nearly impossible to get it to stay on). If staying in the summer, ask if the fan has been replaced with something larger and in good working order. Overall, a pleasant place to stay at a very good price given its location. "

"I spent 6 weeks in this property last summer and thought it was a fantastic place. It really did feel like a second home by the end of my stay and I was very sad to leave. The flat was well furnished and came equipped with all you would really need in terms of cooking utensils, free wifi, etc. There isnt an oven, but there is an electric hob built into a neatly fitted kitchen, and this is entirely common (in my experience) for flats in central Madrid. The condition of the flat was good, in particular for the price - which was very reasonable for the location and quality. The flat is on the top floor of the property (and as others have mentioned, there is no lift). However, this gives you the benefit of lots of light and a feeling of calm, which in the central Madrid location is a rarity. By the end of the stay, I was perfectly fine with all the steps too. There was no aircon, which for some might be difficult, particular in the hot summers. However, I found it was much easier to acclimatise to the heat without it. I would certainly stay in this flat again as I very much enjoyed my stay. Ranpal was a very approachable landlord and made every effort (including providing a very useful information pack) to make me feel at home."

"Clean, quiet, well-designed and furnished apartment. Everything was delightful. The stairs were a bit of a struggle, but were young college students, so it was a worthwhile workout. The only downside was one cockroach that we found had crawled into an open suitcase, but since the apartment was immaculate in general, I dont think its the fault of the owner. Thanks for a great stay in an eclectic neighborhood of Madrid! The metro was within walking distance and we were within walking distance to tons of shops and restaurants. We really enjoyed the stay! Thank you! We received our entire booking deposit without any issue."

"Located absolutely in the centre of Madrid and a minute walk from the Grand Via, this well priced and well decorated apartment is perfect for sightseers. It’s located in a ‘SOHO’ style area of the city, so there’s the odd Sex Shop but the initially intimidating street is actually very friendly and just bustling with people, cafes, restaurants and bars. It is at the top of 5 flights of stairs, plus has no air-con, but at the start of June was a perfectly pleasant temperature with the windows ajar, despite the 30c+ days. Compact with everything you could want in an apartment including free Wi-Fi. We had an amazing time staying here."

"The apartment was exactly as described. Although small, it was perfect for our needs (clean, comfortable, modern and a great location). Yes, there are 92 stairs to walk up, but only half as many going down, or so it seems. We were able to walk to most tourist sites (e.g. Gran Via: 5 minutes Puerta de Sol: 15 minutes Prado: 20 minutes) and the Metro was only minutes away. As stated in other reviews, read the instructions in the provided folder in order to know how to operate the various appliances and the TV. Be aware however, there is a cat in the apartment next door that has a tendency, at least while we were there, to howl at all times of the day and night. Overall we would highly recommend the apartment and wouldnt hesitate to go back."

"This property was an excellent value for the money and one of the best locations in Madrid. It was very clean and well-kept and looked exactly like it does in the photos. The owners of the property were very helpful and attentive. They provided a great guide to how things in the apartment worked. Althought the stairs were a little difficult to climb with a suitcase, I found it completely fine for the rest of the trip. The only thing the apartment lacks is a stereo. However, if you bring an audio cable you can plug your iPod of CD player into the television. I would definitely stay there again during my next visit to Madrid."

"The room was perfect for our needs a home away from home. It was warm and welcoming. There was ample room and wonderful benefits - a phone for use in Spain, WIFI, cable, a washing machine, a line to dry onesclothes. It was roomy. It was located in a great spot for walking or Metro use. The owners were very helpful with any questions. The only consideration I would have in recommending this apartment to anyone, is the six flights of stairs to the apartment. It was not undoable for us, but if someone has physical limitations, this could be a problem."

"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Chueca apartment. It is an extraordinary good value for the money, and exceeded our expectations. It seemed newly renovated and spotlessly clean. The description of the apartment was accurate, but did not capture its´ charm and wonderful location. We were looked after very well. One problem with the tv was immediately attended to and we were provided with many staples in the kitchen. All appliances worked well, especially a much appreciated washing machine. We hated to leave, would definitely return, and would recommend it to our friends who are fit enough to climb six flights of stairs."

Questionable neighborhood Cigarette smoke entered the apartment either through the open window or ventilation system More information should have been supplied in the on-line description - such as up 5 flights of stairs. This was provided later, but should have been included in the initial description. No air conditioning - only a small fan Very noisy neighborhood during the night - made it untenable to leave the window open
Owner response:Dear future renters: This is a one off bad review, please ask me for my website link where you can see the rave reviews about my apartment! IMike, Debbie: nformation about the stairs was provided before a single cent was paid so I did not cheat you in any way at all, why did you choose to go ahead with the booking knowing about the stairs? I cannot help it if you could not be bothered to read my website on which there is lots and lots of information. If you had a problem you should have called me, that is what the phone if there for and it is free to call me.

"We had a fantastic stay here and would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to stay in clean, well-appointed apartment in a centrally located area of Madrid. Ranpal (the owner) couldnt have been nicer, meeting us very late upon arrival at the airport to give us the key, and meeting us again 5 weeks later in the city to return our iPods which we left in the apartment. The welcome package was a real blessing after such a long flight and although the apartment doesnt have a/c, we found it cool enough in the middle of summer as it catches nice breezes being on the top floor. In all, a very comfortable stay in a beautiful city. Thank you!"

"We were very pleased with the property. It was as it was described. The owner(s) took alot of pride in making the property desirable, and provided good information in our email exchanges as well as information in the apartment itself (applicance instructions, area sights and amenities, etc.). Being Americans, we were concerned about the lack of air conditioning, but during our visit, we didn't need it at all (05/08/ 2008 - 05/18/2008). You do need to be physically fit because the apartment is on the 5th floor with no lift (this was in the advertising), so the stairs can be daunting, especially after a night on the town. All in all, it was a great experience."

"My husband and I were thrilled to be in downtown Madrid. Extremely convenient to metro stops and shopping. The owner was extremely helpful during our stay. That is the way to visit Madrid! The stairs were not a problem and we are not in shape. We did our huffing and puffing but that was not a deterrant. The apartment is very quiet which I'm sure is due to being 5 flights up. European kitchens take a little getting used to but it was so very nice to be able to cook when we wanted to. The TV took some figuring out but we managed and found some very nice radio stations on it as well. Space utilization is very well done. We were able to lounge about and not bump into one another. It is in the heart of a lively area, convenient to transportation (metro, train, bus tours, taxis, etc), restaurants, shops, cafes and Gran Via. We took several day trips, but could have easily spent more time in and around Chueca and other parts of Madrid. The owners are warm, friendly and available, if and when needed. Prior to and during our trip, all questions and concerns were addressed promptly and honestly. Everything was exactly as promised, including a few pantry items and perishables in the fridge. "The online description of this property is excellent - and reality matches the description. It is excellent. The building is located on a busy side street close to the centre of Madrid and within walking distance to everything, but the apartment itself is quiet - away from traffic and noise. It was immaculately presented, with furnishings and equipment being new and comfortable and of a high standard. Touches such as the electric underblanket on the bed and the dressing gown really added to the comfort here. The owners were exceptionally helpful and friendly, giving me a lot of information about Madrid and living in Spain. The stairs (5 floors) are quite narrow and steep (so make sure you're OK with that), but so well worth the climb up to a most delightful apartment."

"This was a wonderful, newly renovated, spacious 1 bedroom apt. The big concern is you have to be able to negotiate the 90+ stairs as you come and go as it is 6 flites up!. As it is in a central location we enjoyed being able to walk almost everywhere. Located on the back side of the building, the noise from the busy street was not an issue. We enjoyed the ability to cook and just relax at the end of each day of exploration. The kitchen was well stocked with all that you need. Wireless internet and great flatscreen tv with cable (even with english language) made for nice ways to stay in touch. "

Totalmente recomendable."

The directions from the Plaza Chueca stop to the apartment could be more detailed. Having the kitchen fully stocked was really nice! You could grocery and wine shop and have a relaxing breakfast/lunch or dinner at home after a day of sightseeing or late night Madrid fun. The 5 flights of stairs were a killer at first but after a couple of days I was amazed at how easy they had gotten. Best part of trip for me besides all the sightseeing and museums, actually turned out to include the stairs to the charming, clean, airy, safe, tastefully decorated, comfortable Chueca apartment. I lost 5 pounds feel great!!! Would absolutely rebook, highly recommend."

The flat is small but has been furrnished with imagination in order to make the most of the space and it does not feel cramped. The descriptions on the website are accurate and fair. Although the flat is in a very busy area it is quiet and peaceful. Once we had collected keys we had no need to contact the owner but were given a range of contact numbers just in case, which was a very good service. Highly recommended!"

"Everything was clean and neat. Staying here made our vacation complete. It was so convenient to everything. The stairs were tough after a night of drinking but it was good exercise for all the tapas we had been eating."
