The Penthouse Apartment is on Main Street, downtown Utila, the top floor of the Mango Tree Building This entire third floor used to be the Wine Shop and offices. Now there is a small entry bedroom (twin bed, desk and storage) and wet bar and large studio apartment. The huge deck is built around a very old Mango Tree and it is like being in a treehouse, with the birds, particularly hummingbirds sharing the area!
Inside is a queen sized bed, cable TV, stereo system, Honduran wood table with six chairs, a nice kitchenette with refrigerator and every appliance you can think of (microwave, toaster oven, electric grill, sandwich grill, etc.), sofa, chairs, as well as an entry area with single bed, WiFi, broadbank internet, air conditioning, privacy! No mosquito nets needed in this lovely apartment!
This is a large, spacious apartment with lovely views and very comfortable. here are island and Central American decorations. The Penthouse Apartment is centrally located, across the street from a dive shop, CocoLoco and super restaurants. It is truly up in the top of a Mango Tree, like a Penthouse treehouse with a great bay view. It is the top floor of the Mango Tree Building.

You will be staying in a great location, in a very nice place on an unique Caribbean Islands to dive, snorkel, swim, for water sports, hiking, birdwatching or relaxing! The restaurants are special (specially good!) and inexpensive. You can take the ferry (1 hour) daily from La Ceiba/return; or fly from La Ceiba. Year Purchased: 2000
Marty and Carrell lived on Utila since the early 1990s! We currently divide our time between Utila, Arizona and San Miguel de Allende, Mexico! We love to travel, bird watch, ocean and water sports, photography and being with family and friends!
We are retired engineer (Marty) and Psych APN (Carrell) and stay busy with family reunions, hobbies, playing bridge (Carrell), birdwatching and photography (Marty) and coooking!
We travel or stay at either our Utila, Caribbean or Mexican home when possible during Jan - March each year.
Why the Owner Chose Utila
Utila is a very unique diving and living experience! We lived on Utila since the 1990s and love the people, the ocean, the life-style. We like that you can go everywhere on foot, bicycle or moto or 4 - wheeler. The restaurants are super, homemade food, fishes, pasta, barbques and inexpensive (under $10 US for a lobster dinner)! There are numerous markets and a nice grocery store. We like watching the sailboats come in. We LOVE that there are no cruise boats, 13 dive shops, and a good infrastructure on Utila. English is mainly spoken with Spanish as well.
The Unique Benefits of this Penthouse Apartment
If you like hummingbirds, this is the place -- the Decks host lots of hummingbirds and other birds living in the huge Mango Trees. Lots of Mangos in season, as well! It truly is like living in a TreeHouse with all the amenities wanted! The Apartments are close to dive shops, swimming, town, restaurants, the dock, bars, dancing and perfect for watching Utila go by from one of the huge decks. Each apartment has a huge wooden deck overlooking Main Street and the Bay. There are lovely sunsets from the decks and local bars and restaurants. These apartments are air conditioned, have cable TV (channels from the US, Italy, Germany) and hi speed internet. There are ceiling fans, comfortable beds, kitchenettes, even an espresso machine in the Penthouse! This is a place to relax, dive, swim, paint, and enjoy a very unique, inexpensive Caribbean Island.
