We spent three fabulous days at Whitewater Cove. The place is totally amazing. The location right on the cliff edge could not be more spectacular. But what is equally important is the quality and amenities the house provides. It is spotlessly clean and totally charming. It is casual but elegant all in one breath. The kitchen provides everything a passionate cook could want along with an incredible view. There is a nice selection of plates, tableware and pots and pans. The dining room is better than any restaurant. The view is just breathtaking and we set a beautiful table each night. The fireplace lent a special ambiance and added just that nice touch of warmth on cool nights. The bed and linens were very comfortable. It is wonderful to pull through the gate, close it behind you and become one with the coast and the property. I can recommend all aspects of this vrbo and we are looking forward to returning as soon as our busy life allows! Thank you Kim and Mike for everything you did to make our three days so memorable.

We had such a good time visiting this part of the coast and staying at White Water Cove. The cottage is charming, and so clean (I am very picky about clean and it passed my test with flying colors) and had all the amenities we needed. The views, the ocean and waterfalls and the hot tub at cliff's edge above the ocean cannot be beat! We loved how undeveloped the entire coast was. We explored various headlands and saw lots of early wildflowers and spent hours at places where we could access the water. We brought our wellies and went tidepooling at low tide near Ft. Bragg and saw several green anemones and a harbor seal on a nearby rock. We explored Mendocino and loved the Gallery Book Shop and the sweet little Harvest Market. We made all our meals at the cottage and found all we needed at that market. There were a couple days of rain, but we relaxed and read and I sketched and we enjoyed the peace. Other nights the sunsets and stars were spectacular. We sent photos to friends and family and two couples are seriously interested in staying at this cottage and enjoying the area, too. Thank you so much for such a lovely experience. We will be back!

We planned a last-minute weekend getaway and were lucky to find this. Though the expectations were really high, it was more than fully met when we arrived. We spent time in exploring local restaurants (Queenie's wins hands-down!), the great Spa/Hot tub and finished a couple of thrillers when we were not drinking wine outside. It was one of the best short-sojourns away from bay area and we will go back again!

Getting away up the California coast for a weekend anniversary celebration. I have high standards when it comes to finding homes that match our living style. First, the home must be clean and fresh. A hot tub and a fireplace is a must. A comfortable living space is a necessity. We hit a home run with Whitewater Cove... A beautiful, private, secluded escape where we got to spend time together and recharge our batteries. The kitchen is well stocked with appliances, dishes and condiments. It has bedrooms on both floors of the house, with bathrooms for each. The living room has a beautiful ocean view to enjoy, and comfortable couches to hang out in. Outside there is a wrap-around deck that is very private with only the squawk of the gulls and the sounds of the waves hitting the cliff below. A hot tub shares the deck space and is great for soaking and forgetting what you were worrying about before you got here..... We dealt with Ann (the home owner) and the process was seamless. Great communications, quick responses to our e-mails and a nice friendly attitude. If you are looking for some or all of the requirements that we enjoyed YOU cannot go wrong with WHITEWATER COVE.

This was our third trip to WWC and it feels like home (we wish)! Mike and Kim feel like part of our family. They are the most wonderful owners ever. The house lends itself to hours of quiet contemplation. The fireplace and the hot tub....well, 'nuff said. We are headed back for 2012 and CAN'T WAIT!!!!! BTW, we finally saw a whale. Katie Curtis is one of the best parts of the place and we have ya'll to thank for that. There is no place that we'd rather be....ever. Thanks again and AGAIN!!! See you in August!

My wife and I had read the website and all of the reviews so our expectations were very high for our stay at this wonderful house on the coast. Much to our surprise, they were exceeded. The description and pictures of this cottage do not do it justice - probably because it is impossible to capture the scope and beauty of the views from the house and deck. Everything was spotless and well maintained and the owners were helpful with suggestions for restaurants, groceries and activities. There was complete privacy for us at the house and everything we needed to enjoy our stay. Of course it is impossible to control the fog along the coast and we had a mixture of fog and sunshine. But even the fog can be beautiful and interesting and, on the clear nights we saw stars unlike anything we had seen since our childhood (many years ago). We have stayed at several VRBO locations but this was clearly the best.

Incredible location, if your looking for a wonderful, peaceful, restful vacation home, you have found it! Excellent home, well laied out, we had everything we needed and more! Nothing was overlooked. We have rented through vrbo for years, and this home is definately on the top of my lists. Many hikes closeby, waterfalls, redwoods, and winerys! We saw whales every evening! Many thanks to Kim for suggesting a week instead of 3 nights, I would not have wanted to leave so soon. We will be back.

If you are looking for a beautiful relaxing vacation home; this is the place. Undescribable views and easy travel to good restaurants and wineries. The owner was very helpful with any questions we had and gave good suggestions for things to do. We have rented homes for 20 years and this goes to the top of the list. The Herrings - Germantown, TN

If you are looking for the best, take time to read all of the reviews of this property as every word of praise remains as true today as it was when written. The home is spotless with charming decor and endless touches and attention to detail to make your stay welcoming and enjoyable. The views are awe inspiring, not only from the decks and patio but from inside as well. Sleeping in the upstairs bedroom is like sleeping in the tree tops because of the view from the huge windows next to the bed. It is wonderful to wake to a view of the ocean. My husband and I were married on May 10th overlooking the ocean from the beautiful decks of this home, and we could not have made a better choice for our wedding location. We had delicious meals over the next several days at various restaurants (the Albion River Inn, the Little River inn, and the Ledford House, for examples) within a half hours drive but plan to take better advantage of this homes well-equipped kitchen the next time we stay (we found a store in Mendocino with an interesting variety of meats, cheeses, and other grocery items plus there's a Safeway in Fort Bragg). The weather was interesting, changing from calm to windy and from comfortable to chilly, but it was all great because of the huge fireplace and the soft throws the owners have provided for sitting on the deck. A great place! We hope to return for our anniversary next May.

Whitewater Cove was the perfect vacation getaway. We had amazing weather all weekend which I'm sure helped but the location, the house, the hot tub were all perfect. We saw whales from the hot tub! I think it might be the best vacation rental we've ever stayed at. Highly, highly recommended.

A charming chalet home with beautiful whitewater ocean views. Everything was clean and ready for our use. Hot tub under the stars was romantic. We were welcomed with a wine bottle and glasses and a cheery note from the owners. They provided a nice notebook full of local attractions, restaurants and things to do. We'll definitely stay here again! Thank you for making our anniversary memorable!

This is a rather late comment but I feel that feedback is only right on such a wonderful property. The positioning on the clifftop is breathtaking, we stayed in September & had pretty good weather with sun & occasional fog. That did however give us a great opportunity to light up a big log fire in the evenings. Such a lot of thought has been invested in this home, I can't think of anything that was missing to make the stay perfect, the house is also beautifully kept. The owners were very helpful throughout but were also unobtrusive, the perfect balance. I use VRBO very regularly worldwide & this property ranks as my joint #1 with a house in Provence. To anyone considering booking this property I can't begin to describe waking in the morning to the view from your bed over the ocean, a perfect way to start another lazy day.

Stayed here 4 nights in September 2010 and enjoyed every minute. The house is very clean and nicely decorated. I didn't cook, but the kitchen looked great--and worked well for preparing breakfasts and lunches! The deck and hot tub were wonderful and the views are fantastic. It was a bit rainy/foggy/breezy when we were there so didn't get to spend a lot of time on the deck--but could enjoy the views from the master bedroom and the great room. The stars are brilliant at night when it was clear.

We stayed in the property for a week in August 2010, and it was perfect. The location is spectacular, with whales visible from the bedroom and redwood forests 10 minutes inland. The house has everything provided including an open fire, all possible household items, was spotlessly clean, and the arrangements were very well organised. As well as the house having a great location on a bluff, the pretty town of Elk is five minutes away, and Mendocino slight further by car. The whole coastline is amazing, and this property was the perfect place for a romantic, getaway break. Oh, and the hot tub on the balcony has a truly special view out to the ocean.

Whitewater Cove is a truly amazing find! Fabulous location hanging over the cliffs with total gated privacy. It is immaculate inside and out with everything you could need. The owners provided great recommendations for things to do, restaurants, wine tasting, etc. We wanted to be away from the tourists in Mendocino and this was the perfect spot. Dreaming of plans to return ...

This is a beautiful, well-appointed property right on the cliffs ocean side near the charming town of Elk. The crashing surf, the cozy fires in the massive fireplace, the wall of ocean viewing windows, the multi-level deck, the landscaping, the privacy, all the comforts and then some lend to a perfect getaway. Oh, and the lovely spa on the deck overlooking it all! Awesome. Fabulous destination!

Perched atop a cliff overlooking the Pacific away from the touristy places like Mendicino (but close enough to go there when you want), this was a wonderful jumping off spot for us to explore the northern California coastline. The home was beautiful and quiet, well appointed and clean. We enjoyed every day that we spent there.

We found Whitewater Cove while searching for a little get away for ourselves and two of our friends. The pictures of the deck sold us! This house is truly amazing! We played board games in the cozy living room next to the blazing fireplace. Cooked up some wonderful meals in the kitchen. But honestly the hot tub and deck were the best part of the property! We sipped wine out on the deck and soaked away in the hot tub!Even rinsing off in the heated outdoor shower is amazing. The view is spectacular and feels so private, like it is just there for you. We can't wait to come back and visit soon! Thank you so much for making this property such a sancutary!

This is a one-in-a-million property, on the edge of a high promontory jutting out into the Pacific, with a 180+degree ocean/cliff/surf view. Our jaws dropped when we first walked up onto the huge and completely private deck with the world's best hot tub, perched near the cliff and surrounded by flowers of every variety. Everywhere you look is beauty. Inside, the owners had left us a bottle of wine and a nice note congratulating us on our 25th Anniversary. We are pretty finicky people and we can tell the owners are too. Everything inside seemed new—not one single chip in the paint or stain on the carpet. The house has a lovely, serene sea-and-sand decor (not the typical beach house with grandma's castoffs) and the kitchen is so completely outfitted right down to the lemon zester, that we were always able to find whatever we needed. We only left the house twice during the whole stay, to go to Mendocino for a coffee and internet access and to Manchester to stroll the endless beach. We couldn't have imagined a more breathtaking, comfortable, private place to celebrate our anniversary.

This is our second vacation to Whitewater Cove and we have enjoyed every moment of each visit. The home is so comfortable and every little item has been thought of. And the view - you can see the Pacific Ocean from the entire house no matter if you are cooking in the kitchen, napping in the loft, reading a book in the living room or relaxing in the hot tub. If you are considering a stay at Whitewater you will not be disappointed. The pictures do not do this wonderful home justice. There are so many wonderful little beaches and costal areas that are worth exploring - just make sure you are back to Whitewater in time for the sunsets - they are not to be missed!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Elk at Whitewater Cove and found it to be THE perfect spot for a relaxing getaway. As background, we live in Pacifica (about 80 miles further down the coast) and have a great view of the Pacific Ocean from our home there - so you might think we're a bit jaded in that regard. However, this place is situated right on the edge of one of the most picturesque and dramatic sections of the Northern CA coast. The views are simply incredible - especially from the upstairs bedroom where, surrounded by trees, you feel like you're in heaven. The house is well layed out and very nicely and comfortably furnished. We used the fireplace often and were pleased by the attention to detail throughout the place, particularly in the kitchen. Although there are some pretty good places to eat close by (definitely check out Queenies for breakfast or lunch) and a bit further up the coast in Mendocino, you really have all you need to enjoy cozy romantic meals in the house. The only complaint which is a minor one (and perhaps our fault for not reading the manual) is that the fabulous hot tub on the deck just wasn't quite hot enough (80 degrees) for our liking. Be sure to take Hwy 128 through the Anderson Valley to get there and check out the many good wineries along the way (particulary Breggo Cellars, Londer, and Meyer Family Cellars). We will definitely return to recreate the magic, hopefully soon!
Owner response:I am sorry you missed the up and down buttons on the spa and instructions in the house! Most people prefer the 100 degrees or so the hot tub can easily be set to. Glad you enjoyed your visit!

My husband and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary at this very special location. I am a super clean freak and this house exceeded my expectations...very clean, cozy and every amenity available that one may need. A nice card and bottle of wine from a local winery welcomed us upon our arrival. The views are absolutely fabulous!!! Can't say enough about the view from the master bedroom - you feel like you are floating above the ocean. The hot tub on the deck is also unbelievable - practically on the edge of the cliff with stunning views & sunsets. The owners were very helpful with any questions we had. I would suggest the Albion River Inn for dinner - one of the best meals we've ever had (a 15-20 minute drive north of Elk). There are some curvy roads to get around, but that seems to be the norm on Hwy 1. It gets better on the stretch from Mendocino to Fort Bragg. If you want privacy and relaxation, this is the place!

As frequent visitors to this stretch of the Northern California coast since our honeymoon in 1997, we have stayed in many vacation rentals, all oceanfront, but this beautiful rental is the unequivocal BEST! The minute you step through the door, you're 'Home', and frankly, as you look around those first few moments you quickly realize you have 'found it'--- the completely perfect package! Planning each of our trips through the years we search extensively for rentals that will give us that 'Pacific in your face crashing waves wind in your hair' experience .....there is no way to say enough about how perfect this is. The location, view, layout, furnishings, everything down to the very smallest of details, all just as you would have it, if it were your own. Being avid cooks, we so enjoyed the fabulously equipped kitchen, overlooking the crashing waves in the cove, while we prepared meals... then you move your meal to the dining area with its fabulous view...next to the living room with its fabulous view and fire going in the massive fireplace...well it doesn't get better than this! We could continue with the views from the loft and master bedroom...but it would just have that word again, fabulous! We should add that it is immaculately clean as well. Move on outside and we can replace fabulous with breathtaking! The oceanfront decks and fenced grounds and gardens surrounding the property provide a tranquil, secure and private 'away from it all' feel, which completes that 'perfect package' at Whitewater Cove. Michael and Kim are terrific hosts and have the BEST tips on 'places to go/eat/see'--- if you like pizza, Piaci's in Ft. Bragg is a MUST! Thank you Michael and Kim for sharing your wonderful home! Until next time... Regards,

After being in the hospitality business for 30 years and spending over 25 years visiting this part of the coast, this is the best! The attention to detail is incredible. Not only the magnificent views that mother nature has given but the way the property is layed out to get the most of it. What is not mentioned is the three level deck is 1000 to 1200 sq. ft. The grounds are impeccably done, down to the artful trimming of the trees and even the multi-bird feeders. Inside, the beds and linens are the best and as others have noted, the kitchen is a gourmet delight. The time, investment and effort put into the details of this property, truly make the stay perfect. We visted twice in three weeks, including coming back for our 25th wedding anniversary.

We agree with Bill and Leslie who made a previous comment about this wonderful home. A fabulous view, both cozy and expansive depending on which way you are looking from the deck. We live on the ocean ourselves on the Central Coast of California and are used to spectacular water views....but NOT this spectacular! To be in the spa on the deck at sunset is heavenly. The home is clean and comfortable with a great kitchen. The view from the bedroom (including the view from the bed itself) is terrific. Not far from Mendocino and other beautiful small towns along the coast. You will not be sorry with this VRBO rental; I can promise you that.

Well the time was well worth it because we could not have found a better place than this beautiful A Frame 100+ feet above the ocean. Awesome views you could not find any better. We are very clean people and were so happy that this home was in perfect condition. We are familar with many five star properties and rate this one our best accomadation ever.
