LOVELY GOLD COUNTRY TREASURE - SUPER KID FRIENDLY!

Guest: Allyson M (Berkeley, CA)
Date of Stay: 10/28/11 Review Submitted: 10/31/11

Walker's Cabin is a lovely retreat for anyone. Although it boasts the luxuries of modern life, there is so much else to do, we never touched the television remote. The property is expansive, but fairly flat for easy accessibility. My 1 1/2 year old son had a blast running the country road to the pond, and the extra perk of small children's play area with a sandbox was a hidden surprise! This home is decorated country cute and is homey with its fountains and fireplace. We enjoyed tooting around all day on site, and then watched the star filled sky from the hottub at night. I would definitely visit again; truly an amazing treasure in the foothills. The owners were also very easy to deal with and respectful of our privacy.

Owner response:Thank you! We appreciate your business.

Privacy and serenity

Guest: Liz (Richmond)
Date of Stay: 10/14/11 Review Submitted: 11/16/11

Clean and comfortable, enormous amount of private space. Nice very large hot tub with view. Owner responsive, but not intrusive. Dog owners beware: this is heartworm country. After I returned, got my dogs tested, and gave them heartguard. I would have preferred it without the deer head mounted in the living room, but overall it's a very nice private retreat in the hills.

Secluded, charming cabin

Guest: Rachel (San Carlos, ca)
Date of Stay: 09/16/11 Review Submitted: 09/19/11

This cabin is very clean and charming. It is very secluded. We stayed here for 2 nights and never saw another vehicle or human. We did however see a lot of wildlife. We saw deer, quail, wild turkeys, many birds and frogs. It's a perfect place to get away from it, but still be connected ( we had cell service ). We enjoyed the farm trails. We had a lovely dinner on the patio ( the weather could not have been more perfect) and star gazed as night fell. We look forward to a winter stay.

Amazing Escape

Guest: Lauren (Rancho Palos Verdes)
Date of Stay: 07/16/11 Review Submitted: 08/06/11

What a treat!!! The grounds are just amazing. Tons of hiking trails, Wonderful BBQ area by the pond, and a beautiful cabin. I highly recommend this place to all who want to escape and try something different. The dirt road was a little tricky for a low car, but what a jewel at the end of the road. The cabin had everything you need plus more!!!! We went whitewater rafting and it only took 15 min to Lotus. Valeri provides you with all kinds of information to make your stay a fabulous one!

Owner response:Thank you Lauren for your kind words of praise. Good News the road is now paved!!!! Bring your low car back and be amazed at how nice it is.

A Serene Get-Away

Guest: Happy Campers! (Sonoma County / Northbay, California)
Date of Stay: 01/15/11 Review Submitted: 03/09/11

We stayed at Walker's Cabin in the middle of the winter during a heat wave! It was beautiful and serene. During the time we were there, we had business to take care of in the area, but this place is absolutely ideal for those who can simply get away and enjoy the surrounding 100 acres. There are incredible trails for walking and horse back riding, as well as mountain biking. What fun that would be! The cabin is comfortable, cozy, and comes with a fully equipped -- all the amenities! And Valeri is so helpful! We'd like to return some day when we can just "while away the hours"! I wouldn't hesitate to book again!

Honeymoon weekend October 2010

Guest: Maureen and Glenn (Woodland Hills, CA)
Date of Stay: 10/11/10 Review Submitted: 10/25/10

We give Walker's Cabin our 100% thumbs up - for comfort, unsurpassed beauty, amenities, cleanliness and charm. The photo's don't do it justice. We enjoyed vistas of oak covered hillsides, and in the morning, deer and songbirds which greeted us on the porch. The furnishings and decor inside are elegant and all new. The seclusion was perfect - the 15 minute drive to local shops and dining was no problem for us. We also felt special to be staying on such a historic site - old mines are laced along the well marked trails which we shared with wild turkeys and quail who ran through the brush. Amazing!

Owner response:Mr. & Mrs. M came back and enjoyed there 1 year anniversary here as well! Thank you for making Walker's Cabin your tradition!

Perfect relaxing getaway!

Guest: LoveAnn (Healdsburg, CA/USA)
Date of Stay: 08/27/10 Review Submitted: 09/06/10

My husband and I took my daughter and her boyfriend river rafting on the South Fork of the American River. We stay for one night at Walker's cabin, it was like getting away for days. The environments & views from the decks and the ponds were so relaxing and inviting. We brought food to prepare for dinner and breakfast which turned out to be a great idea because we did not want to leave! The layout of the cabin is perfect, you can cook, grill and play a game on the dining room table at the same time. We hung out by the pond after a walk on the property for happy hr and apps before sunset. We watched the sunset from the cabin deck while eating dinner. Then we took hot tubs before going to bed. We woke up and went for an hour walk on the property. The trails are fantastic! Don't miss the story about the Walker's, good background history for the area. The mix of nature, birds and wildlife with the way the cabin is equipped makes for a perfect stay. We'll be back, but next time for a few days! Loved it!

Wonderful, Private and Serene Getaway

Guest: Meg F (East Bay, CA)
Date of Stay: 08/20/10 Review Submitted: 08/25/10

Although this was a last minute getaway for our family of 4, the accomodations were 1st class. We were pleasantly surprised by the attention paid to the details of not only the cabin (which is more like an upscale smaller house with outdoor hot tub--not a typical cabin), but also the elaborate pond/lake with all kinds of play toys for the family--paddle boat, fire pit, grill area, ping pong table, outdoor shower (one at the pond and another upscale one at the cabin). What an awesome place to be! We also went River Rafting on the American River and if you are interested in doing this--make sure to ask Valeri--she can get you 20% off with RiverRunners---Thanks Valeri (&Rand) for making our last vacation before schools starts a fabulous one!

Heaven!

Date of Stay: 07/09/10 Review Submitted: 07/13/10

This is THE perfect place to relax and enjoy nature. We saw wildlife everywhere, including baby turkeys on one hike and baby (blue?) birds in the deck birdhouse (luckily no rattlesnakes!). Hosts were great - attentive but not overbearing. The pond area was the perfect place to spend a summer day swimming, boating, lying on the sand. Gorgeous views everywhere. Read books, hiked, BBQ'd, soaked in jacuzzi, relaxed, relaxed, relaxed!! SERENE, PEACEFUL, GORGEOUS! Highly recommended. We can't wait to return!

We vote "Best Vacation Rental"....this one has it all!!!

Guest: Mo (Placerville and San Pablo, Ca)
Date of Stay: 06/25/10 Review Submitted: 06/29/10

The cabin, the decks, the view, was enough.....the endless birds, the deer, the fox, the turkeys an added plus...but then the next morning we went to the pond, just beautiful! A sandy beach, paddle boat, an outdoor patio with bbq and stereo, but none of this really describes it, you have to see it. The trails are endless, and there are so many other added touches. As you walk the trails, you see something new each time,a lot of hard work and creativity has gone in to decorating this cabin and its property! Our dogs loved it,and we loved it, so secluded yet only 9 miles from Placerville. Every summer we stay in a vacation rental, and we have voted "Walkers Cabin" The Best!! The owner was very accommodating to our needs, thank you again Valeri!! Mo & Family

Date of Stay: 06/12/10 Review Submitted: 06/18/10

Loved the place! Lived up to my expectations. Charming. Clean. Attention to detail. Great for a romantic getaway. By the 4th day my son was getting a little restless. I should have brought up a detailed craft project for him. Instead, we went into town. Really, with all the beauty of the cabin town is the last place I wanted to spend my time. River rafting is a short 3 miles away, and a great way to spend a day. Overall, an ideal start for summer.

Walking in Nature's Silence

Guest: Deb Mag (Monterey, CA)
Date of Stay: 05/12/10 Review Submitted: 05/23/10

This is my third time visiting Walker's Cabin and I cannot even tell you how soothing and healing it is! And it is worthy of accolades. I can't even decide which season is best, but May is certainly perfect. They have manicured many of the grass areas and to sit on the porch sipping wine, watching sunsets, reading, walking in the woods, laughing and spending time with my two dogs and friends...this could not be more perfect! The pond is a wonderful place to hang out and if there are several persons (6) you can even barbecue there while swimming. Although I have wandered the great Gold Country and even slipped up to Tahoe for the day, this is a place I don't want to leave. The privacy is splendid (but when we needed help with the DVD player which we fouled up by pushing wrong buttons, the owner was there immediately fixing it!). We bring our cooler fill with our needs, eat well, play games, talk, hike the trails, and there is never enough time. Sept. is even wonderful with a little more warmth (75-80s), and warm evenings. March was splendid with nip in the air, a fireplace, great walks. I come here to getaway from the hussle of the other world and come to enjoy the silence and beauty. You should not come for less that 3 nights because it takes that long to recharge.

Walker's Cabin, the surrounding ponds and trails, the hosts were fabulous. My husband, mother-in-law, and I arrived after dark -- luckily, the directions were perfect, gravel roads well maintained. The lights were on, country music was streaming from the stereo, and the room was cozy warm with the gas fire going. We were doubly delighted to discover the fresh ginger cookies in the cookie jar! Both the kitchen and bathroom had been newly remodeled with beautiful tile work and modern fixtures; yet the decor was perfectly reminiscent of a rustic gold-rush-days cabin. We enjoyed lounging around listening to music and watching TV, reading, hiking the trails, sitting on the porch swing and watching the birds. We didn't get the chance to enjoy the outdoor shower or hot tub, but it was nice to have the option. The "pond", which is a 5-minute walk from the cabin, is equipped with a stereo system, BBQ grill and bar, gas fire pit, a remote-controlled waterfall, a paddle boat, and even a sandy beach. Needless to say, we were in awe. Our only regret was that we didn't spend more time at the cabin.

We had always wanted to find a suitable hiking vacation in the hills of California. Here we were, with 100 acres of beautiful woods and trails at our disposal. It was breathtaking. Also, the cabin was beautifully appointed and it was fun just "housekeeping," watching the wildlife, and reading and sleeping a lot. My husband ran up Bayne Road from Coloma and we lunched at the Mexican restaurant in Georgetown. But mainly we did not want to leave the property. Our hosts were charming and helpful, yet left us alone, and they invited us to pick fruit in their orchard. Too cold for the pond (November), but great for walking/hiking around. We have left some of the property(the Too Cool trail)so that we can enjoy it in the spring when the poppies are out. Walkers is a honeymoon place. Bring books and leave the TV behind.

Comment Text: Location, ambiance, variety, history... this place has all 4. We wanted a relaxing weekend away (no hotel), at a quiet, elegant and homey place. We found it. Valeri said bring the groceries, cause once you get here, you won't want to leave..... she was right! Glad we took her advice. We had such a good time there we only used the flat screen tv once and that was to watch a video of our trip to Italy. This place has all the modern conveniences of home gift wrapped in mother nature's vistas on top of the hill. Even our beagle had a great time. For the next time, we have a dilemma. Do we invite close friends to hang with, or do we just keep the cabin our little secret. Enjoy!

We had a wonderful stay at this lovely property. I would echo all the previous comments - cabin is cozy, comfortable and thoughtfully decorated, with everything you could want or need. The property is spectacular, and both the Heers are wonderful hosts. We went on a 2 hour trail ride that was the highlight of our stay - scenery was gorgeous, horses were well trained and great to ride, Valeri was a knowledgeable and enthusiastic tour guide and we had a blast. We will definitely be back!

Absolutely loved everything about Walker's Cabin! Couldn't believe the detail, inside the cabin and outside the cabin. Everything you need is there, just stop at the store because once you get there you will not want to leave. We took our own horses Tucson and Amigo. Our horses where on vacation right along with us. As a horse owner, I loved the horse set-up and the trails. We would go for a morning ride, come back to the cabin for lunch, and ride back out to explore more trails. Just couldn't get enough, loved it, loved it! What a treat for us and our horses! Thank you Kevin, Debbie, Tucson, Amigo Pollock Pines CA

When we decided to stay in a cabin for vacation I was very hesitant. We always travel to Hawaii or Mexico for vacation. When we drove up to the cabin I Instantly felt at peace, it was absolutely beautiful on the outside and I could hardly wait to see the inside. This by far was the best vacation I have taken in years!! The weather was perfect, the cabin is adorable, and the outside hot tub is fantastic!! We woke up every morning to birds singing, deer drinking from the little water fountain out side the bedroom door. We went to one of the local wineries for a concert; we went for evening walks and so much more. This is now going to be our 3rd year coming back and I can hardly wait!!

Charming cottage

Date of Stay: 12/26/08 Review Submitted: 01/06/09

Very cute cottage in a very private and secluded area, but still only 10 minutes from town. It was very clean and quiet and we enjoyed our stay. We were there in the winter, so we did not have the opportunity to enjoy the hot tub and deck because it was so cold, but they would be lovely spring/summer features. The hiking trails are nearby and very well marked. Given the single bathroom, I think this is a property best suited for two or perhaps two with one small child. I would recommend bringing all basic toiletries as there was not much provided. Overall, lovely experience and we are likely to return in warmer weather to take full advantage of the outdoors. The proprieter is very nice and she was available for questions both before and during our stay. A winner!

A perfect weekend. The cabin had everything we needed and the grounds are something you could spend days exploring. Our main dilema over the 3 days was deciding how much time to spend enjoying the area (wine tasting, hiking, whitewhater) and how much at the cabin. Meals were cooked on the porch staring at sunsets that we couldn't keep our eyes away from. Moring hikes produced sitings of deer, wild turkey and numerous birds. We will be back again and again.

My idea of a perfect escape is to dip into another world, far away from the 9 to 5 that is my regular routine, but yet, into an environment that speaks of home. Of a comfortable living room with a fireplace, a full kitchen, and most importantly, a comfortable bed. Don’t spare the expense when it comes to sheets with a high thread count, or a comfortable mattress you can sink into at the end of the day. And, if you toss in a hot tub on a deck with a view for miles, that’s frosting on the cake. Walker’s Cabin offers absolute privacy, a corral for my horses a stone’s throw from the back door, and miles of riding trails. I’ve hauled my Missouri Foxtrotters to Point Reyes National Sea Shore, Lone Pine on Hwy 395, down to Bumblee Bee, Arizona and I’ve never in all my travels found a place that beats Walkers Cabin. Enjoy! I know I did.

WOW, WOW, WOW. This cabin is unbelievable. The care taken with every appointment is incredible. The furniture, the kitchen, the feather beds in the bedrooms. Relax. And then there's the hot tub, and the sunset. It's quiet, private, and beautiful. BONUS, the owners of the cabin came by on their horses and my kids pet them and still talk about that. A gracious host doesn't need to be in the house. BONUS, if you're a history buff the story of Walker's Cabin is amazing and inspiring. We'll be back again and again.

We absolutely loved the placed. It was very well maintained. Great rustic atmosphere in the cabin. Plenty of privacy. Beautiful surroundings. Peaceful and quiet. Plenty of things to do. I highly recommend this place as a perfect get away. Owner's were wonderful. Provided great customer service and gave us our privacy. I loved hiking with my dogs, I loved the horses and wild animals. They provided benches on certain trails where you could sit and watch a beautiful sunset or sunrise. You can go horseback riding, swimming, bring your well behaved dogs. Go to the town of Placerville and shop or just do nothing. We will go again!

Owner response:What a lovely couple, the perfect guests. We enjoyed meeting them and their darling dogs, Henry and Fred. Come back and visit us real soon!

We spent the day skiing and used Walker's cabin as a "base camp." It was perfect-- fluffy beds, a gas fireplace (very easy to operate) warmed the whole place up in no time, and the hot tub was perfect. The views and privacy are unparallelled, and the miles of well-maintained and well-marked private hiking trials add unexpected extra value to this beautiful vacation rental. We'll be back soon!

Honestly, the under-stated attention to detail here is simply wonderful! Nothing over-done or fussy at all, yet every specific considered. We brought our small bouys, cooked a New Years dinner, walked for miles, cooked a big breakfast, watched the New Years Ball drip… all of this without needing a single additional thing the entire time because everything was already thought of in the cabin. Warmly, yet exquisitely decorated, we wouldn’t have changed a thing about the cabin. The seclusion is perfect, as is the non-fussy style of the entire process. Wa so appreciated being left to spend time as a family…uninterrupted. A true pleasure in every way. This cabin is positively lovely and you should be very proud. Ian, Jessie, Grant, & Gavin Wendt

What a fabulous place you have created. The cabin is perfect with so many different comforts. We slept like babies in our queen size bed, while the birds and deer were playing just outside our windows. The warm fireplace was so cozy while we watched the big flat screen T.V. There is so much to say about the whole environment, we just loved every bit of it. Thanks again so much, and we are looking forward to our next visit. Ed & Valerie Slater
