Winter Park/Fraser Valley Road and Mountain Biking, Fishing and Golfing Wonderland
Our beautifully decorated, second level condo is conveniently located in the brand new Timbers Condominium complex on the free local bus route to the Winter Park Ski Area (and towns of Fraser and Winter Park). Our quiet, private unit is located in at the edge of the complex, surrounded by open space. There are fantastic views off both of the two large balconies. Enjoy morning coffee and sunny mountain views on the deck off the master bedroom, and relax off the living room deck with a glass of wine or snack from the outdoor table and chairs overlooking the forested open space and mountains behind the condo.
The condo is very spacious and easily accommodates two families of four and is also great for families with more than 2 kids. It is also a wonderful retreat to experience with old biking, fishing and/or golf buddies. If you love to mountain or road bike, fish (fly-fish or otherwise), and/or golf you can’t beat these accommodations. With a queen-sized bed and private bath in the master bedroom, two sets of bunk beds in the second bedroom, a very comfortable pull-out sofa (with memory foam topper), and a full second bath, it comfortably sleeps 8 people. It is well-equipped for cooking, entertaining, playing games, watching movies, and relaxing with family and friends after a long day of enjoying the many outdoor activities the area has to offer.
The Winter Park/Fraser Valley is known as the Mountain Biking Capital of the World for good reason. There are literally 1,000 of miles of mountain biking trails available starting with your first petal stroke from the private garage of our condo. Maps and information are readily available from several local bike shops. We are ourselves avid mountain bikers, and can help you decide on day-long rides or short but challenging trails accessed directly behind our condo – all ranging from beginner to expert level proficiency. The relatively flat Fraser River trail provides miles of excellent riding for families with youngsters just beginning to bike and children in pull-behind devices. For the extreme, the Winter Park resort offers 100’s of miles of maintained trails that can be accessed from two ski lifts, and includes 28 miles of freeride trails dropping 1,800 vertical feet, three skills parks, over 75 stunts and features, white-knuckle downhilling, steeps, obstacles, and trials runs. Road biking in the Fraser valley is virtually limitless. Local bike shops can assist you with planning routes that will take your breath away (and that’s not only from the views you will be offered!!).
The condo is also located minutes from the Fraser River and its many tributaries (including Elk, St. Louis, and Vasquez Creeks) where you can try your skills at bringing the Colorado Trout Grand Slam (including wild rainbow, brown, brook, and cutthroat trout) to hand using dry and wet flies or bait or spin casting tackle. The Colorado River headwaters originate in nearby Rocky Mountain National Park. The Park itself offers a lifetime of fishing opportunities both easily accessed from park roads and designated trails, as well as extremely remote waters that see few anglers. Outside the park, the Colorado gains size and is designated as a blue ribbon trophy trout water, providing the chance to net the fish of a lifetime. Grand and Shadow Mountain Lakes are recognized worldwide for Mackinaw (a salmon species) and Lake Trout. Power boats can be used to fish these lakes as well as for waterskiing. Pontoon boats can also be rented for fishing or joy-riding. There are even two small stocked trout ponds in Fraser (next to the Safeway grocery store) where the kids can get in on the action. We are fly fishing fanatics and will be glad to help you plan a week or weekend full of varied fishing experiences, as well as provide recommendations for tackle and productive fly patterns, lures and baits. The services of local guides can also be secured for lake fishing or float trips on the Fraser or Colorado Rivers. Please be sure to ask for input as you make your reservations, we will be glad to help you find some of our secret “honey-holes”.
If golf is your bag (pun intended), there are many courses in Grand County where you can hit the links. These courses include 27 holes of nationally ranked golf at Pole Creek, Grand Elk, the Headwaters, and the 18-hole Grand Lake championship course. These courses offer incredible views of the rugged Continental Divide peaks, soaring more than 13,000 feet above sea level, as a backdrop for many holes. Reduced price package deals to golf some or all of these courses are available online.
Don’t forget the music festivals! Details are online at the Winter Park Resort site.
After a full day on the water or the links, make sure to relax in one of the two large hot tubs before heading out to dinner or more activities (like shopping, seeing live music, or a movie in Winter Park or Fraser).
Cooking is a joy in the clean, modern kitchen featuring granite counter tops and stainless steel appliances. All the appliances (toaster, microwave, blender, food processor, and mixer), utensils, dishes, and pots/pans you might want or need are included. If you like to barbecue, a gas grill barbecue is provided. There is plenty of space for eating with four places at the breakfast bar and a large dining table that seats six. Our location has excellent access to the area’s only large grocery store (Safeway), which is about 5 minutes away.
