Our charming, historic, two story, two bedroom cottage and large garden is fully furnished and is self catering. It is available for year round rental.
Located on the banks of the Armancon river in the medieval town of Semur en Auxois, the cottage is a charming example of medieval architecture and is a local stone and beam construction. The cottage has recently been renovated by local artisans and quality furniture and fabrics have been used to provide a cosy home away from home.
Facilities include: On the ground floor, a large, practical eat-in kitchen with all modern appliances - cooker, oven, microwave, dish washer, kettle, toaster, iron/ironing board, fridge/freezer, cutlery, crockery, glassware and cooking utensils.
A separate, comfortable living room has exposed stone walls and beams, oak floor, wall tapestry, leather sofa and chairs, TV, DVD, Internet connection and telephone for incoming/outgoing calls.
A large bathroom with enclosed shower, vintage sink, modern vanity and lighting, heated towel rail, exposed stone walls and tiled floor.
A separate and simply decorated water closet with sink. A utility area with washing machine and tumble dryer. The first floor is accessed by the original 400 year old stair case. This leads to a sitting area with tiled floor, exposed stone walls and two leather chairs where you can relax and enjoy the surroundings. The romantic main double bedroom has views of the city walls. The room is warm and inviting and has an antique carved wood and velvet sleigh bed, large armoire with full length mirror, velvet settee with single pull out bed, a pair of oak and marble nightstands and bedside lamps.
The second bedroom also has views of the city walls and is simply decorated, having exposed stone walls and a tiled floor. There is an upholstered French bed, large armoire with full length mirror, comfortable velvet chair, nightstand and bedside lamp.
All bed linen, towels and cleaning equipment is provided for your stay.
Also enjoy the tranquil; private garden situated a short walk from the cottage. It is found behind rose granite walls and contains fruit trees, bushes and plants and the largest vineyard in the medieval town. A BBQ grill, picnic table and chairs are available for your use.
Attached to the garden is a garage with space for one car.
Semur en Auxois is in the heart of Burgundy and is a thriving modern town as well as a rich historic site. Legend has it that it was built by Hercules on his way to Spain but the earliest written evidence of a town charter dates back to the 7th century. Ancient ramparts and 4 out of the original 18 towers remain today. Attractions include shops, weekly market, cafes, restaurants, live performance theatres, museum, ancient ramparts, La Collegiale de Notre Dame - one of the finest 13th century Gothic churches in Burgundy, and oh don’t forget some of the loveliest countryside on earth. The town is a short, up hill walk from the cottage. You can also go fishing, bike riding, walking, horse riding, swimming, wine tasting, to the cinema and eating out in the wonderful countryside.
The auto route is 10 Km away and Dijon is 80 Km.
The cottage best suites couples and/or families with children who are too young to crawl or over 10 years old.
Due to the layout of the cottage it is not suitable for those with mobility problems/physical disabilities. The cottage is non smoking and no pets are allowed. |
