Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2007
We are a small group of globe trotting friends who fell in love with Semur-en-Axois. We enjoy biking, hiking, gardening, wine tasting, fine dining, and learning (slowly!) the French language. We all work and live in the San Francisco Bay Area and travel to France whenever we get the chance.
We are proud to have restored and preserved this historic property.
Why the Owner Chose Semur-en-Auxois
Once you visit this enchanting, tranquil town, you will understand how we feel. We have traveled the world and when we stumbled upon this hidden treasure we had to be part of it. The house is located at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac that offers both peaceful tranquility and easy access to the town center. The entire town has historic monument status AND a vibrant local culture with modern amenities. The town is about an hour east of Paris, smack dab in the middle of the Burgundy wine region.
The Unique Benefits of this Cottage
This house has both the feel of a French country farmhouse and pied-a-terre in town. The views from our property are some of the most photographed scenes in all of Burgundy. The visual beauty is inexhaustible. For your enjoyment, a few steps along the river brings you to our cloistered vineyard, fruit orchard and garden. During the summer months, there are weekly festivals in town as well as wine events at local wineries. The town is well situated for wine tasting day trips and there is huge freshwater lake nearby for swimming and boating. You may want to hang out in the local cafe in town and soak up the ambiance of the local culture, take in a current run film at the local movie art house or a play at the historic Italianate theatre, or rent bikes to explore ancient ruins and ride along the famous canals of Burgundy. Whatever your unique taste, this town has much to offer.
