THANKSGIVING - CHRISTMAS - Choose and cut Christmas trees!
Our favorite farm is "A White Christmas Tree Farm" in nearby Linville. Great Christmas shop in a 1930's old general store!
Also, be SURE to visit Spruce Pine where author Gloria Houston based her award-winning children's book, Home of the Perfect Christmas Tree. What a sweet town and great shopping - like going back in time!
November 14 - Hawksnest opens for tubing (weather permitting)
November 21 - Ski season opens! (weather permitting, of course!)
12/1 - Snow shoe guided tours at Sugar Mountain
12/12 - SugarFest - Sugar Mountain celebrates 40 years!
12/12 - Santa skis at Sugar

Why the Owner Chose Banner Elk
Wayne and I have always had a fondness for the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. My parents were raised not far from Banner Elk and it seems like home to us. I went to Lee's McRae College in Banner Elk and then finished at NC State in Raleigh, so coming here is like old-home week, with friends still nearby. We were married in 1996 in the Banner Elk Presbyterian Church on Lee's McRae's campus, so we got our start here and hope to retire here in about 100 years, or so it seems!
The Unique Benefits at this Log Cabin
There is so much to do in Banner Elk and the surrounding areas! Our kids are young, so we still enjoy going to Tweetsie Railroad in the spring and summer, hiking in the fall (there are some awesome trails nearby), and enjoying the slow pace of life that the area offers. The absolute BEST thing to do? FOURTH OF JULY parade in Banner Elk followed by fireworks and pig pickin' at Beech Mountain and, of course, the WOOLY WORM FESTIVAL in Banner Elk in October. It just doesn't get any better than that!
Owner's Map of Banner Elk
Wayne and I live in Raleigh, North Carolina with two small children and Australian Shepherd (Smokey or Smoke Dog as the kids call him!). Wayne is a licensed civil engineer and works as a construction manager for a commercial real estate developer in the Triangle. I am a stay-at-home mom with a marketing communications business on the side (with two kids who has time for actual adult conversation?)
Our family enjoys spending time together and traveling as well as the activities that keep us close to home - tennis, dance, swim team...it never seems to end!

We had a wonderful time at the Rocky Roost! The boys used the nearby ponds to fish and then we went to Wildcat Lake and used the paddle boats and fished over there as well. You are right, Peppers is the local favorite - thanks for the restaurant suggestions - we will be back!

Thanks so much for opening your home to our family! We cannot say enough good things - we had a great spring break and feel rejuvenated now! Thanks again!

Our family cannot thank you enough for the use of your cabin. It made the trip to hear my kids laugh with excitement and say "WHOA!" when they saw your beautiful home. Plus, hearing my husband say that it was the most comfortable place he had ever stayed. Truly, it was perfect. Sorry that I had to call you for directions - ha! But, it was a lot easier than riding up and down the road. The weather was perfect and we actually got hot skiing on Friday and Saturday. Anyway, again, thank you! We will be back!
