Why the Owner Chose Banner Elk
Wayne and I have always had a fondness for the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. My parents were raised not far from Banner Elk and it seems like home to us. I went to Lee's McRae College in Banner Elk and then finished at NC State in Raleigh, so coming here is like old-home week, with friends still nearby. We were married in 1996 in the Banner Elk Presbyterian Church on Lee's McRae's campus, so we got our start here and hope to retire here in about 100 years, or so it seems!
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin
There is so much to do in Banner Elk and the surrounding areas! Our kids are still young, so we still enjoy hiking in the fall (there are some awesome trails nearby), and enjoying the slow pace of life that the area offers. The absolute BEST thing to do? FOURTH OF JULY parade in Banner Elk followed by fireworks and pig pickin' at Beech Mountain and, of course, the WOOLLY WORM FESTIVAL in Banner Elk in October. It just doesn't get any better than that!
Owner's Map of Banner Elk
Wayne and I live in Raleigh, North Carolina with two small children and Australian Shepherd (Smokey or Smoke Dog as the kids call him!). Wayne is a licensed civil engineer and I am a stay-at-home mom with a marketing communications business on the side (with two kids who has time for actual adult conversation?)
Our family enjoys spending time together and traveling as well as the activities that keep us close to home - tennis, dance, swim team, soccer...it never seems to end!

This was our first "mountain" vacation for the family. We are beach bums, but this is much more relaxing than Emerald Isle! We ALL loved the sleeping porch and took turns with catnaps. We hope to be back in October 2012. We did some great shopping in Blowing Rock too - nice little town!

The Rocky Roost was a great place to meet some good friends for some R&R. The house is comfortable and well appointed. Ziplining was a good time for those in our group who had the fortitude to try it. Hiking Grandfather Mountain was also fun! Great place - we would recommend to others!

Love this beautiful mountain home! My favorite part of this home is the sleeping porch - we had evening and night temperatures of high 50s to low 60s - perfect for sleeping out. Favorite activities - Jacob's Ladder (Hebron Rock Colony), Rafting with Edge of the World! Favorite restaurants - Our Daily Bread in Boone, and Grandview at the bottom of the mountain. Mostly we had a good time reconnecting as a family - thank you so much! We hope to be back soon!

Whitewater rafting in the Nolichucky River, biking at Lees McRae and fishing (more like catching!) at Grandfather Trout Farm. Loved the house - very comfortable and relaxing. We recommend the hot tub and pool table! Worst part was having to leave, but we hope to be back soon. High Mountain Expeditions was great for rafting trips and Jackalope's View is a wonderful restaurant!
