The Rocky Roost is a three bedroom/three bath (upstairs loft includes twin bed and trundle) hand-hewn log cabin located in The Lakes Resort at Seven Devils, featuring a true southern SLEEPING PORCH which is open mid-May through mid-November! Fall asleep to the sounds of the bullfrogs and crickets and wake up to sunrise over the Blue Ridge Mountains! Tell ghost stories and roast smokes around our huge fire pit! Or, play corn hole and relax!
Beautiful views of Devils Lake and surrounding mountains. The cabin sleeps 2-12 (sleeps 14 mid-May through mid-November when the sleeping porch is open) and also includes a pack-and-play for the smallest guests! An ideal location for a family gathering, or a get-away from life in the big city! Swing on the vine twig swing on the porch or hop in the hot tub to enjoy the breath-taking beauty of the North Carolina mountains!
This cabin has been beautifully transformed into a real roost! Attention to detail can be found in each room and eclectic accessories will set the tone for your vacation away from it all. Each bedroom has its own private bath and each is located on a separate floor. There are queen beds in each bedroom, an additional twin bed with trundle in the loft bedroom, a sleep sofa on the main-floor living room, a sleep sofa on the lower floor and the Sleeping Porch, which includes a full bed. Jacob's Ladder - hike to the most awesome falls ever! Grandfather Mountain - the mile high swinging bridge or Wildcat Lake for some boating, swimming and fishing!
North Carolina's High Country is a favorite destination of families, couples and adventure-seekers. Cozy and Comfortable
Becky, we so enjoyed our stay at the Rocky Roost! Wonderful cabin you have there. It’s so cozy and comfortable, and beautifully equipped and decorated. I’ll definitely recommend it to others looking for a good vacation spot in the NC mountains!

Beautiful Place - Great Location
Beautiful Place - Great Location
We (two couples) had a great time. The house was great. We had a roaring fire going each evening, enjoyed the hot tub and found everything in tip-top condition. We commented how the furniture was of a quality we'd have in our homes and not 'shlocky' stuff you see in some rentals. While it wasn't a surprise, we really enjoyed how well located this house was to so many attractions we wanted to visit. We took Becky's suggestion and did the Jacobs Ladder hike. It was a highlight of the weekend. Parking is now an issue as you cannot park on the road so you'll have to devise a solution as we did. Loved our weekend.

A great week at Rocky Roost
A great week at Rocky Roost
The whole family had a great time at the Rocky Roost. Grandfather Mountain and Linville Falls were inspiring. We loved Blowing Rock and stores like the Mast General. The house was great with plenty of space and we all loved the sleeping porch. We also like having modern amenities like full cable and wireless internet even if we are there for the nature.

The house was very clean and spacious = enough room for the teens, middles and seniors! We came to the Rocky Roost to have one last hurrah before summer ends. Enjoy every minute of your stay - it passes much too quickly! Mountain perfection!

One word. Awesome! This was our second time to the Rocky Roost. This is not a vacation rental. It is a home. It is soooo comfortable. My family loves it! Becky is so available to answer any questions for you and the place is meticulous!!! We cannot wait to go again next year. The area also offers lots to do. My kids went zip lining at the Hawksnest and loved it., They white water rafted again at Edge of the World and once again they had me holding my breath as they hiked Grandfather Mountain. We love the Mast Store. We ate at Banner Elk Café twice and it was great. We also ate at Sorrentos and the Frontier Barbecue. All the food was good. We tried to find Jacobs Ladder unsuccessfully. Maybe next time. Don't hesitate to rent here. You won't be sorry. Thank you again Becky for a wonderful week!!! Ellen McAvoy PS. The bear has been named Bernie. He visits frequently at night to dine on the garbage. We were unsuccessful in deterring him despite bungy cording the top on the garbage bin and placing a rock on top.

Elk Falls is the most impressive waterfall from a sheer volume standpoint in NE Tennessee/North Carolina border area. The plunge pool is extremely large and certain to be busy in the summer months. About the owner: Wayne and I live in Raleigh, North Carolina with two small children and Australian Shepherd (Smokey or Smoke Dog as the kids call him!). Wayne is a licensed civil engineer and I am a stay-at-home mom with a marketing communications business on the side (with two kids who has time for actual adult conversation?) Our family enjoys spending time together and traveling as well as the activities that keep us close to home - tennis, dance, swim team, soccer...it never seems to end!
Why the Owner Chose Banner Elk:
Wayne and I have always had a fondness for the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. My parents were raised not far from Banner Elk and it seems like home to us. I went to Lee's McRae College in Banner Elk and then finished at NC State in Raleigh, so coming here is like old-home week, with friends still nearby. We were married in 1996 in the Banner Elk Presbyterian Church on Lee's McRae's campus, so we got our start here and hope to retire here in about 100 years, or so it seems!
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
There is so much to do in Banner Elk and the surrounding areas! Our kids are still young, so we still enjoy hiking in the fall (there are some awesome trails nearby), and enjoying the slow pace of life that the area offers. The absolute BEST thing to do? FOURTH OF JULY parade in Banner Elk followed by fireworks and pig pickin' at Beech Mountain and, of course, the WOOLLY WORM FESTIVAL in Banner Elk in October. It just doesn't get any better than that!
