Why the Owner Chose Banner Elk
We just loved the spaciousness of this home. It will house a crowd without getting in each other's way. It also feels like it's all by itself when really it's very close to everything. You can be at the ski slopes in 5 minutes or less. It just feels like home!
The Unique Benefits at this House
We enjoy the peacefulness, like watching the hummingbirds fly back and forth to the feeder all day. Curl up in front of one of the fires and read a good book. Who cares if you fall asleep! Cook to your hearts content in our spacious kitchen or (my favorite) go out to dinner at one of the many restaurants close by. Ski or snowboard until you're worn out! Go on a picnic or hike or try fishing. (Check out the picture of Calvin and his big fish!)Scoot around to the local stores-- craft, antique, clothing, the great Mast General Store etc. Ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway and be sure to visit the Moses Cone house and their wonderful craft shop. Visit Grandfather Mountain or Tweetsie. Book a horseback ride or drive down the road to Crossnore and visit the school and weaving room. Attend one of the quaint churches. Drive to Boone and discover its great downtown or go to downtown Blowing Rock and to the outlets. Play golf at the course right on Sugar Mountain! Go to the nearby Bristol race or take a day trip to the Biltmore House in Asheville. There are many, many things to enjoy but don't forget to sit in the swing or glider in the morning and/or at the end of the day and just enjoy creation! What more could anyone want?

Our familes came from SC, Tn, Pa, and Ohio. The house was exactly what we needed, large enough for kids to remain in the lower level most of the time while the adults enjoyed the main level. We had 8 inches of new snow while we were there and the skiing and tubing were wonderful, so I was told. The house is well equipped as described which made our cooking much easier. We plan to return!
Owner response:Bob, We're so glad your family enjoyed their visit. It IS a great place to be together but yet have plenty of room to spread out. So glad that nature cooperated and that you had SNOW!! Nancy

This was a great home for our Christmas family vacation with lots of room for kids and adults. Wonderful view and perfect location especially for skiing, ice skating and tubing. Kitchen was well equipted and dinning room table was large enough for all 9 adults. Will definitely rent this house again for our next trip to Sugar Mountain.
Owner response:Thanks so much Mary. We were glad to share our home with your family and we're so glad that everyone enjoyed it! Nancy Pippin

We really enjoyed our stay in this warm, inviting, well-equipped home. It is extremely clean and extremely spacious. We were two families with a granddad and an extra friend along, and we all had plenty of space. The kitchen had everything we needed and plenty of mugs for coffee and cocoa! We enjoyed the large dining table for eating and for playing games. The location is extremely convenient to skiing and not far from the main entrance to Grandfather Mountain. Everything is in excellent condition, and it felt like home. We would love to return!

We were at the cabin for the New Year and it was great. The cabin was really warm and cozy, with very spacious rooms and great beds. We were 5 couples and this cabin was exactly what we've been looking for. The three sofas in the living room, in front of the fireplace, were exactly what every one needed after a day of skiing. Thanks Nancy and we promise we'll be back.

Nancy "Our family stayed at your fabulous home for 4 nights right after Christmas. The house was awesome and fun was had by all. The location was great. Since we are from South Mississippi, we were hoping for snow. Boy were we surprised at how much snow and ice there was!!! But it was awesome. We hope to come back to that area again, and we will certainly check to see if your house is available." L McKay

We had a wonderful stay in this home. It was great for 2 families and was well furnished. The downstairs room allowed the kids to have their space and the upstairs was great for the adults. The views were beautiful and the home is close to the ski slopes. We will try to book again.

We stayed at this warm, cozy, and very accommodating home for our daughters graduation in May from ASU.It was absolutely perfect. My husband is in a large electric powered wheelchair and the home was very accessible for him, he was able to move freely around the first floor with no problems. We had 14 people at the house for dinner one night, two were in powered wheelchairs and we were not crowded at all. The views from the great room and deck are awesome, the wrap around deck is a wonderful place to enjoy coffee in the morning and cocktails in the evening. The furnishings are are very comfortable and the kitchen has everything you need and more. The layout is perfect for a large crowd with various age groups. We had a wonderful time there and would highly recommend it, Calvin and Nancy are very kind and went out of their way to make sure my husband would be able to get in and get around in their beautiful mountain paradise. We thank them very much and hope to return in the fall. Tony and Kim Blaha & Family May 2009
