Why the Owner Chose Banner Elk

We just loved the spaciousness of this home. It will house a crowd without getting in each other's way. It also feels like it's all by itself when really it's very close to everything. You can be at the ski slopes in 5 minutes or less. It just feels like home!

The Unique Benefits at this House

We enjoy the peacefulness, like watching the hummingbirds fly back and forth to the feeder all day. Curl up in front of one of the fires and read a good book. Who cares if you fall asleep! Cook to your hearts content in our spacious kitchen or (my favorite) go out to dinner at one of the many restaurants close by. Ski or snowboard until you're worn out! Go on a picnic or hike or try fishing. (Check out the picture of Calvin and his big fish!)Scoot around to the local stores-- craft, antique, clothing, the great Mast General Store etc. Ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway and be sure to visit the Moses Cone house and their wonderful craft shop. Visit Grandfather Mountain or Tweetsie. Book a horseback ride or drive down the road to Crossnore and visit the school and weaving room. Attend one of the quaint churches. Drive to Boone and discover its great downtown or go to downtown Blowing Rock and to the outlets. Play golf at the oourse right on Sugar Mountain! Go to the nearby Bristol race or take a day trip to the Biltmore House in Asheville. There are many, many things to enjoy but don't forget to sit in the swing or glider in the morning and/or at the end of the day and just enjoy creation! What more could anyone want?

    • We stayed at this warm, cozy, and very accommodating home for our daughters graduation in May from ASU.It was absolutely perfect. My husband is in a large electric powered wheelchair and the home was very accessible for him, he was able to move freely around the first floor with no problems. We had 14 people at the house for dinner one night, two were in powered wheelchairs and we were not crowded at all. The views from the great room and deck are awesome, the wrap around deck is a wonderful place to enjoy coffee in the morning and cocktails in the evening. The furnishings are are very comfortable and the kitchen has everything you need and more. The layout is perfect for a large crowd with various age groups. We had a wonderful time there and would highly recommend it, Calvin and Nancy are very kind and went out of their way to make sure my husband would be able to get in and get around in their beautiful mountain paradise. We thank them very much and hope to return in the fall. Tony and Kim Blaha & Family May 2009

This works wonderfully for us. We just couldn't believe it. We tried to get y'all's house again but it was gone. We had used VRBO for trips to the islands and Breckenridge, so I thought I'd just check and there you were! Our good fortune! C Parker * Previous renter thru an agent and introduced us to VRBO!

    • A great 2005 ski trip for all of us! Your house was a joy for everyone. The kids loved the basement which gave them A place to “hang out”. They referred to the basement as “camp” and camp offered all the required amenities like; Music, Games, TV, lounge area, bed rooms, and bathroom/shower. The kids enjoyed the room with the 2 bunk beds while their older 12 year old cousin was able to enjoy his “own room” with a queen size bed. So for us, a fun ski trip is when the kids say at the end of a memorable trip “That was awesome and when are we going back”…. Thanks for lasting memories and a pre-2005 Christmas Joy!! The North and Oliver Family.

    • We had a great visit in this beautiful place. It was quite spacious and it snowed three or four inches while we were there, something we rarely see in Savannah. We hope to return again next year. Convenient to the slopes and a beautiful view. The McCorkles, the Allens and the Johnstons.
