2 Charming Apartments in Quiet Area-25 Mt from West Coast Beach - Apartment #4 - First floor
- Minimum stay:7 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Our apartments are set in peaceful tropical gardens, just yards from a beautiful beach – clear blue sea, white coral sands & palm trees.
They are simply, but well furnished, as they are our family holiday homes rather than just rental properties.
The beds are large & comfortable, as is all the patio furniture. The kitchen area has every appliance you could possibly need, including a blender for mixing up cocktails & a cafetiere to make that fresh cup of coffee in the morning! Towels, linen & soft furnishings are colour coordinated, creating a bright & cheerful atmosphere. All linens are renewed annually. Large fans keep the apartment cool & comfortable, allowing you a good nights sleep. There is a daily maid, who will also provide a laundry service at a small cost. Of course an iron & hairdryer are available for use by our guests. You are an easy stroll from an excellent selection of bars & restaurants, a well-stocked supermarket & local transport- an ideal location!
The gardens surrounding the property are carefully tended by Harry. You will see Frangipani, Bougainvillea, Hibiscus and many other tropical flowers. We also grow avocado, grapefruit, coconut, breadfruit and bananas.
Eating Out - Reasonable to Ridiculous:
There are numerous places to eat to suit all tastes and budgets – all within easy reach of the apartment. For up-market dining we can highly recommend Lone Star and The Tides. The Fish Pot at Little Good Harbour is north of Speightstown, but well worth the 15-minute drive.
For well-priced, good fresh food, served by friendly, relaxed staff, visit Zaccios – a 5-minute walk away. We are regular visitors here and the bar staff are fabulous too – ask Dave or Trudi to make you a cocktail – say Mikey and Mary sent you! Happy Hour 4.30 - 6pm!
Also try Jus Grillin opposite The Beach House - very good value and freshly cooked to order.
Sample an excellent lunch from a street vendor, where the food is truly Bajan and freshly cooked - what more could you want?
Papa Earl sells superb vegetarian food from his car at the end of our road from Tuesdays to Saturdays - we can highly recommend this tasty food at excellent prices.
There is also a 'fry' at the end of the road during the evenings of Thursday to Saturday. this has an extensive menu and everything is freshly cooked for you. You can either eat there of bring the food back to the apartment.
You could always eat at Lobster Alive just south of Bridgetown, but it is very expensive. However the beach in front of this establishment - Browns Beach - is stunning. Hire a bed and umbrella for $30 and spend all day here!
Out and About in Barbados:
So many places to visit and so much to do, and so little time. But don't hurry! Although you don't need to hire a car as the public transport system is excellent, it is fun to hire a moke or jeep for a couple of days so that you can drive around at your leisure, and discover parts of the island that other tourists may not reach! You should drive over to the east coast - it is rugged and beautiful - visit Morgan Lewis Beach and Bathsheba, having driven over Cherry Tree Hill, from where the views are truly stunning. We also suggest that you treat yourself to a catamaran cruise along the west coast - swimming with turtles, and sampling wonderful food and rum punch whilst on board - the island looks so different when seen from the ocean. A lunchtime tour of the Mount Gay Rum distillery is also an excellent good value outing! If you don't want to hire a car, a Jeep Safari is a very good way of seeing most aspects of the island in a day - of course it includes your lunch and drinks!
Beaches - Near and Far:
Coconut palms, Casuarina and Machineel trees fringe the beach at Discovery Bay, where our apartment is situated. You can sit quietly and soak up sun on a beach chair, or indulge in a variety of water sports - all of which are available from 'beach vendors' or bookable at The Sandpiper sports bar. There are buoyed off areas so that you can swim and snorkel safely without fear of being run down by over-enthusiastic jet skiers! Overall the bay is peaceful and offers something for everyone. The Folkestone Marine Reserve is a few minutes walk up the beach and is well known as an excellent snorkeling area over a beautiful coral reef. South of Discovery Bay is Sandy Lane - one of the most famous beaches and hotels in the Caribbean - all beaches are public so you can visit here if you wish. Payne’s Bay and Mullins Bay are also well known beauty spots within easy reach. The East Coast is deserted and beautiful, but swimming can be dangerous due to the undertow – so care should be taken.
Apartment #4 - First floor: Holetown, St. James Vacation Rental by Owner Listing 14794ha
Apartment #4 is a first floor apartment with a separate bedroom, which is private and not overlooked. It benefits from the breeze coming across the island. The apartments are part of a 12 apartment complex 25 metres from Discovery Bay beach. It is a quiet development used by a wide age range of people. If you wish to party there is plenty to do, and many bars to visit only a 5 or 10 minute walk away. We spend much time making the apartment a home-from-home so that we and our guests feel comfortable and relaxed. All linens are coordinated and replaced regularly, as are all kitchen utensils and equipment, so that the apartment is always bright and fresh. Wireless Broadband internet access is available in apartment #4. There is a lockable strong box if you wish to safely store any valuables. We politely ask that guests do not smoke anywhere in the apartment. Thank you

We stayed here in April 2009, and had a brilliant time. Mary was really helpful and supplied us with all the information we could possibly need - and more! The booking process was swift and simple. We loved the location of the apartment - very quiet and private, and yet so close to all the bars, restaurants and shops. We were also able to cater for ourselves as the kitchen is a real home from home - we wanted for nothing. We loved the decor in the apartment, and everything was bright and new. The staff were brilliant and couldn't have been more helpful. Thanks you so much, and we shall certainly be back!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+.
Owner response: Thank you! This apartment is due for its annual refurbishment and redecoration this autumn 2009 - new furniture and new fabrics - so the updated pictures will appear on the website soon!

This was our first trip to Barbados and it had been suggested to us to stay on the western coast of the island. The apartment was in a wonderful location, just steps from the beach, shopping, and restaurants. The nearby monkeys were an extra treat, allowing us to watch from our balcony early one morning. Harry (groundskeeper) was patiently waiting for us at the airport, even with our late arrival and was able to provide much information about the island. Helena (housekeeper) was exceptional too, very friendly and diligent. We had a very enjoyable trip to Barbados!Recommended for: Age 55+.
Owner response: We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay at our apartment! Location is everything. We are very lucky with our staff, and are very pleased that they looked after you so well. We look forward to welcoming you back soon! M&M

We have stayed here many times before and are delighted to be able to have the opportunity to leave some feedback for everyone to read! Great location, great food, great people - what more can we say? The staff at Art Studios are friendly and helpful, and contributed to the comfort of our holiday. Mary & Mike have equipped the apartment to the highest standard, and we wanted for nothing. We hope to return early 2009. Another thought - this is a great place to stay if you want to use Barbados as a hub for visiting other Caribbean islands - we visited St Lucia and Mustique whilst based here. Flights were convenient and its only 40 minutes to the airport. Have a great time!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, romantic getaway, age 55+.
Owner response: Thank you to a regular guest! We have tried very hard to make the apartment a 'home from home' and these comments are really appreciated. Mary

I stayed here with my boyfriend in 2007 – our second visit to one of the apartments owned by Mary and Michael. We had a wonderful time – the owners have provided everything you could possibly ever need! The situation is ideal – just a few seconds from the beach, and a 5-minute walk to shops, bars, restaurants, banks etc. The beds were comfortable and all the linen and towels were clean and fresh, as was the decor. Couldn’t have asked for better. The gardens around the apartments were so colouful and pretty. We also saw humming birds and monkeys there! We were able to book watersports at the kiosk at the Sandpiper hotel next door, which saved any haggling with the guys on the beach - particularly enjoyed a trip out on a mini catamaran. Local food served out of vans at the roadside was brilliant - so cheap and delicious. We hired a car for a couple of days, but most of the time we either walked everywhere, or got on one of the bright yellow buses which dropped us off in Bridgetown. We just had the best time and will be booking for 2008.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+.
Owner response: Thank you for your kind comments - so pleased you enjoyed the island and our apartment! We look forward to hearing from you in 2008. M & M

GENUINE COMMENTS FROM OUR GUEST BOOK: Wanted to say what a fantastic time we had - the apartment was perfect - how glorious to be so close to the beach. *** Just to let you know what a wonderful time we had at Art Studios. We enjoyed the sunsets with other residents, and all agreed that No 4 is the best apartment to stay in! We did the Races, Parliament, Holders Hill Theatre, fish fry at Oistins, dined at Le Mer Port St Charles and The Lone Star. Also enjoyed Cocomos very much. *** Congratulations - beautiful apartment - the 4th time we have stayed at Art Studios - #4 is by far the nicest. We had a wonderful time and are sorry to be going home - when we return we will definitely be staying here. *** Once again, thank you, particularly for such a smooth booking process and for all your helpful advice. Both the people and island were superb. Everyone we met had something to say and of course the place is beautiful. Art studio was a real treat - much better than a hotel any day!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 11/14
