  I have tried to book Mary's Dream for 3 years and never was able to get my dates because she was not available. This year I booked her almost a year in advance and now I know why she is always booked. Mary's Dream is the perfect beach house; she is a laid back quintessential beach cottage that sits directly on the beach and gave us a view of the ocean from all of our rooms. The clear railing on the deck is just great; we sat and drank coffee and there was not interruption of the view. It felt like we were sitting right on the beach without the sand! She is not a luxurious, fancy beach house; she is a beach cottage with 100% cotton bed sheets (you can tell they were high thread count) and comfortable white bedspreads which reminded me of when were were kids at the beach. Simple and clean and beachy. Thank you, Mary; I am going to email you when I get through with this and make my reservation for next year and HOPE my dates are available.

  Just wanted to let you know what a wonderful time my sisters and I had at your beach house. I have stayed on many of the sea islands of SC but never that close to the ocean. I can understand why it is your dream. I was telling my husband about the island and your house and we are looking into when we can come back down this year and possible bring our pooch Rebel with us. I just fell in love with the island and I know my husband will as well. Thank you again for the use of your home, it was very comfortable and inviting. Margaret

  Our week at Mary's Dream was wonderful! Mary's Dream has always been my "dream". To go back in time, a time when my family vacationed on a very quiet family beach. To stay in an oceanfront beach cottage. What wonderful memories! Mary's Dream made them real again. Thank you!! Mary has thought of everything to make your vacation, not only nostalgic, but very comfortable. The cottage was very clean and provided modern day amenities. The wifi was excellent, esp. since our cell phone reception was minimal. The cable TV provided an excellent selection for viewing. The beds were very comfortable and we slept well. We loved the wrap around porch with gates. Our two poodles loved laying on the deck and we didn't have to worry about them. We had fairly nice weather for January and enjoyed sitting on the porch with our morning coffee. Nothing like the sun, sea and coffee to start your day. Thank you Mary and Richard for allowing us to stay in your cottage. We will be back and soon! Margaret and Tom

  Owner response: It is always our pleasure to share our home and especially so with like minded people like you. We put careful thought into building the decks around 3 sides of our home and covering the one in the middle. We wanted to allow the beach lover who doesn't necessarily want much sun the ability to enjoy the ocean under the covered deck. We also give the beach lover who wants as much sun as they can get the option of two decks; one of the decks has sun in the morning and one has sun until late in the afternoon! The gates were installed at the top of both sets of stairs to allow children and "fur-babies" the ability to run and play while giving parents and grandparents the ability to relax! We are so glad you enjoyed your vacation and look forward to having you return year after year.

  We had never been to Edisto and I have to say that both of us found this house and the area to be our favorite of all our vacations. We try to go someplace different each spring and fall. We hadn't been to South Carolina and our focus was finding a place that we could relax and also be close to Charleston, Beaufort & Savannah for day trips. We brought our 23 year old and 10 year old dogs with us (neither have ever been on a beach) and they loved it as much as we did. The house is wonderful, full of fun and charm. The deck is amazing. Typically on a vacation we like to sleep in, but we found ourselves waking up early in the morning to grab a cup of coffee and witness the most amazing sunrises we have ever seen. It was wonderful to fall asleep to and wake up to the sound of the ocean. Quite frankly, we have never been so sad to leave a vacation home and we have stayed in some top notch houses in the Adirondacks, North Carolina, New Hampshire, etc. We are usually looking forward to going home to our own bed by the end of a week's trip...but the bed (in the master bdrm) was so comfy. Sitting on the deck and watching tons of butterflies go by all day long was magical. We hope to come back again soon. Thank you for sharing this fabulous home.

  We really can't thank you enough for sharing your home with us. It's obvious your house is a home; it's not just a beach house. The love you feel for it shows in every room and we have fallen in love also and can't wait to go back. The clear railings on the deck are such a nice touch! After our shower in the late afternoon we would sit out and have a drink and it was just like being on the beach but no sand! We have spent more money (perhaps I shouldn't say this to you) but never had a better time; we will certainly be back and hope you continue sharing her for at least a few more years before you keep her to yourself; I know I would have a hard time ever sharing her if I owned her! We were happy with the sunshine each day and as the week went by it got warmer and warmer. We stopped in Charleston on the way to Edisto so on Thursday we spent the day in Savannah - it was great, I had never been there before. We also have never checked out Botany Bay - it was beautiful. My husband even went swimming everyday! I'm sending a couple of pictures to show how much we enjoyed our time. Hopefully we can come back again! Blessings on your day Linda

  Just arrived last night and woke up to a beautiful day. We have already walked the beach three times this morning. We love the way your home is set up; it feels like "home" to us already. Two weeks is not going to be enough; three weeks next year? We've definitely found our vacation home and will return as often as you allow us. Thank you!

  On Tuesday while enjoying my morning coffee on the deck a "local" stopped by and said that he walks the beach everyday and had noticed a lot of work on the house had occurred lately and mentioned that this house is the nicest on the whole beach. I assured him that we thought so too and this was our second year visiting. Thanks again for sharing her.

  Thanks you both for letting us stay in your lovely beach house again this year ,we have only been home for three weeks and want to come back right now .(Just love the new HD TV And Wi-Fi you do so much to make it feel like home) The house has never looked better ! Thank the decorator for us! I found a lot of shells this year must have been the storms out at sea and high waves, and i have never seen so many Dolphins, they were up and down the beach like clock work every day.   We were just in your "Dream" for the third year in a row; it is always better than I remember. My favorites: relaxing in the rocking chair on the covered deck while the "girls" are sunbathing, cooking the shrimp on the steamer outside and then throwing them on the table you have built into the deck; I swear they taste better that way), sleeping late (!!) and just enjoying having our friends join us at the beach for a long weekend at the end of our weekly vacation. Love the new flat screen although we didn't watch it much. Thanks!

  This is our 6 year on vacation in "Mary's Dream" and every year it gets harder to leave. We always open up the windows and turn off the a/c and just let the ocean breeze come on through. After the initial shock of no a/c the kids actually had a great time and it reminded me of when I was a kid at the beach! They were all running around in bathing suits (day and night), building sandcastles and big moats and waking up the next day to see if it was all still there. The adults were able to relax on that beautiful covered deck and observe and some of us actually participated. Thank you again for such a great beach house; please don't ever tear it down and build one of those new homes there! We'll be back next year; hopefully for two weeks if you still have it open!

  Hi Mary and Richard! I will write a check for the deposit and get it in the mail this week to secure our stay on the beach at Mary’s Dream in 2012. Thank you, thank you for considering us “family” - you’ve made a wonderful home on the beach and we feel like family every time we visit. After our first year stay I never bothered to even look at other accommodations it was a given that if we were staying in Edisto we were of course staying at Mary’s Dream – JUST like staying at a family cottage.   All 10 of us; grandparents, parents and kids had a great time in your special beach house. We played on the beach all day and games & cards at night. Our Lab swam and chased his ball and couldn't get enough. The way you have the deck with the gates at the top of both of the stairs was just perfect for her to be able to run and play without getting out. We loved the outside shower on the deck with hot and cold water and actually my wife and I went out there and took showers at night under the stars. Don't change a thing; don't fancy it up. Leave it the way it is!

  We just got home from our vacation to Edisto and staying in your wonderful home. So relaxing there. We walked the dogs all over the island, down at the south end, up to the pier, up around the state park, and to the oyster mound. We enjoyed a great meal at the Waterfront and many trips to Flowers seafood to cook fish, peel and eat shrimp, and awesome crab dip. Thanks for the tip on filling up the water containers down in town. We also enjoyed the library and made many trips to the Piggly Wiggly. Spent alot of time out on the deck and really had some nice sunshine yesterday. Thanks again for sharing your nice beach house. We loved Edisto Island and your home and will return!

  Mary, It's 6:48 am and I am sitting with my first cup of coffee watching the sun rise over the ocean. The dogs are chasing a tennis ball that previous Mary's Dream guest's thoughtfully left behind. Mind you they have no interest in a tennis ball at home-it must be the sea air and the thrill of playing with a found object ~ the joy! We arrived to a beautiful day in Edisto and opened the door to the beach house at 4:15. Mary's Dram is lovelier than I remembered! It seems you've been busy - the beautiful hardwood floors appear to have been refreshed, the deck was rejuvenated with a white wash and some new amenities! Wonderful, Wonderful, Wonderful! As we settle in I wanted to thank you again for sharing Mary's Dream. I am so appreciative that we have the opportunity to enjoy time on the ocean with our dog's at Mary's Dream.   Pros - oceanfront, so great views, and access to the beach. Porch is excellent for enjoying the beach (as long as the wind blows, if not then the bugs force you inside but that is typical for Southern Beaches). Cons - Listing photos show the house to be in much better condition than actuality, as several safety and cleanliness issues need to be addressed..

  Recommended for: Pet owners

  Owner response: Emailed this person back and forth while he was there and he never ONCE said anything about any clean issues or anything else. That house is rented app. 40 weeks out of the year and everyone loves that house we have a huge return rental market on that home! I think people that complain AFTER leaving only do so in attempts to get money back for nothing. End of story.

  We chose to stay in Edisto so we could visit our son who is stationed at the Marine Corps Air Station in Beaufort. We had everything we needed at Mary's Dream, from wi-fi for my college student to fishing for my son in the Marine Corps, beach combing and boogie boarding for the 10 year olds, not to mention the historical sites and the kayaking trip, we all found plenty to do and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house was clean and comfortable and exceeded our expectations. We loved the non-commercialized environment on Edisto Island. The people were so friendly. We can't wait to come back next year. Thank you Richard and Mary for the best vacation we have ever taken!

  We just got back and really enjoyed our vacation at your cottage! We will be contacting you again next year. This was our first time to Edisto Island and we really enjoyed it.

  Good morning Richard and Mary... We had such a wonderful and relaxing time at "Mary's Dream." I think I was able to read several books and still do a lot of exploring. There is so much history in Edisto, we spent some time walking through the grave yard at the Methodist church, that in itself was incredible. We discovered with your help several local restaurants, talk about delicious, wow.....I do believe we consumed tons of fresh shrimp, clams, crabs and oysters and also had the opportunity to watch the shrimpers trawl just off shore. We were sitting right on the deck and what a view. Speaking of views, I thought we had gorgeous sunrises and sunsets down here on Melbourne Beach, Edisto topped both and Mary's Dream tops any home we've every vacationed in. Thank you again for allowing two aging beauties and their critters to share your Beach House. Merodie and Miss Samantha

  Mary & Richard, We must be living right!! What a wonderful 2 weeks we had in Mary's Dream. Sun every day - temp. 70-80. The house was in great shape and we look forward to our two weeks again next year. Just wanted to let you know we definitely want to again reserve the last week of April and first week of May in 2008 and if the second week in May becomes available please let us know. Tyler & Suzy
