Location: Killington, Vermont, USA (Pittsfield - 8 miles to Killington slopes) View Map
Accommodations: House, 3 Bedrooms + Den, 2.25 Baths (Sleeps 12-15)
Keywords: House
Set on a private road in the hills just north of Pittsfield, our house welcomes you - winter or summer. Right in the heart of the Northeast’s best winter-sports, it is very convenient to the Killington and Pico ski resorts. Sugarbush, Okemo, and the famous Mad River Glen are all within easy reach for day trips. For golfers, Vermont’s #1 public golf course, Green Mountain National, is only ten minutes away, and in addition to Killington's own course, there are about 20 other excellent courses within an hour’s drive.
The house is a comfortable and spacious (2,000+ sq.ft) three-bedroom contemporary split into four levels. It’s a perfect place to relax and have fun whether you’re on your own or with a group. With the large living area, the dining room and the den on different levels, the house caters to large numbers of people yet still affords privacy. While you soak up the heat of the big fieldstone fireplace upstairs, the gang could be watching TV or playing games downstairs.
The kitchen is big enough for family eat-in, and the dining room seats 10-12 comfortably. The two upper levels are especially bright and airy with high cathedral ceilings and numerous skylights. The two bedrooms on the lower middle level sleep 3 & 4 respectively and share a recently remodeled full bath. The master bedroom on the lower ground level sleeps 5 and has its own bathroom.
Though the ski areas and golf courses are probably the main attractions, there are a number of activities available right from the doorstep. Picturesque hiking/snowshoeing trails lead straight from the house into the vast forests of the Green Mountains. There are other trails nearby (no need to drive) that are suitable for cross country skiing or mountain biking. And if you’re into something even more vigorous, the Vermont snowmobile trail network (VAST) is accessible from less than a half mile away.
In addition to the above, there are facilities for tennis, racquetball, bungee jumping (yikes!), alpine slide, swimming, fishing streams, tubing, music, theater, shopping, and any number of other activities nearby.
The ’10-’11 ski season was a major success with a full house nearly straight through. Please visit the guest book/review section for comments and reviews that previous renters have made. This summer we will complete more improvements, and the property is again available for short-term rentals over summer and fall 2011 - and of course for the ’11-’12 ski season. Killington Area - Great Value! Clean, Comfortable, Sleeps 12+
Year Purchased: 1986
Why the Owner Chose Killington
I have always been a skier. I started going up to Killington from New York in the early eighties, renting and organizing share houses to be able to afford the season's ski pass and the gas in my old Pontiac. On occasion I would bring my parents along and they decided they liked the area - especially in the fall and summer. Hence the decision to buy a house there - on condition that I help defray the costs by running it as a share house in the winter.
It was great fun for many years but when I moved overseas again it was impractical to run as before. So I started renting it by the season, and now for short-termers as well. I now own the house and this site has been a real benefit to keeping the place going. Though the rent never really manages to pay all the bills, I get good reviews and they encourage me to invest in making the house more and more comfortable every year.
When I'm lucky, I can occasionally squeeze between bookings and enjoy the place myself for a few days!
Owner's Map of Killington
I'm probably not your average Vermont vacation home landlord. Though I consider myself to be from New York City, I have lived and worked all over the world - but primarily with a focus on telecommunications in Africa. Though I may have only played a small part, I can lay claim to having contributed over the last 15 years to providing mobile telephone services to more than 300 million people on the continent. When I first started, there were fewer telephones in Africa than in Manhattan - mobile or otherwise!
Still on the same crusade, I am now based in Cairo (but working in Burundi) after having lived ten years in Holland. So I have a few more new languages to learn!

This house was just as described and better...very very clean and well maintained. Everything you need (from dishes to pots to hand towels and washer /dryer were available)...there were even a few snow sleds!!! Very private location but close to the action too. Just outside a quaint town with a general store/gasoline and a quick ride to the base of the mountain and the "action" if you like. Also, within walking distance of the national forest/trails...such a beautiful sight. Owner is great to do business with...such a pleasure (he was always available via phone/email). Would recomend to anyone (from young to old).
Owner response:Thanks for a great review! Very flattering. If you're happy then I'm happy! And of course, you're welcome back anytime! David

Thank you so much for a fabulous family vacation! The house was the perfect size for our family gathering and had everything we needed. The location is great - our kids went skiing at Killington while we went sightseeing, antiquing, hikiing and shopping. Evenings were filled with cooking together, games, music and playing pool. We spent 3 nights prior to Christmas, and even though there wasn't any snow on the ground, the slopes were open with great powder skiing. Thanks David for a wonderful vacation, we would definitely rent again! Peggy

Our family of 4 had a great time at your house over Thanksgiving weekend! The house was perfect - very comfortable and spacious! The kids loved the pool table and my husband loved the wood-burning stove! Very convenient to Killington. Down the street from the general store and a couple of good restaurants. We will definitely return! And the skiing/riding was great! 28 trails open and no lift lines!!

The house is big and has a lot of room. We enjoyed how the house had so much open space and also the natural light coming in through the windows. The house is situated in a peaceful and quiet area surrounded by natural beauty. The house has everything that we needed for a week vacation. Dealing with David was a nice experience. He was thorough and very organised. He kept us well informed before we arrived because of some road construction that was being done during our stay.

We recently rented this house over the summer and what a great house it is. It has everything you would need and the owner David could not be more accommodating. The house has plenty of room for sleeping and entertaining. It's kid friendly with games etc and dog friendly as well. My only suggestion would be a BBQ. Other then that David has thought of everything. All in all a very pleasant stay

Your home was very nice. The other 2 couples also enjoyed it immensely. Obviously, it's much better than a hotel or whatever for keeping couples together, and there was plenty of room. Right down the road is Green Mtn National Golf Course - beautiful course. Very thorough and convenient directions and instructions. Nice owner and easy to communicate with.

It is truly nice to stay in a home that is well maintained and that the owner shows a sense of pride and care in the home. We stayed a week in July and had a great time in this comfortable home. It afforded our family space, comfort and privacy. The home is clean and the neighborhood is quiet. We really enjoyed the view of the mountains and stargazing on the deck!

Hello David, Thank you for letting us rent your home, we had an awesome time! It was my first time skiing in 60+ degree weather! The snow actually held up better than I thought, although all trails were makeshift moguls by 2pm which became pretty tiring, but we still had a blast. It was a beautiful weekend altogether and we really enjoyed the calmness, especially the sound of the nearby brook/stream.
