Mountain Laurel Cottage is a secluded rental cabin tucked in the mountain laurels at Brasstown, North Carolina, one mile from the John C. Campbell Folk School. You can experience John C. Campbell and the Blue Ridge Mountains while maintaining your contact with the outside world -- the best that it can be!
It is a perfect place to rent if you are visiting the folk school or just seeking a quiet escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Even though it is easily accessible to a paved road, you will think you are in a world of your own. The cottage is surrounded by laurels and pine trees giving you a sense of seclusion and privacy. Each season brings its own nature show as the laurels, dogwoods, wild azaleas; wild violets, lady slippers, and trillium take their turn blooming.
Mountain Laurel Cottage's rock exterior is made from local fieldstone. The same stone mason that did many of the buildings at the John C. Campbell Folk School set the stone. Field stone was also used for the gas log fireplace that adds romantic charm to the interior. Mountain Laurel Cottage was built in 1951 and was completely renovated in 2001. As much of the original features and woodwork as possible were retained. The cottage has ~500 square feet of floor space with an elevated natural white pine ceiling, stained pine walls and wood floors. This cozy and charming hideaway will accommodate two people as it has two X-long twin beds.
At Mountain Laurel you will find hand made pottery for all of the dishes, coffee cups, serving bowls, etc.. -- pottery that we have made specifically for your enjoyment and use in Mountain Laurel Cottage. |
