Why the Owner Chose Majahual

We picked this area of Mexico because we wanted a quiet, beautiful, and secluded place to live. Cancun and Playa del Carmen are great, but after awhile the crowds are too much. Here we have miles of powder white sand beach all to ourselves - a great little town nearby to visit, go fishing or diving in, have a meal, or perhaps rent a Jet ski for a few hours - without huge crowds to compete with. The reef along the coast is one of the most pristine I have yet to dive - and there is so much to do in the area. We love it here.

The Unique Benefits at this Twin Home/Duplex

For those that like side trips and adventures this area is fantastic. From Zip lining over the jungle near Bacalar, to diving, numerous great Mayan ruins, Bacalar and the "Lake of the Seven colors" - or just a quiet evening meal on the beach of "Bochenette" (wonderful grilled fish) - the area is hard to beat if you want to relax. On cruise ships days the Malecon in Majahaul has lots of shops open and you can para-sail or get a great massage right on the beach. If you can't relax here you never will.

Owner's Map of Majahual

I fell in love with the "Costa Maya" area of Mexico several years ago. My wife took a bit longer - one trip to our new home. We are now retired living in what we feel is paradise. Day time temperatures in the 80's - nights in the 70's - ocean breeze all the time - a reef in front of our home with great snorkeling and an occasional lobster for dinner. The photo is of me and our two caretakers (veladors) - Santiago and Ester - two of the nicest people you will ever meet. Guest so far have told us staying at "Casa Que Canta" was the best vacation they ever head. Perhaps it will be same for you.

    • We stayed at Casa Que Canta only 4 days, Sept 2nd - 6th. It was way too short. There were 5 couples and we had the entire beach to ourselves. Ester and Santiago, the caretakers, are very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed every minute we spent there and will definitely rent it again. I highly recommend this place for those of you that don't want to deal with a bunch of tourist but still wish to see paradise.

    • We stayed here for two weeks in July 2008. The photos do not do this place justice, you will be so psyched when you pull up and see it for the first time. It was a perfect place to have a relaxing, beautiful time. The tradewinds provide cool air no matter what the temperature inland, the caretakers are gems, and there are so many wonderful spots for sitting and relaxing (chaise lounges, sofa grouping on the balcony, chairs on the private upstairs balcony, comfy couch in the courtyard facing the ocean, huge raft chairs for the water, lots of beach and sand, and hamocks that Santiago will expertly put up for you anywhere you choose! Mahahual is tiny and really grew on us. Friendly people, great cheap food, small stores with most of the things you will need. We did not see an American tourist our whole stay, so be prepared to fully experience Mexico if you go. The closest ruin might be smaller than at Tulum, but we had it to ourselves and an excellent guide, so really got to experience the place. Bacalar is about 45 minutes away with lots of fun daytrips and Mexican, but no American, tourists. Cenote Azul and the restaurant at it were a highlight, the adults could sit back and enjoy the evening while kids swam in beautiful water. This place is a real find!

    • We stayed from March 25 - April 1st, 2008. We had a wonderful time and the home is just beautiful! The caretakers, Santiago and Esther, are the nicest people. They will do as much or as little as you request from them and they go out of their way to respect your privacy. Majuahaul is nearby and a fun place to visit...they are working hard to recover from Dean. The beach is so fun for shell hunting and the snorkeling is great. This is the perfect place to get away from the typical touristy, busy resort-type vacation. We enjoyed our stay very much!
