                                      • There are five Mount St. Helens visitor centers located on State Highway 504, the main route into the National Volcanic Monument. Each offers different educational exhibits and viewing opportunities, along with shops, refreshments, and restrooms. Most offer access to trails. The best way to experience the mountain is to spend a full day, or more, driving east on highway 504, stopping at visitor centers, trails, and view points along the way. The extent of the devastation - obvious even three decades after the 1980 eruption - unfolds with each mile. Yet you will also see nature's amazing recovery, plants and animals of all kinds. If you only have a short time to spend on your Mount St. Helens visit, the visitor center at Silver Lake is located just off Interstate 5 and offers excellent exhibits and a moving film. If you have time to drive all the way in, but can only stop at a single visitor center, choose the Johnston Ridge Observatory. Both offer stunning views into the volcano's crater. Note: Volcano viewing is highly dependent on the weather. However, if visibility does not allow a view of Mount St. Helens itself, spending time in the blast zone, visiting the centers, and hiking along interpretive trails is still an experience of a lifetime. APE CAVES Mount St. Helens Ape Cave Lava Tube is a popular attraction in the Mount St. Helens National Monument and the longest lava tube in the continental United States at over two miles in length. The Ape Caves are located on the south side of Mount St. Helens and accessed through Woodland - go up highway 503 past Cougar. Driving time from I-5 and highway 504 where all the Mount St. Helens Visitor Centers are to the Ape Cave is just over an hour. The Ape Caves are open year-round though the parking lot gets snowed in during the winter. ...moreless

I brought my boyfriend here for his birthday. It was absolutely beautiful that weekend and the cabin is everything you could want! We spent one day at the Ape Caves, which is beyond amazing and the next day we went to Mt St Helens. A great location and not too far from any one place you want to go see. When we left, we were talking on our way home and trying to plan our next trip back to this same place.

This is the most peaceful cabin we have ever rented. It is just as described in the listing. The owner goes out of his way to make you feel right at home. He, and the very sweet lady he has helping him, have taken care of every detail-- even bug spray, if needed at the lake. All you need are groceries if you plan to do any cooking. The log beds are beautiful and add to the ambiance of the cabin. This is a great location for Mount St. Helens exploring and only a two hour scenic drive to the coast. It is secluded, and yet close enough to a decent sized city for those who don't want to cook. This is definitely the cabin to rent for a small family.

We stayed at the cabin for 3 nights and just had a wonderful time. The cabin is clean, well kept, comfortable and great for a small family. We had our 15 month old with us and once we moved the amazing quantity of knickknacks out of the way the place was perfect. Reasonable price, clean and well kept, nicely supplied...just bring your food and you are good to go. The best condo we've ever rented, no question.

Everything was exactly how described and reflected in the photos. We enjoyed ourselves 100 percent. The cabin was so cute and everything was there that we needed. The fireplace worked great which my husband appreciated(he loves his wood heat). We explored the south side of Mt St Helens which had so many hiking trails to chose from. It was great having a home base so close to all the activities we wanted to do. I was lucky to meet the owner and I got to meet her wonderful dachshund family(they were sooooo darling). We would stay there again in a heartbeat.

What a great spot and close access to Mount St Helen's sites. Great cabin in the woods. Very comfortable, peaceful, relaxing and clean. Well thought out with lots of character and charm. Loved our stay at this cabin. We recommend this cabin for other travelers. One of our favorite accommodations while on vacation in the Pacific Northwest. Owners are very welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable about the area and Mount St Helen's experience and history.

This was the perfect get away from the kiddos, just the two of us. However, I'm planning another trip back taking them along next time as I know they'd love it. This cabin had everything in it, even complimentary tea, movies and games. All you have to do is bring your food! It rained our whole trip so we couldn't see the mountain, but we couldn't care less knowing we had such a nice cabin to go back to! Such a nice place to escape from all the craziness of life! Thank you to the beautiful couple who allow the rest of us a nice getaway!

We only spent one night here but would have loved to stay longer. This cabin is the perfect size--small and cozy yet roomy. The fireplace keeps it nice and toasty! We appreciated the movie selection, too. Tucked away in the woods, feels very private. Beautiful views of the lake and the mountain (on a clear day). We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to be back!
