We were a group of 11 girls who had booked this home for a ski trip. A huge blizzard was predicted and we were forced to leave a day early. Kristen assured me she would prepare the house since no one had booked the night before yet. It ended up being only 8 girls to make the journey and we ended up stranded all night on the interstate. Kristen knew we were traveling in this storm and called to check on us. This touched me more than I can say! The house was perfect for our group and would have more than accommodated our larger group. We relaxed in the hottub, played games, and cooked all of our meals. The kitchen was fully stocked with all needed utensils and even had extra spices. We did have an oven issue which Kristen promptly remedied. The beds were more comfortable than mine at home as were the pillows. I wish I had looked at the brands because we were all jealous! We also all loved the furnished robes that we would put on after getting out of the hottub, they were warm and cute! The checkout procedure was simple and Kristen even mailed back a pair of earrings one of the girls had left behind! I have stayed at many VRBO homes and I have to say I have never experienced customer service like this one! Thank you, Kristen for going above and beyond and we would love to stay in your home again for a future trip. Also, thank you for promptly refunding my security deposit and not charging me for our night stuck on the highway. You are an amazing individual!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

Group of 9 from Houston came to ski and just happened to find this house on VBRO.I can’t say enough about how wonderful it is, house is in a great location and full of old charm! The accommodations where top notch and everyone in the group loved the place. Thanks to the owners for such a wonderful home and making us all feel right at home here, we could not have asked for more. We for sure will stay again if we have the chance to Ski here again or visit in the summer. I would recommend the house to anyone, thank you so much to the owners!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Twelve high school girlfriends gathered at Capital Casa in July to celebrate 51 years of friendship. We moved in after very frequent detailed and prompt communication and planning with the owners. We felt totally at home in the house and in the quiet neighborhood - walked everywhere, found wonderful shopping and restaurants nearby and used the back patio every morning for coffee and conversation. There was plenty of parking, a welcoming front porch and comfortable and sparkling clean beds and bathrooms. With so many possibilities in the area, we took in a performance at the Santa Fe opera, a visit to Vanessie's piano bar, dinner at Cafe Pascual's and Bobcat Bite as well as many area museums and galleries. We highly recommend Capital Casa for a reunion of friends or family vacation.Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

I stayed at Capitol Casa with my husband and 8 other friends and had a wonderful time. We have been vacationing together for the last 23 years, and found that this house had everything we needed. The gardens were lovely and the house was well equipped. All of the beds were comfortable, although one of the couples in the group thought the trundle bed downstairs near the laundry room was a little too soft. We couldn't have picked a better location, walking distance to restaurants and museums, and only a short drive to casinos, white water rafting, and Taos. Thank you for thinking of everything!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We had 10 people stay comfortably in this nice house with the huge advantage of being able to walk everywhere. Less than 10 minutes to the Plaza and restaurants/shopping, and a grocery and coffee shop one block away. Nice and quiet with a patio out back. We really enjoyed our stay!Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.

A group of six of us had a long weekend getaway to see the sights and sounds of SF/Taos. We had a great time - the house was a perfect base for seeing the downtown sights and Canyon Road galleries. The house did not lack for anything - they even had martini glasses! Grocery store with good gourmet selections was just a block away. Hottub was great at night. Next SF trip we'll being staying there again.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

This is a large, charming home filled with thoughtful furnishings and suited to groups of various sizes and configurations. We received excellent communication throughout the rental process, and would not hesitate to stay at Capitol Casa when we return to Santa Fe. The location is phenomenal, but the street is quiet, residential. The owners have decorated the home with lovely and eclectic pieces, as well as with practical ones where needed. The beds were comfortable and the linens were excellent. Everything was clean and fresh. The entire experience was great from beginning to end.Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We booked the Capitol Casa for a group of 10 girls - our annual Aggie girls trip! We have been traveling together for almost 20 years visiting many cities and trying differen types of lodging. This was by far our favorite trip! The house was superb for a large group of ladies. We had several areas to congregate and chat over (many) bottles of wine! The bedding was delicious as was the general decor. We walked to town several times a day, drove to Ten Thousand Waves Spa, and even cabbed it to and from El Arbol for some dancing. We all look forward to our next visit!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

For a family reunion the front porch and dining area with a huge dining room table provided helpful gathering places. Individual a/c units were appreciated as well. Service personnel prepared the hot tub, and a friendly gardener hoped that he did not disturb the occupants. The location is outstanding, providing walking distance to the sights and sites of downtown Santa Fe. There were lots of games for the young people, and the accommodation of 16 people was greatly appreciated.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

About the owner: Owners Kristen and Steve Flance are long-time residents and active citizens of Santa Fe. Kristen has been with the state magazine, New Mexico Magazine, as lead advertising representative for 28 years, as well as doing interior decorating for high end resorts. Steve has volunteered for many community organizations including serving as chairman of the board of the New Mexico Finance Authority for 8 years, and has developed residential communities and resorts in Santa Fe for many years. We know New Mexico well and enjoy sharing our knowledge of Santa Fe and the state with our guests. We vacation at our lakefront home at Tahoe (VRBO/1946).
Why the Owner Chose Private Homes, Historical Downtown:
Our office is in a great location downtown, and when the house next door went on the market we bought it for a guest house. Having enjoyed renting our vacation home at Tahoe to nice folks, and realizing that we could personally manage this one, the decision to make it a vacation rental was simple. The perfect location in the downtown core close to the Plaza and Canyon Road, the legal commercial zoning, the house's large size and excellent condition, make it a wonderful place for visitors to stay. Kristen had fun furnishing the home with original art, antiques, old collectibles from the Southwest, and historic items found in Santa Fe that are appropriate to the age of the house which was built in 1924. Three sofas, good firm beds, expandable oak dining table, and large hot tub all make the home comfortable for gatherings large or small.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Everyone loves the downtown location, and walking back and forth from the house. We love walking to restaurants and events, galleries and stores, meetings at the State Capitol. No problems with parking! We walk to Kaune's Food Town to pick up sandwiches and groceries. Quiet street with little traffic. See our guests' comments for what they enjoy about the house.
