Our large family rented this Sunset Cliffs property for a reunion/birthday celebration. Megan made everything easy, as did having the property manager right next door. The house and grounds have a real sense of privacy, with lush and lovely landscaping around the salt water pool and spa. Even on a chilly day, the heater made the pool usable. Indeed, the pool area is, as we all commented, one of the nicest we've seen; the secure fencing and graduated depths also make this property suitable for small (but supervised) children. The beach walk four blocks down the hill and Sunset Cliffs Beach 20 minutes away by foot gave our group plenty to do. Inside, the house has abundant group and private space. Each bedroom is self-contained with bath and plenty of closet space. The large, sunny kitchen made it easy to prepare meals for our group of 10, eating indoors or out. We also enjoyed the indoor and outdoor gas fireplaces and overall comfort and attention to detail in this property. Highly recommended both for visitors to San Diego and locals wanting a locale for a family get away.

I rented this house for a long weekend for all of my relatives to stay at. I am a San Diego native, so I knew the location was good (just a short walk to Sunset Cliffs or OB). It's also close to Point Loma and the 8 freeway to take you to a lot of other destinations. When my relatives and I stayed at the house we were all very satisfied. The rooms were comfortable and on the large size. I loved the open layout of the place, great for big meals together. And to top it all off the salt water pool and hot-tub are a dream! The kids and the adults loved it and I appreciated everyone not smelling like chlorine when they got out of the pool. Thanks so much for a great stay!

We stayed at "the Orchard House" for 9 days and didn't want it to end! There are 12 of us including kids, and we had plenty of room for everyone and everything. The layout of the house is perfect, plenty of room for the group to be together, or to find some private space if you need it. And ofcourse I have not even raved about the pool yet.....we absolutely loved it, perfect for the kids and adults alike. Our only regret was not getting in the pool earlier in the evening, because it was really fun for the adults at night - but the 10pm outside activities (yes all activities, including a simple conversation between 2 people) cutoff is not flexible at all and was the only bummer of the entire 9 days. That said it didn't put a hamper on our fun or our review of the experience overall. I live only a few blocks away from this location (family came in from out of town) and rarely even went home because we were enjoying the house so much. We can also see how the house would be a fun winter rental - going to think about doing the holidays there some time!

We stayed for a week and wished it was two. The views are awesome from the house. The location is great! You are close to everything - zoo, Sea World, Horton Plaza, La Jolla, Mt. Soledad, PB, Mission Beach and the roller coaster, and best of all a walk to OB (Sunset Cliffs, the pier, beach, and downtown area). Plenty of places to eat or shop and cook at the house. Megan was very accommodating. The space in the house is terrific. The rooms are very nice. We loved our view from the master bedroom. Loved having a washer and dryer. The pool is terrific regardless of age. Overall, fantastic week!

Our large family had a marvelous week in the greater San Diego area and found the property listed here...#148499...outstanding for our needs. The outside pool and hot tub were delightful and very safe for small children. The beds and bathrooms and all facilities accomodated our group and we were able to congregate in large groups or small groups. We never felt crunched-in. The home is well taken care of and we would definitely return and hope to do so in the future. I recommend this property without hesitation.

We had a large group staying at the house and it was a great experience. The view from the house is even better than in the pictures. The pool is perfect for small children, as it is nice and small, has a walk-in entrance on the side, and not too deep. My kids loved it. There is more than enough room for 10+ people. The location is also great, as it's a short walk to downtown Ocean Beach and a few blocks from the cliffs overlooking the ocean. The owner was very responsive when we had questions or issues, and she even sent me a DVD that we left at the house when we left. Overall, it was a fantastic place, and I highly recommend it.

We stayed here with a group of our friends from the East coast and everyone loved the house! The views are fantastic, we walked to get coffee and bagels every morning, and could run to the beach as we liked. It has a lot of charm with the exposed brick in the living room and lots of wood accents. We easily had enough room for everyone and all enjoyed the fire pit each night. I would definitely recommend this house to any group of friends or large family!

We stayed here for my partner's 30th birthday celebration, and we were thrilled to see it looked exactly like its pictures. There were 10 of us and there was more than enough room for everybody, plus it felt very cosy. It feels more like a cabin in Big Bear than a beach house in San Diego, but that's not really a complaint, just an observation. The lagoon/pool outside is truly unique and beautiful and feels like your own private sanctuary. The house had most everything you imagine needing during your stay and Megan was easy to communicate with about the rental. In fact, we were having a problem getting the Jacuzzi going on our first day and she sent someone out to check on it and fix it within the hour.

I rented this house for a surprise birthday party with 10 friends flying in from the east coast last weekend....and we loved the house!! It slept 10 people perfectly and it was nice each room had it's own bathroom so we weren't getting into each other's way. The view off the main deck and master suite are perfect to catch a great sunset. But I think the pool and hot tub were our favorite part of the house! Overall this was a beautiful rental, with a great view and Megan was fabulous to work with. Thanks so much for a great weekend!

My family and I, which included adults and children, had the pleasure of staying at this beautiful clean house. The pictures and description dont lie! It is a very clean house with a great backyard, which had a beach front pool with jacuzzi. The kids loved it! The pool heated in like 20 mins. It has a great patio area that overlooks the ocean. We enjoyed our stay very much, mostly because of the house. I would recommend everyone to make use of it as a vacation rental. Also, the owner, Ms. Kirkwood, is very nice and attentive. She responded to all our inquiries and questions. Thank you for sharing your home with us! We hope to utilize it again.

This place made our trip! The description was right on the money. We were so happy with this home. Each couple had their own room and bathroom. The kids bunked in the Family room. I had coffee by the fire place in the morning and watched the sun set off our balcony in the evening. The kids so enjoyed the pool and the "jungle" in the back yard with bananas growing on the tree! Roasted marshmellows over the fire pit. We ate dinner off the grill at the picnic table on the balcony off of the Family room. Megan has the place decorated so nice and she is a fantastic owner. We will rent here again...we can hardly wait!

My family of 6 plus 2 had the pleasure of staying in San Diego in Early Sept. 2010. The weather was terrific, the house was clean comfortable and everyone had their own full bathroom! The kitchen is excellent. It is close to Sea World and San Diego Zoo (5-10 minutes) and it was very easy to find the house. The neighbourhood was nice and we had a chance to sample the food at "Ranchos" which was incredible and only a minute from the house. There was also a small supermarket very close as well. We drove a bit further towards the Naval Base and shopped at the Vons store which was absolutely delightful! The kids really enjoyed the hot tub. We didn't get home early enough in the day to enjoy the pool. The only negatives were the darn parrots that serenaded us in the mornings about 6 am and the air traffic that began about the same time. Otherwise it was perfect and we would definitely stay there again. Thanks again Megan for your hospitality! The Blackmore's

We had a fantastic stay here in Mid-August. This house was ideal for our large party. The layout of the house is such that you never feel on top of one another. The views are spectacular from 2 separate balconies, and the location is very convenient and close to the beach, restaurants, Sea World, the Zoo, airport, downtown, and all freeways. The house felt very comfortable, and the interior furnishings are very stylish and clean. There were plenty of big, comfy beds (and towels, and throws, and pillows). I wouldn't do the house justice without mentioning the pool and landscaping...both are simply gorgeous. The kitchen is well-appointed and conducive to feeding a large group. The neighbors were helpful with recommendations, and the property manager was very swift in replacing a broken outdoor chair during our stay. I highly recommend staying at this property and will do so again should we have another opportunity!

Our family (nine adults and one child) stayed from May 20th through the 22nd. We were in San Diego for our son's wedding. Could not have been happier with the house and all its amenities. Beautiful views. Plenty of room for everyone. Do not need an alarm clock--the wild parrots will be sure to wake you--such fun. Would definitely stay there again on a future visit. Megan was very helpful.

Out family stayed in the home from November 17 through the 22nd. It was convenient to what we were doing, clean and gave us the feeling of being at home. The support persons were very helpful and pleasant. If we are going back to San Diego I will not hesitate to use this house again. The house is spacious and the view is great. The beach is close. I would recrommend you consider this if you are going to the Sunset Cliffs, Point Loma area.

WHAT A BEAUTIFUL HOME, thank you Megan and family! The house is exactly as described - and even more! Quiet neighborhood with gorgeous sunset views from the decks, which we enjoyed every evening. We had the pleasure of meeting/talking with their neighbor/property manager and the pool man was there twice during our stay to be sure everything was perfect! We cannot say enough how much we enjoyed vacationing here and are planning on returning next year for even longer!!

This has been a terrific vacation! The house is perfectly accomodating for a large family with small kids. The pool was great and the fire pit made for some great family evenings with smores. The Ocean Beach area is also great for walking around - the Wednesday farmers' market is a must - great food and live music. Don't miss out on fish tacos at the Ocean Breach Bar & Grill - lobster tacos are awesome (our 18 months old would eat two for dinner and ask for more). Kids loved climbing around the Cabrillo National - make sure to go at low tide to take advantage of the beach. Many thanks to the Kirkwoods for openning their beautiful and warm house to us. Best, The Moens

Thank you to Megan and her family for letting us stay at her very beautiful home. After a bustling 6 days in Anaheim, our stay at the Kirkwoods' in San Diego was the perfect end for our spring break family vacation. For any families planning a vacation using the "Southern California Pass," I would highly recommend staying in San Diego after going to Disneyland and Universal Studios. The Kirkwoods' house was so close to Sea World (5-10 mins.), San Diego Zoo (15 mins.), the Wild Animal Park (45-60 mins.),and Legoland (40 mins.). There were also so many shops and restaurants in the neighborhood and the house had all the comforts and conveniences of home. We barbecued every night on the deck and yes, the sunsets rival those of Hawaii! What a wonderful place to stay with our family. Thank you!

I just want to thank you for sharing your great home! We had a blast. San Diego is always great, but the home added so much. I have vrbo rentals too and that is mostly how we travel now, but I find many of them sparse and uninviting. Your home is one of the few we enjoyed as much as our own. The home is decorated, pictures on the walls, great bedding, nice towels and great furnishings. Touches like the blanket throws--I just don't find alot of owners providing all that. I love a vrbo to feel like a home--thats part of the joy of NOT staying in a hotel-those little touches. So thank you. The pool and spa were wonderful, as well as the games. We spent one afternoon and evening just hanging out at the house. We loved it-thanks.

I would echo all the other comments. The furniture, dishes, appliances, are all very high quality. I'd love to live there! Everything was very clean and fresh. The pool was great, really unique. Central location is great. Neighborhod is very pleasant. It was really a unique house with lots of character, in fact my grandmother said she was going to go home and tell everyone she stayed in a Frank Lloyd Wright house.

We were celebrating our 50th Golden Anniversary and this home fit our needs very well. All family members enjoyed the pool, eating arrangments and relaxing after the day at the area attactions. We are great grandparents and enjoyed having the "Whole" family staying in one place yet still had privacy and comfort of special times together. We would recommend your home to our friends, you as hosts were most helpful and honest about your "Luxury" home. Thanks again, Virginia Biederman

Each bedroom has its own bathroom which makes for privacy for guests, but there is also plenty of eating and sitting areas for everyone to be together. The beach is nearby, but the pool in the backyard is also very fun. We had a relaxing time enjoying the beautiful weather and enjoying each other’s company at the house.

We had a lovely stay at this Pt.Loma beauty. Quite open and roomy but also cozy and homey allowing for family and friends to gather with ease. The bedrooms each have a bathroom and the beds are heavenly to rest in. Each room is decorated tastefully, sheets are top-notch. Nice feature to have laundry facilities in the master BR, they run very quietly. The kitchen is well equipped, and set-up very practically, with a breakfast nook. Outside is lush and family friendly with a terrific hot tub and refreshing pool. This location is perfect for a quick run to the market, a walk to the beach, a pick-up at the airport, or day trip to town. Airport is close but not noisy. We didn't do the resort attractions, but they are close also. Owners were very accommodating. We'll be back.
