We shared this home with another family and had plenty of room. The bedrooms are large with great views. The family room and kitchen are great for large gatherings. It is 5 minutes from Crested Butte and 10 minutes from the mountain. Even though snow was dumped on us, the driveway and roads were maintained. This was not our first time to stay at Shangri-La and we will definitely be back. I highly recommend this home.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, families with teenagers.

We felt like we had stepped into an enchanted world... My friend and I stayed at Shangri La in Crested Butte at the height of the changing of the leaves in September 09. We arrived in Crest Butte at dusk, but had no difficulty locating the house. The arrival instructions were simple and clear. We felt like we had stepped into an enchanted world, upon entering this magnificent log home. We were truly in touch with the Old West, which is part of the fun of visiting the Rocky Mountains. Despite the large log detail, the house still has a wonderful feeling of intimacy and coziness. We stayed in the master suite, and felt completely at home. We used the outdoor spa each evening, and it was so wonderful after hikes and climbs each day. We ate breakfast each morning at the house, and were quite pleased with how well stocked the house is with such nice glassware, plates and silverware. The views from the bedroom were as good as from the great room. The soaring ceilings in the living room are dramatic, and the views back toward the Butte and the village are sensational. There is no question that our first choice for lodging on our next journey to Crested Butte will be Shangri La. Shangri-La is a beautiful home set against the backdrop of Crested Butte's breathtaking mountains and remarkable scenic views. There are plentiful hiking trails and Crested Butte Mountain Resort is just minutes away. You can even fish along the East River(fishing rights from property)! And there's a golf course nearby for golf lovers. At Shangri-La, we definetely enjoyed many meals in the lovely kitchen, with awesome mountain views surrounding us through the large windows. Shangri- La has many delightful areas of the house. I loved the winding log staircase to 2nd floor, pool table on 2nd floor, and bigscreen t.v. in the family room. The house has plenty of room to relax and have your own private space. I can't wait to go back to Shangri-La!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, people with disabilities, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

Year Purchased: 2005
About the owner: Lise and I are both from Norway, and after having built up a shipping company in New York we retired to Bermuda. After a few years we developed island fever and realized how much we missed the mountains. We considered the options of Norway, the Alps or the Rocky Mountains. I Ching pointed us to the Rockies and this is how we ended up in fabulous Crested Butte. The house was built in 2003.
