Returned last night from our 7 night stay in this property. Kapa'a is the perfect location, and central to whatever direction you want to go. We especially loved being close to the beach and walking trail. You can walk to the beach if you desired, I saw people walking the road everyday, however, 3 minutes by car, then hours of walking and hiking along the oceanfront are available. The unit was clean, and perfect for 2 people. We cooked most our meals in, and the amenities and utensils worked perfect. The large DVD selection was nice too. My only big disappointment, was the outdoor dining and deck under the covered patio in front where you could enjoy meals, coffee, wine and sunsets were not available to. it was gated off the a private sign on the stairs. The pleasant tenant in the front unit, however offered us a table and tiki torches for on the lawn. We declined the use of the lawn, and it was disappointing that we were not able to spend more time enjoying the ocean views front the property, with the benefit of the covered patio to protect us from the elements; wind, rain and sun. Overall, our stay was good, we enjoyed this over a stay in a hotel or condo and would recommend the property, it was quiet, convenient and relaxing. It should however be disclosed that the deck/table and chairs are not available for use.

This place fit the description and the owner was very responsive to any requests or questions. We explored the beautiful island with convenience of home setting in the local community. Location is ideal to travel any direction. Because we are on GF diet, we cooked most of our meals and I discovered how easy to cook w/ 2-3 small appliances and bbq gril. We had a last night departure, and the owner was kind to let us check out as late as we could.

I loved my stay at the suite in Kawai. It was very comfy and was a much better alternative to a stay in a hotel. The beach was so close by and the whales were visible right from the garden and outdoor dining area. At first, I was a little put off by the idea of no heating or air conditioning but when I arrived I realized that the climate was so temperate that it really wasn't necessary. There were many different things to do-i sort of wish i had a longer stay. The locals were very nice-as well as Mary, the owner. The only thing that bugged me was the roosters crowing in the morning, but by the end of my stay I got used to it and realized that it kinda added to the charm of the place. I hope to return to the same suite next summer. I would highly recommend this suite to anyone wanting to see the island of Kawaii and experience the many close-by attractions it has to offer.

We enjoyed our stay at the charming cottage. It was very quiet and peaceful. We could hear the ocean's surf and watch the sunrise over the ocean. The property was very clean and well maintained. This was our second stay and we have recommended it to friends and relatives. The owner is very friendly and helpful. We like the location as it is central to the island.
Owner response:Thank you for the review. It is always a pleasure having you stay with us. I look forward to seeing you again.

We expected to be closer to the beach/ocean and we expected to be able to walk to the beach/ocean but that was not possible. But, we had rented a car, so we were ok. The rental place was clean, well keep and we were happy with the place. Lots of extras were available, like chairs for the beach, unbrallas for the beach, coolers. We were very happy with the whole set up and the ower, Mary, was very nice.
Owner response:Hi MaryAnn, Thank you for the review. It was a pleasure having you here. The distance of approximate 0.5 miles to the beach as listed on my website was based on Google Earth. Today, I walked to the beach with a pedometer. According to the pedometer it is 0.75 miles each way (1.5 miles round trip). It took me 10 minutes to walk to the beach. I will be updating my listing to reflect this new information. As well, the picture on the website is a good representation of our distance from the beach. I hope you enjoyed the remainder of your vacation in Hawaii. Take care.

The property is a suite attached to the owner’s residence. It has a rural/residential setting. The owner has a dog and some cats. Be prepared to be serenaded by the wild roosters at five in the morning. Regarding the location, it may be half a mile to the ocean as the crow flies, but it is considerably further by road to the public beach or town center. If you walk you will be sharing the winding road with the car and truck traffic. The ocean is partially visible but good luck in seeing any whales; they would be well beyond any person’s normal eye site distance. The pleasant breezes are welcome most days because the suite heats up in the afternoon. There is no air conditioning. As well, there is no heat, and Kauai mornings can be chilly. The kitchen area is fairly well appointed, but note that there is no stove or dishwasher. The barbeque mentioned was not offered to us. When we arrived, we asked where we could sit outside. The owner pointed out a patio table and chairs, which was fine, except that the property is on a side hill. The only level area is the parking area. There is a wooden bench in the parking area, which we used most days. The lanai is too small to accommodate any seating. We were not invited to use the deck, in fact, it was gated.
Owner response:This unit has received 100% positive reviews since opening in December 2007. The many comments we've received all confirm that this a comfortable and relaxing home-like environment. Unfortunately, this particular guest made the decision to violate the terms of the rental agreement and smoke on property. The guest continued even after being asked not to smoke on premises. As outlined in the rental agreement, his deposit was no longer refundable due to a violation of the agreement. In an attempted to intimidate me into refunding his deposit, he threatened to report me to VRBO. This review appears to be written in an attempt to retaliate. I do have a dog and cats. They are all house pets except one cat that stops by to eat. My dog spends her days inside with me and outside on the gated lanai which is attached to my home. This allows my dog to go outside without disturbing guests. She does not bark. The path to the beach is along a paved street. It is 0.75 miles to walk to the beach. The ocean is 0.5 miles as a crow flies. You can clearly see whales breach from the property. There are wild roosters all over the island. They are considered part of the island's charm. The only way to avoid them is to stay in a hotel on the upper floors. Since this is a temperate region, heaters are not standard in any homes. Air conditioning is also rare. The unit has two ceiling fans and a whole house fan. We have tradewinds on most days which keeps it cool. There are several blankets, including a down blanket, available for guest use. Average Kauai temperatures in February are 65-78 degrees F. The BBQ is next to the parking area and is available for use 24/7. This is a guest suite and is prohibited by law to have a range or stove. A two-burner hot plate, electric skillet and rice cooker are provided. The unit is not advertised as having a stove or dishwasher.

Thank you Mary for a wonderful stay in your guest suite. The suite was exactly as advertised, the location was convenient, the neighborhood was peaceful, and your hospitality was generous. For a solo female traveler this suite perfect and had plenty of room for one. Also, for runners, the suite is just a quick run down hill to the lovely running/walking/bicycle path on the beach. This was a great place to get away from the stress of work, and I hope to return soon. Mahalo!

Mary, Thank you for providing a fantastic, clean, well-appointed vacation suite. We are sad to be leaving the island after a great week here. After our days spent hiking and swimming it was a real joy to come back to this comfortable home away from home to make dinner and watch one of the numerous DVDs!

We spent 4 nights there, and I wish we could have stayed longer. The house is very clean, in a great spot, and our hosts were nice and helpful. If you ever go to Kaua'i, this is the place to stay. And don't miss the Na Pali Coast, the canyon, and the Kalaluau Trail.

This is a wonderful apartment - great location, beautifully decorated (much more so than a standard rental apartment, everything was extremely clean and up to date. Mary was very helpful and made us feel welcome, while still allowing complete privacy. We would definitely stay here again the next time we come to Kauai and would whole heartedly recommend apartment to others.

This was the perfect for us to stay. We live in a one-bedroom condo similar to the "cottage." We had all we needed here: quiet atmosphere and private plus central location. Thank you for providing a great cottage with prices for the everyday person. The best compliment is we would love to return and stay at your "spot' again.

Myself and two girlfriends stayed in Mary's guest suite back in April. Yes, this review is long overdue! The suite was clean and had everything we needed. We found Kapaa and the house itself in a great central location to head in either direction on the island. It was in a nice, quite neighborhood with easy access to the main road. Mary was great to work with, friendly and professional. I would stay there again if I were to visit Kauai in the future with no hesitation.
