Can't really say enough good things about this place or the owners. Rosa Maria, her husband Alejandro, and their dog "Natcha" are SUPERB! Their apartment is situated directly behind their home and is only a few blocks from the center of the well-known artistic and intellectual enclave of Coyoacán. It's very roomy, clean, super affordable, and provides everything one may need when spending any extended period of time in Mexico City. Either you can spend your days in Coyoacán or nearby San Ángel taking in the great vibe of both, or you can quickly be at anyone (by taking a bus or taxi from Miguel Angel de Quevedo Street) of three to four Metro stops which will make it easy for accessing other parts of DF's sprawl. For those of you looking for a great stay with too many features to list, I highly recommend this place and know you will feel at home with these great people and their lovable dog Natcha!

Adequate, but not luxurious
Adequate, but not luxurious
First, the good stuff: The apartment is on a quaint and idyllic street, with bougainvillea and other tropical plants blooming everywhere. The neighborhood is like a picture book, with charming and vibrantly colored casas all with elegant courtyards. The neighborhood is quiet and safe, in contrast to what I've heard about other neighborhoods in DF. I even felt safe walking home alone at night, despite the fact that I am Gringo with a capital "G" and speak very little Spanish. The main house is every bit as charming as the rest of the neighborhood, and there is even an adorable and friendly dog to greet you every time you come home. The apartment, however, which is behind the main house, is merely adequate. A bare minimum of effort has been put into the decor, as if it was decorated from the castoffs of someone's college dorm room, or worse, the belonging's of a deceased grandparent. There are two levels, as stated, and the stairs leading up to the bedrooms are attractive in a mid-century modern way. The bedrooms are of sufficient size, but the mattresses are terrible. The queen size mattress is adequate, but of the cheapest variety imaginable, and likely ancient. But the single mattress is hard as a rock and barely sleepable. The shower is probably the worst aspect of the apartment. It is tiny and of a variety that I've encountered in Europe, that has no separation from the rest of the bathroom, so that water sprays everywhere. But even worse, the shower head provided little more than a trickle, which made it impossible to wash all of the soap off. My clever friend scrubbed it down, after which it worked just fine. It was probably just calcium deposits blocking the water. But my friend should not have had to do this; it is the owner's responsibility. Also, it is smack dab between two metro stops, and not within walking distance to either, which is pretty inconvenient for a tourist. The apartment has a lot of unrealized potential, and I'd recommend staying there if you're not terribly concerned about creature comforts and don't mind the quirks I mentioned above. I, however, would not stay there again, as I don't think it is worth the price listed.

Coyacan and Rosa Maria is the best thing you can do for yourself, if you plan on going to Mexico. Here is a very great feeling of a friendly home. You may think Mexico city is big noisy and polluted. But not here, it is a beautiful place, where lively and safe. The appartment is tasteful and nice beds. And remember to bring a big smile!!!

We stayed in this apartment in June. It was perfect for our 21 year old son, my husband and me. There are two bedrooms usstairs and a kitchen and a dining table / living area downstairs. It is very clean and is in a great location in Mexico City. Coyoacon has plenty to see - Frida Kahlo's house, good restaurants, an old catadral and is a safe place to walk around. It is easy to get around Mexico City by Metro or taxis. We loved our stay! Mexico City is amazing! There is a short taxi ride to a bus station (Taxquena) where you can catch inexpensive buses for day trips to historic sites. You could also plan a visit to another city. The bus system is great in Mexico.
