This was an amazing place for a family vacation of sun, fun and surf. I took my friend and her daughter with my 3 year old son and we couldn't have picked a better house and location. We walked every morning down to the corner to check out the surf, all of a 2 minute walk. My son had no problem walking the short distance to the beach over and over again throughout the day. The house was so well stocked with beach chairs, toys, boogie boards, bikes...the only thing we got in town was surfboards. Fantastic surfing right there at the main beach and small waves for my son to play in as well. We loved the open feeling to the house and it was just as pictured. Kirsten the owner was easy to work with and very helpful. We had the best vacation I've had in years and my son asks to go back to "Sa waii" almost daily, so we will be back. Same time next year if all goes well. I highly recommend the house.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.

We have been to Hanalei more than a few times and know how important the little things are to really putting the visit from good to great. This is a clean, well-maintained vacation rental in an excellent location. Everything as described was delivered and we encountered no surprises between web-photo and reality, however, it IS the little things that make a big difference. There were bikes, beach chairs and boogie boards. The kitchen was very well stocked with all the cooking, blending, serving items one could need, washer and dryer came in handy - and the barbecue grilled my fresh fish to perfection. Kirsten was also a pleasure as a very accommodating and knowledgeable host. We felt right at home immediately and got down to the business of chilling out! Location = perfect! Walk to the beach - yet quiet and peaceful - bike to shave ice - 2 min! We will be staying here again - count on it!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This is a wonderful place to stay. Clean and comfortable with well appointed kitchen. Loved the extras such as boogie boards, coolers and snorkeling gear as well as the bikes that made getting into town so fun. We tried to take advantage of the location and walk to the beach for sunset often. We were also so close to kayaking and stand up paddle boarding. I also appreciate the quiet cul-de-sac, unlike other rentals we passed on a busy street. I can't wait to come back and stay here again!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.

We (5 adults and 1 toddler) stayed at the house for 9 days. The house is easy to find and it literary located 3 minutes from the beach and 7 minutes from "downtown" Hanelei. There are plenty of beach-ware stocked at the house (chairs, boogie boards, snorkels, etc) and anything else can be easily rented in town. There was also plenty of toddler-ware including strollers, high chair, and beds which make it very easy and convenient for us. The house layout worked very well for us. There was plenty of inside and outside space. The kitchen is large and accommodates many cooks. It has all the necessary pots and pans and knives and tools. In the beginning of our stay, we stopped at a grocery store and stocked up on food and snacks. We had couple questions during our stay and the owner was very responsive. Thank you!Recommended for: Families with young children, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Four of us stayed in the Aloha House this September. It is a very comfortable, well-equiped home with an excellent location, a 2 minute walk to Hanalei Bay and a 10 min walk to town. We especially appreciated the layout of the house - the bedrooms and bathrooms were private for 2 couples and the open living space and deck areas made it easy to convene as a group. Very clean, quiet and relaxing! Highly recommend.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.

Everything about it was right. A reasonable price, a clean and comfortable space, a stunning location, comfortable beds, strong shower, excellent kitchen, etc. Not to mention Hanalei Harry, the wonderful cat out in the yard. :) And by the way, the owners are a profound pleasure to deal with before, during and after the trip. Suffice to say: we will absolutely be back!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We stayed at the Mauka House from 5/30/2011 - 6/6/2011. The house is easy to find, closer to the beach than we thought (it is very close), and is very comfortable. The house is immaculate and very charming! The house is very well appointed and we found everything we needed plus some. Either the rooms are tiled or have wood laminate floors except the bedrooms, which are carpeted. We were concerned with mold because the property is located in Hanalei which can be very wet. We did not encounter any mold or mustiness in the property. The house and landscaping are well maintained! Also the décor of the house is extremely nice and Kirsten has actual art in the house which makes it feel like home. Kirsten provides extras like books, DVDs, bikes, boogie boards, sand toys, etc. We loved the outdoor HOT shower – it was very nice after spending a day at the beach. Then there was Harry the Cat, he is so cute and spoiled. Unfortunately, we are highly allergic but he did not bother us other than wanting attention. My son was so in love with him but he is allergic too. I would highly recommend this property and working with Kirsten is a delight! Thank you Kirsten for providing us such a beautiful and comfortable place to stay during our stay in Kauai! -Kelly and FamilyRecommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My husband, kids and I LOVED Hanalei Bay where I had visited with my parents years ago. SO thrilled to see that it remains a great, safe, clean beach with none of the crowds of many Hawaiian spots. The home was perfect.Very comfortable, spacious, clean, and well stocked with everything we could have needed. Only a quick walk to the beach, close to the lifeguard station, where they are vigilant about keeping the water safe. We would love to return to this place with family and friends next year. Thanks so much!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

What a perfect location for a relaxing vacation...Having visited most of the islands, we absolutely fell in love with Hanalei, Kauai for the true Hawaiian charm and island lifestyle. Our experience at Aloha House was perfect in every way...First and foremost, the one minute walk to Hanalei Bay made this the ideal location and the home itself was charming, clean and true hawaiian-style. Our group included 2 families and the layout was very accommodating - the upstairs loft perfect for the teenagers! The kitchen was well-equiped with newer appliances and everything we needed. We enjoyed the large wrap-around deck with BBQ and beautiful tropical gardens surrounding us...(and the grapefruit tree provided the sweetest fruit, perfect for breakfast and afternoon grapefruit martinis). Also appreciated were the beach necessities - towels, boogie boards, paddle ball, cooler, bikes and toys galore...Finally, the safe and welcoming neighborhood made our visit so relaxing - we loved getting to know the neighbors - genuinely kind and wonderful people..(also loved Harry the cat). We hope to be back to this perfect piece of Hawaiian Paradise very soon. Mahalo!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

This was our first stay at Aloha House. We were there right after Thanksgiving 2010 for ten days. Aloha house is in the most perfect spot. We loved, loved, loved the house. We had rain the first few days and the waterfalls were so beautiful to wake up to. It was a very well equipped house and Kirsten was was very helpful. It was such a relaxing vacation. The neighborhood was very quiet. One of the neighbors gave us a bread fruit which we tried with dinner one night and the grapefruit from the yard was really good. The flowers in the yard were beautiful. We will definitely go back again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We stayed at the Mauka house in late May 2010, and it was completely wonderful. The house is well-appointed, clean, and has everything you need for a wonderful stay in Hanalei. We walked to the beach and town with our three-year old daughter often. There are gorgeous views of the mountains and waterfalls from the back bedroom huge windows. The owner is very helpful and prompt in communicating. We loved Hanalei Bay for swimming (walking), and went often to Tunnels Beach (car drive) for snorkeling- saw monk seal, turtles, and tons of fish! It was the perfect place to stay for our family.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.

The Mauka house is the most perfect place to stay in Hanalei Bay. A block away from the beautiful beach and a five minute walk to the quaint town. No need for a car. The house is peaceful and spacious with good views of the mountains and waterfalls. It has everything you need. A well equipped kitchen, comfortable bedrooms and a relaxing living room and patio. A lovely house in a delightful town. Our second stay at the Aloha House (2 couples) and we'll be back as often as we can. Perfect location (a stroll into town, a block to Pavilion beach) and acommodations that are spacious, comfortable, and decorated with graceful island flair. A big plus is the outdoor upstairs deck with lounge furniture, table and chairs, and barbeque, a haven in the treetops with the gentle surf in the background after a day on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Bicycles, boogie boards, beach chairs -- just bring your flip flops and a bathing suit and you'll be in paradise.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Hop and a skip to the magical beach, this was a comfortable and gracious home away from home. Everything we needed - from kitchen equipment to quality bikes and boogie boards - was provided. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen/living room a center of activity - the deck and garden a bonus. The sleeping loft came in very handy when our son and daughter's visit overlapped. We stayed for two weeks and hope to do so again and again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

WOW! We loved Hanalei, and the Aloha House was absolutely perfect for our family of 5. I won't repeat what the other guests have said...it is all true and accurate. Going to a resort is nice, but we have discovered the "Country Hawaii" as my husband likes to describe our experience. We loaded up on essentials at Costco in Lihui, rented the truck, threw the surfboards in the back, and never looked back until we regretfully had to pack bags and go home. If we were not so addicted to snow skiing, we'd be Hanalei Surf/Farmer/Gardner Wanabies!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We stayed in the Aloha unit for a week. The listing is very representative of the home. In addition to the inside amenities there is a large deck with newer deck furniture and a new grill. The appliances were newer and in good order including a washer and dryer. It's hard to say how valuable it is to be able to walk 5 minutes to one of the best beaches on the island. We had a car and visited many others but the one we liked the most was a block away. The town of Hanelei was exactly what we were looking for, and again, only 4-5 block walk. In general, we had a great time and look forward to visiting again soon.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We were absolutely blown away by Hanalei and the accommodations. The house was perfect, with a loft and two big bedrooms, just a short, quiet block to the bay, and a few more steps the other way to town. The view of the jagged mountains and the waterfall (many waterfalls, on rainy days) greets you in the morning from the bedroom windows. Nice open-air layout, with high, beam ceilings and a big deck with a gas barbecue. Tropical landscaping, big lawn for kids, fully equipped kitchen. There was nothing more we could have asked for -- right down to the boogie boards in the garage. We'll be back!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

My family and I spent a week in the Aloha House in February 2009. I'm not quite sure what to say besides that it was perfect. We arrived at night, so waking up to the lush mountains and waterfalls everywhere in the morning was a great surprise. The house is very comfortable and well-equipped and is conveniently located next to the beach and a few blocks from town. The beds and linens are very comfortable and the kitchen has every utensil you could possibly need, including pots and pans. We loved the house and the location and we plan on coming back next year. My husband and I spent three weeks at Aloha House in October of 2008 and had a lovely time. Kirsten, the owner, is an attentive hostess who responded very promptly to the few requests and questions we had while setting up and moving in. The place is unusually well equipped for a vacation rental in terms of supplies like spices, laundry and dishwash detergent, garbage bags and the like and that was a really nice feature that one cannot take for granted in a rental, we've found. The jungle and mountain views out many of the windows was beautiful and it was very quiet with only the birds to awaken you in the early morning. Location could hardly have been better -- a two minute walk from the Hanalei Beach Pavillon so it was easy to pop down and check if the surf was up or down. Also an easy 5 block walk into the charming little town of Hanalei for restaurants and shopping. Comfortable beds and bedding, large, pleasant terrace with barbecue. Plenty of good quality towells. Also lots of toys and beach equipment for your use. Nice place in a very beautiful and laid back part of the world.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

A very special place. WE LOVED IT! The beaches, the town, the weather, the mountain views and sunsets over the bay. The house was just right, the open area was perfect to entertain family and friends and the kitchen had everything we needed and more. Lots of spare toys (masks, snorkels,...)and the owners were great, full of answers, advice and good conversation. The beaches were perfect for exploring, snorkeling, relaxing and the towns and markets were super. We will definitely returnDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0
