Location: St. Regis, Clark Fork Valley, Glacier Country, Montana, USA (60 min. to Missoula, 90 to Coeur D'Alene, 120 to Spokane)
Accommodations: Cabin, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths (Sleeps 6)
Keywords: Log home/cabin
Sloway Cabin, a newer, beautiful log home, sits on five acres of meadow and woods that are visited nightly by deer and sometimes by bear, moose and elk. The Clark Fork River is just across the dead-end gravel road.
One hour from Missoula and two from Spokane, the Cabin has very convenient access yet feels like another world--secluded and private. Inside the warmth of the log walls and the high vaulted ceiling create an immediate sense of peace and comfort. At nearly 1,300 sq. ft. the Cabin feels just right-- small enough to be cozy but big enough for everyone. It's the perfect spot for celebrating a birthday, quiet anniversary, or hosting a small family gathering.
Long summer days are for swimming, floating, and fishing the Clark Fork, St. Regis, and Flathead Rivers. To the west, wonderful hiking trails lead to high alpine lakes along Montana/Idaho border. Mountain biking the Hiawatha Trail--over historic (and high!) railroad trestles and through cool dark tunnels--is another favorite. Trestle Creek Golf Course is just 3 miles down the road in St. Regis, where you'll also find two great antique shops.
Should you be able to come in the fall... lucky you! Crisp air, starry nights, and perhaps an evening bonfire. This is the season for more hiking and mountain biking, hunting, antique shopping, and enjoying Quinns Hot Springs.
Once the snow flies there's great skiing and snowboarding at Lookout Pass, just 30 minutes from the Cabin. Lookout has tripled in size over the past few years and boasts some of the Northwest's earliest and best snow. Silver Mountain is another 20 miles down the road. Not a downhiller? The surrounding National Forest has many hundred miles of trails for snowmobiling and cross country skiing. Or simply enjoy a cozy time playing board games, reading, and connecting with friends and family.
After a fun-filled day you'll love hanging out on the Cabin's wrap-around porch. Log rockers invite you to savor the lingering warmth of the sun as you enjoy a cool drink, recount the day's adventures with friends and family, and watch the sun set over the mountains across the river.
No matter what you enjoy at Sloway Cabin the time will pass too quickly. But you're sure to depart feeling relaxed, refreshed, and renewed.
Please note: the cabin is not suitable for young children--it's not child-proof and the loft railings and the stairway balusters are too widely spaced (see photo). Guest dogs will be considered with adherence to the Cabin's pet policy; the cost is $15 per night per animal.
Please have a look at the guest comments below, visit the Cabin on Facebook, and feel free to contact me for more information. Thanks!

Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2007
The cabin is such a treasure and quiet retreat. We love hanging out with friends, enjoying campfires, working on the place, and the great nearby hiking and skiing. It's been very gratifying to share the Cabin and see the enjoyment and delight it brings to others. It has become a special place to many folks, including a number of return guests.
Why the Owner Chose St. Regis
St. Regis and Sloway, in particular, are undiscovered parts of Western Montana, and the western gateway to Glacier National Park. I love the Cabin's amazing log construction and peaceful setting by the Clark Fork River. Yet it's only an hour's drive from my home in Missoula. Most of Mineral County land is public land with public access-- Forest Service, BLM, and Plum Creek. So there's great hiking, biking, hunting, and skiing close by.
The Unique Benefits of this Cabin
There's so much to do near Sloway, but most people love simply hanging out and relaxing at the cabin, enjoying the peace and quiet. People use the cabin to reconnect with family, disconnect from the work-world, and generally have a wonderful time. It's the perfect place for birthdays, anniversaries, and other special occasions.

WOW, where do I start?! This place was amazing, absolutely amazing. Better and more than I ever imagined or hoped for when I first stumbled upon its ad on VRBO. I knew I wanted a nice place to escape to in the gorgeous Rocky mountains but what I found was simply a piece of heaven. The owner was quick to respond to my inquiry and so very helpful. And she was a doll to work with. When I arrived I felt welcomed and quite comfortable with my surroundings because of all the great information she provided prior to. While there, I completely relaxed and enjoyed her awesome sound system and collection of music. My favorite, by far, was the CD by Daphne Denniston - Married to the Dashboard. I had never heard her before but hopped on the computer once I got home and bought her music. Very cool stuff! The neighbors/caretakers even came by once to check in on me with a hug & warm cookies in hand! I filled my days with drives while taking pictures along the way, long soaks in the tub with a great book, swings on the hammock and a big, beautiful campfire. I would highly recommend this property to others, already have, though they will be warned not to take "my time" because I will CERTAINLY be back....SOON! Thanks again, Kate, it was AWESOME!

Our family came to St. Regis to attend a family reunion which was being held at a local campground. Since we had to fly in from California, we weren't able to camp so we looked for a place to stay locally. I found Sloway cabin on VRBO and so very glad I did! We were about 3 miles from the campground, so it was very convenient to visit family during the day, and come back to the cabin to relax in the evening. We even stole away a few hours during the afternoon for some peaceful downtime at the cabin. The kids loved playing horseshoes outside and lying in the hammock. The fire pit was great for cooking smores in the evening, complete with a stoked wood pile! My husband and I cooked 50 shredded beef tacos, 30 chicken enchiladas, and a huge bowl of guacamole for the family reunion's Mexican dinner night in the kitchen of the cabin. Plenty of room and all the amenities that anyone would need! We booked a whited water rafting trip with the Pangaea company and loved every minute of it. A very easy raft trip, with class 2 and 3 rapids. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a little adventure! My husband fly fished in the Clark fork river and the kids fished off the bank. It was a little too warm to catch anything, but fun just the same! The cabin is beautiful, and so comfortable, making you feel right at home. We would definitely come back for a Montana vacation at Sloway cabin! Thank you, Kate, for such a wonderful place!

I love to travel, especially to Montana, and I put a lot of research into my trips - so for the most part I'm pretty pleased with my choices. But my favorite thing is seeing the reactions of the rest of the people in my party since they are not the travel-planners that I am, and therefore the itinerary always comes as somewhat of a surprise. This time I was traveling with my boyfriend and sister, all of us currently living in San Diego and plenty weary by the time we flew into Spokane and drove to St. Regis. But when we pulled up at the the Sloway Cabin, I patted myself on the back when their jaws actually dropped. :) The cabin is even better than the pictures and the five acres it sits on seems like more than that with the gravel road and river right across the way. The kitchen and charcoal grill were perfect for cooking and we made some amazing meals while dancing around the house to my sister's infamous "Montana Mix" on her iPod (yes, there's an iPod dock and a CD Player) all night. And in the quiet mornings we loved relaxing on the hammock and just listening the birds. The river across the way is a bit of a brambly walk (wear boots), and don't expect to swim there, but it adds to the privacy and setting. Also, we went white water rafting on the Clark Fork with Pangaea Rafting and it was the best white water experience ever. They are located in Tarkio, about a half hour's drive. Google it and reserve in advance! The town of St. Regis is small, but there are a couple of friendly bars, a small grocery/liquor store (which is where we did all our shopping and it was just fine), and a couple of shops. We explored it all, but mostly just loved coming back to the cabin, opening a bottle of wine and dancing around while the steaks were on the grill. I wish I was still there and I recommend the sloway cabin wholeheartedly.

From the moment we arrived at those magnificent doors with the etched glass of a flyfisherman and trout we knew we had come to somewhere very special. We were not disappointed. This is not a cabin it is a beautiful home full of lovely furniture and personal touches. There is a warm welcoming ambience from the moment you set foot inside.Outside the deck complete with hammock is a great place to relax, enjoy the solitude and admire the view towards the Clark Fork River which is a great place to fish. This is the perfect getaway. We had an unforgettable week in this superb place. Thank you Kate for letting two total strangers from Wales stay in your delightful home.

Our second visit to the Sloway Cabin... and even better than the first! The kids were happy floating the Clark Fork and playing countless games of Uno and the grownups were happy that the kids were happy. (The margaritas didn't hurt!) What a great get-away!!! Everything we needed and then some! :) Can't wait to get back...

We thoroughly enjoyed our "getaway" at the cabin. The facilities were great, comfortable, and friendly. We hiked and were able to see a lot of the surrounding area, some new to us. Thank you so much.

We loved spending time at this peaceful cabin. We rode bikes as a family, barbequed, roasted marshmallows, and relaxed. Our little boys had so much fun exploring in the yard, finding sticks and rocks, etc. The cabin was clean and cozy inside...very well kept. Overall it was a great place to have some R&R as a family!

WOW! Your home is absolutely beautiful and just what we needed for our little getaway. Your love for your cabin is evident in every detail and very welcoming. We knew from the moment we drove up that we had stumbled upon something great! It was too early in the year to head up any of the mountain lake trails, but we had fun exploring the river trail and local antique shops, and ended the day with a fabulous dinner at Quinns Hot Springs. Thank you for opening up your lovely home to strangers.
