La Casa de Doña Ana is an old 2-story colonial house built around a central patio, and most of the rooms enter from the patio. The lower patio also hosts Guanajuato's most unusual corner fountain , and the entrance to the small underground grotto.

The house features 3 guest rooms, decorated with Mexican hand-crafts and antiques. The guest rooms are named for their decorative artefacts: La Revolución, El Charro and El Mariachi.

The living and dining rooms are decorated with a variety of hand-crafts and antiques collected by the hosts over many years in Guatemala and Mexico, Guatemala and Peru. The kitchen and bathrooms of La Casa de Doña Ana have also been completely remodeled with talavera ceramics of Dolores Hidalgo and cabinet carvings from Apaseo El Alto - fine examples of Mexican ingenuity in hand-crafts.

La Casa de Doña Ana is located on the Callejón Calixto, the route to the "Pípila" monument. Just steps away are the "Plazuela de Los Angeles" (Plaza of Angels), the "Callejón del Beso" (the Alley of the Kiss, the most romantic place in town), and the "Plaza de San Fernando."

La Casa de Doña Ana provides you the opportunity to really experience romantic Old Mexico in the colonial gem city of Guanajuato.

    • Like others who have written, I wanted to stay in one of the guest rooms in town, but all three were booked. As were two of the apartments, but El Juguete was available and I took it. The taxi driver had no difficulty finding it (from the central bus station) due to Mike's excellent directions written in both English and Spanish. It seemed a little bit out of town, but the next morning I walked on in and arrived at El Jardin Union in about 20-25 minutes. There is great bus service around the corner, but the crisp, clean morning air was perfect for walking. Over the 10 days that I was there (normally they book by the week but the next week hadn't been reserved yet so Mike said to go ahead and stay 3 more days), I usually walked to town and back passing the same folks and we got into a sort of nod and wave and "buenos dias/tardes" routine. The bus back can be found in front of the Plaza San Fernando on Av. Juarez (watch for direction: San Javier). The apt. itself was just great. Free internet service, and free wi-fi if you brought your own computer, large refrigerator, stove, dishes, etc. And on the roof of the three apartments (stacked one on top of the other) is an open-air covered deck with a washing machine and dryer and they even provide the detergent! I did some shopping in the large, new commercial supermarket but it is possible to buy your fruit and vegetables in small markets along the street as you walk back home. I enjoyed my stay and would not hesitate to stay in one of the three apartments again.

    • I stayed at the Alhondiga house for a week with two friends, and we loved it. The house is beautiful, had everything we needed, and is only a few minutes from the center. Walking back up is definitely exercise, but shouldn't be a problem for most people- the friendly neighbors and the view at the top (especially from the roof!) make the walk easier. All around great experience.

    • My husband daughter and I stayed in the guest suites for a week. Their charm added greatly to our stay and, trust me, we did not want to leave. I would stay here again. Susan

    • We stayed in Alhondiga House for two weeks. It is great. Well furnished, clean and very comfortable. The internet access kept us in touch with the outside. The washing machine allowed us to lighten our packing. Some might find the long hike up and down the winding narrow alley a problem. We found it good exercise. The city is delightful. With colorful houses built against one another up and down the many hills, it appears as an old European city. Great food and museums. Mike and Ana are great hosts. We will definitely return.

    • My wife and I spent a confortable, enjoyable week in the two-bedroom Alondiga casa. Clean and bright, well-equipped and furnished, friendly neighbors and easy walk past the main market and lots of food venders to el centro. Nice to water filtration system, computer with internet and washer/drier. The owners care about their guests and that makes all the difference.

    • I had the time of my life in Guanajuato! One big reason for our success was the great home base we found. Mike Anderson has Alhondiga House fitted out perfectly. Beautiful, clean, and close to everything. Supplies for cooking are close. Or eat out. Local attractions are nearby. We even got to Teotihuacan. Best of all, Mike is an insider with expert experience, and a very nice guy. Feel free to email me or call with questions.

    • We stayed at La Casa de Dona Ana B & B from July 21-24, 2008. We had a fantastic experience. Mike and Ana were wonderful hosts. Their breakfasts were plentiful, varied and delicious. The room that we stayed in was comfortable and beautifully decorated. Amenities included a ceiling fan, tile throughout, a pitcher of purified water every day, use of the common living room and internet access as well as the use of a spectacular top terrace with a wonderful view of Guanajuato. These were amenities that we missed on our next bed and breakfast in San Miguel de Allende. We were probably spoiled by Mike and Ana. Their house is close to everything in the central area. There are banks, shops and restaurants in the immediate area. The huge Hidalgo market was within walking distance as well as the Diego Rivera museum and the Don Quijote Museum. We took a cab to the Mommy museum for about 30 pesos (3 USD) but were able to walk back to town comfortably just as Dona Ana had recommended. It was a fun walk. Although we did not need much help while in town, I do know Ana and Mike have accompanied prior guests to museums and such when they didn't feel comfortable venturing on their own. Overall, the experience was extremely positive. We hope to come back to Guanajuato and without doubt we hope to stay again at La Casa de Dona Ana!

    • I can't even begin to express how wonderful it is to stay with Ana and Mike in their lovely home in Guanajuato. First of all, the house is stunning. It's charming décor and comfortable rooms make it the kind of place that you'd want to come home to every day. Ana and Mike are really what make La Casa de Doña Ana stand out from the rest. They are knowledgeable, helpful, and extremely friendly. It was a pleasure to wake up each morning to chat with them at breakfast. I can't wait to get back to Guanajuato and Doña Ana's!

    • We were thrilled with La Casa de Dona Ana! Everything about it was wonderful...the beautiful home, our fantastic room, the location, the cleanliness (thank you Rosa!),the delicious breakfasts, and most especially the kindness and friendship of our hosts Ana and Mike. We were extremely comfortable there and felt like we were "at home". Far and above the best place we have ever stayed. Guanajauto is a fabulous city and staying at La Casa de Dona Ana only made our visit that much more enjoyable. I really cannot recommend it enough! You would be lucky to stay here and expeience Ana and Mike's friendly hospitality. We loved it.
