"CEDAR SUNRISE" cottage is a quaint, clean, and very comfortable, 1400 square foot, waterfront cottage on Cedar Island, North Carolina. It truly has all of the comforts of home. There is a fully equipped kitchen, complete right down to the breadmaker (and most basic cooking staples). The great room is very open, airy and tranquil with it's shades of blue and white and ceramic tile floors throughout.
The sleeping porch is our favorite. It is fully air conditioned and heated but is also surrounded on three sides by windows/doors so it has a very outdoorsy feel. You can lie in bed and watch the dolphins or pelicans playing in the bay with the sea breezes on your face. The other two bedrooms are very comfy with boat models and hand stitched quilts. The cottage and area are very family friendly. We do ask, however, that you leave your cigarettes and pets outside.
Cedar Island is a small, quiet, fishing village. It is an island with beautiful views of the water, the Outer Banks, and the abundant wildlife, not to mention the sunrises! Cedar Island is an outdoor person's paradise with boating, fishing, swimming, horseback riding, Outer Banks exploring, and bird watching to name a few. In recent years it has become a popular kite boarding spot also. It is not a "touristy" location. It is very natural and unspoiled with three fourths of the island the National Wildlife Refuge.
There are horse stables and rentals on the island for beach trail rides. There is a National Wildlife Refuge on the island for bird watching. There are numerous neighboring Audobon controlled islands also for birdwatching. And just minutes away by boat are ocean inlets and the Cape Lookout National Seashore. There is a fishing and hunting guide service on the island, as well as, guided kayak trips and outer banks ferries. We even have a kayak and canoe at the cottage for our guests to use!
There is a great fish market to buy the day's catch for dinner or there is a great seafood restaurant where you can watch the ferries come and go. In the evenings relax on the deck or dock and watch the shrimp boats head out for the evening and return again in the morning.
For attractions off the island, you can take the Cedar Island - Ocracoke Ferry to Ocracoke and the Outer Banks. Or you can head off to the historic towns of Beaufort (about 45 miles) or New Bern (about 65 miles). There are also local ferries that will take you to the Core Banks, otherwise know as the "Southern Outer Banks". "CEDAR SUNRISE" is truly our family's paradise and home away from home.
Be sure to checkout our guestbook comments when you check the calendar availability! We have added these from our physical guestbook that we keep at "CEDAR SUNRISE" cottage. It gives you an idea of what our guests have enjoyed. (Many of our guests have told us that our photos don't do the cottage justice. That it was much larger, more open, and prettier than the photos portrayed.)
WE ALSO HAVE TWO WATERFRONT COTTAGES, "SANDY GARDEN" AND "SANDY POINT", IN HISTORIC NEW BERN AND ANOTHER WATER ACCESS COTTAGE, "BAMBOO COTTAGE", JUST OUTSIDE OF NEW BERN (see our owner's website)!!
