Spacious Year Round Waterfront Cabin with Dock - Sleeps 8

Year Purchased: 2001

Why the Owner Chose Rockwood

Our next door neighbors here in Connecticut introduced us to Maine about 15 years ago. The 1st couple of years we camped with them at Camp Seboomek. But they got tired of hauling all their equipment every trip so they started looking for a small place to buy. They found a cute little place on the Moose River and we continued to stay with them for several more years.

One day Charlie was looking for a boat to buy, and Mark from the marina told him he had a boat for sale and, oh by the way, he also had a piece of land he would throw in. Mark needed the cash, the time was right, the price was really right and so before you know it we owned the boat and 2 acres of land. Charlie sold the boat to pay for the foundation! and the rest is history!

The Unique Benefits at this Cabin

The cabin is our second home. We try to spend as much time as we can up there. It is far enough away from everything to feel like you can just unplug and unwind, yet there is a small store right across the river that you can walk to that will provide you with basic necessities. The best parts of it all are that you can get on your snowmobile and ride right from the cabin to the trails and you can use the dock on the property, so you can just hop in the boat and have immediate access to the lake. Of course there is always Mount Kineo to be hiked.

Owner's Map of Rockwood

My name is Lisa Sandberg and I am a nurse at a small community hospital in the emergency room. Charlie is my husband of 25 years. He is a retired police officer. He also happens to be very good at building things. He built the log cabin 8 years ago and just this past year he built us a new 3500 sq ft home in Connecticut. I am a very lucky lady to be married to such a talented man. Charlie has the gift of gab. No one remains a stranger for long around him.

    • We were lucky enough to stay in Loon's Nest the last week of Sept. and had an AWESOME experience! The cabin was/is way above all our expectations. The pellet stove added a new dimension which was very warm and comforting on the cool fall evenings. We saw various wildlife including many moose, which made my wife extremely happy. The cabin is remote enough so you have plenty of space yet close enough to all amenities at the same time. We look forward to visiting again in the very near future. Thanks Lisa & Charlie.

    • WOW! What an absolutely gorgeous home and property. We stayed for 1 week in September and were absolutely overwhelmed, and the owners were wonderful calling to ensure everything was satisfactory. Satisfactory is an understatement. I spent one entire day sitting on the deck reading, while the other 3 in the party went to look for moose. What a relaxing day I had! We're all ready to head back - when you want to get away from it all, THIS is where you need to be.

    • What a wonderful time we had at the cabin. This is more then a rental;it is a home! Even all the decor of a home included! Gorgeous view! This is the perfect spot for the outdoors person for all seasons...boating, fishing, snow mobile, hiking and atv trails, as well as skiing. All the comforts of home, but yet peaceful, private, and relaxing! Our 1 child(who has special needs) really enjoyed the porch swing overlooking the lake. The 2 younger ones enjoyed feeding the ducks and fishing from the dock on site. They also enjoyed the yard for some ball and frisbee. A well stocked kitchen of pots/pans,plus plenty of dishes, for all of our family meals was a treat. Even had a slow cooker. Also a gas grill and a fire pit for marshmellows or weiners. Would suggest those traveling, to stop in Greenville at the Stop n Save at Indian Hill on the main drag for needed groceries on the way. We found everything we needed/wanted in there and it was the best grocery store in the area. We had all of our meals at the home cause of our special needs child doesn't always do well eating out. Would recommend this home for anyone and everyone. There was only a couple of steps into house so we had no problem getting our dtr and her w/c in. Thanks Lisa and Charlie for the memories!

    • Lisa, I just wanted to thank you so much for the rental of your great cabin! We all had such an awesome time, it was so relaxing and peaceful! It was nice to just disconnect.. no cell phone service, no emails, work was forgotten.. it was great! I loved the photo album of pictures of your cabin being built.. I can relate to that! I am re-constructing a house in Portland, CT right now from the studs up so I understand all the work you went through building, you did an absolutely wonderful job building your cabin, it is beautiful, and all your details and decorations really make it feel so comfortable and homely to be in. Thank you for leaving the books and movies, we watched one of the movies when it rained one afternoon, that was so considerate of you to think to do that! We also spent Friday night playing Monopoly, I haven't played that since I was a kid! As I told Charlie when he called to make sure we got in ok, we saw two fox in the yard when we pulled up!! It was great! (I put a picture of one of them on this email we took as it was running away) We also saw about a dozen moose! I sent you the attached picture of the moose, look at it sticking its tongue out at me while I take the picture! We went out every day for a couple hours watching them. The general store across the river was absolutely wonderful, the owners were so friendly to talk to about the area and talk about convenience to your cabin! One night we ordered pizza for dinner and just paddled across the river in our canoe to pick it up! It was so neat!! Another night we ate a salmon we caught in the river! There was no brush to clean the grill with that we could find, so we bought one and it is in one of the drawers in the kitchen. (We washed it and left it there for you, in case you ever wonder where it came from!) We all decided that we are going to come up to Moosehead Lake once a year for a long weekend vacation we loved it so much! I understand why you built a house up there completely! It's absolutely georgious. When do the black flies start getting bad? They didn't seem too too bad, the mosquitos were the real killers, I still have a lot of bites all over! Thanks again, I am already looking so forward to returning to Moosehead Lake next year!! Caroline

    • What a great huge cottage! My family and me spent a few days there in the winter. The pellet stove was greatly appreciated and that region is a snowmobile heaven. There is plenty of space for 8-10 people. The owners are great.

      Homeowner Response:
Thank you for the comment! We want to stress that there is a limit of only 8 people. We insist on no more than 8 to allow our guests to fully enjoy what the cabin has to offer.

    • The Loon's Nest was beyond our expectations. The house is in a great location, on a great piece of property, right on the Moose River. We had a great time boating, hiking and fishing. The general store was a short walk over the Moose River. We saw Moose just up the road from the house. The Moosehead Lake region is great for relaxing and enjoying all the beautiful scenery.

    • We had a great vacation in the house at Moosehead Lake. The house was really nice and a great location. You could walk to the lake, general store and the private marina which let us store our boat and use their docks. I would highly recommend this place if you are trying to have relaxing vacation.
