This place is great! It was everything (and more) we hoped it would be. David was the perfect host, and the pictures don't do the beautiful setting justice. The bass fishing was excellent, and the lake is literally at your back door.....simply beautiful. And we SO enjoyed having the canoe at the cabin. If you're looking for a peaceful, secluded cabin away from the noise of a big city, this is the place. And it's only 45 minutes from lots to do on the coast. Truly an awesome place. I highly recommend it!!

We keep coming back!
We keep coming back!
This will be our fourth visit to the Looney Bin when we come out again over Labor Day. The cottage and the lake are so nice in September ...you practically have the whole lake to yourselves...and the chill in the air at night is wonderful! It is such a comfortable, clean, private, cozy place to spend a quiet week fishing, canoeing, eating, drinking wine, reading, doing jigsaw puzzles and just watching the lake. I caught a bass as big as a dog the first day we were there last year. And there is also a resident Bald eagle who flies right over the house. We always take a ride to Camden to shop for Christmas gifts and stop at the Lobster Pound for lobster rolls but the remainder of the week is for relaxing and cooking great eats! We love to do our food shopping at Hussey's where they have the most delicious cheddar cheese cut from a giant wheel over at the meat counter. It's Cabots' aged cheddar so you will be getting the best there is. There is a more modern grocery store 5 minutes away where they have a fabulous selection of wine and beer too! The owner, David, is a great guy and very knowledgable about the area. He makes us feel welcome every year. The Looney Bin would make for a wonderful honeymoon too! Book a week and see what we mean...it's the best!

Good central location
Good central location
My wife and I are retired. We I came seeking a secluded location that was centrally located for discovering the coast and mountains during peak color festivals. We were very delighted with the property, the facilities, and the location. The bedroom has a wonderful view of the woods. We lingered in bed each morning, drinking our coffee and watching the treetops. The bathroom is modern and well equiped, as is the kitchen. We opened the windows at night, tucked under the covers, listened to the night, and slept like babies. We sat by the firepit many nights and grilled on the patio inspite of the cold. We enjoyed autumn colors, the pumpkin chunking festival is Damariscotta, old town area in Wiscasset, whale watching in Boothbay, and all the lighthouses. Anything you need for cooking can be found in Augusta, a six mile scenic drive to the west.
