Week in Amsterdam

The apartment was very spacious, clean and comfortable. Six of us shared the space for a week and appreciated that the location was so convenient for a short walk to practically anywhere in the city. However, there were some draw backs, which included the scaffolding around the entire building. We were informed about it only a week in advance and were misled about the details. The owner told us that they were "painting" the building and refunded us some $ from the beginning. Unfortunately, the "painting" turned out to be replacing the flashing around all of the MANY beautiful windows. Imagine waking up to the sounds of roto hammers vibrating the apartment starting at 7am. After complaining to the owner he refunded us more money and allowed us to check out at any time on the last day. Additionally, the jets in the tub are not operational. If you are looking to get a good night"s sleep and are uninterested in the nightlife, you might find it a bit noisy at night. On one side are the street cars and the other side are several pubs with people being loud until 4 in the morning.

I've now stayed twice at this apartment - once for a bachelor (stag) party and once for a weekend during a work trip to Europe (this trip - late Jan 2011). The location is really hard to beat - 10 min to Leidseplein, 5 min to Rembrandtplein, and a very short walk to a tram stop. The apartment is quite comfortable, and it was very easy to pick up our keys. The owner is very helpful and easily reached (although we didn't have any problems). The only downside - the staircase is quite steep, so people with difficulty walking or with big bags (or who have enjoyed the Amsterdam nightlife too much) should take care on the stairs.
